  1. So we know you make betting decisions with your head and not heart -

Heart Says the Team will be fired up to send Phil off well and a tribute to Seth I think - Aune’s last game so he has to be locked in and he just might be - KD wants to put his mark on this last game as do quite a few others. Score from the heart NT 24 - Boise 21.

Head says Boise has too many horses - defense should stifle us I fear. Their offense is maybe a b+ where we are a c+. They lost their championship game like us and will want to make it right - plus the have 17 players from TX that hope to show out (not sure how many play). Regardless head says they get on us early 10 -0 1st qtr and we end at 34-17 😕

  2. This guy has real work ethic that is apparent - plus I heard him talking about the “chip on the shoulder” in the introductory meeting this morning and I heard it in at least one other older video, maybe two. His desire to prove his worth is great for NT 🤔. This year might be tough as he’s just hit the TX dirt and behind the 8 ball but it appears it won’t be due to lack of effort! Go Mean Green

  3. So guys it appears our new coach is on the road and securing commits and this is awesome I think we all agree - but I’m just thinking to myself I better cool my expectations on staff info till at least mid to late next week - or I’m thinking at least.
I do know he can use the phone while he’s in the car or on the plane and can talk to guys and I’m sure he already has done a ton of this but just think priority 1 is retaining key players and commits plus my money is on he’s adding some of his own - there are over a dozen from Washington State in the portal 😀 as an example. Wide Card being Cam as he seems like he’s bumming he’s there now - some debate on whether he has to sit a year or not - if not we got a good shot - he’d love our receivers (praying Shorter does not go P5)

Just a few thoughts - do you mostly agree or think I’m off base?

Full disclosure, I was on the Gary Patterson and Justin Fuente train during the search and though Fuente was a done deal so I was surprised to see Eric Morris selected.

However, the AD dropped some search criteria in their written announcement and I don't disagree with what they were looking for and what they see in him:

"Among a deep and talented pool of candidates Eric distinguished himself with his great energy and strong track record as a championship head coach and a proven developer of talent. As a Texas native, he has deep relationships across the state, and he understands the importance of connecting with campus and the local community."

After looking at Morris' resume, here are a few things that I'm excited about:

    1. He shouldn't have a problem recruiting solid QBs to UNT
      • He recruited Mahomes and was his OC for three years at TT. That's substantial clout to use for recruiting.
      • He recruited Ward at Incarnate Word, and then Ward transferred to Washington State and was a successful P5 QB as a Sophomore. Let that one sink in. If he can identify, recruit, and develop talent at the FCS level that translates to the P5 level, I'm confident our QB troubles are going to be quickly corrected.
    2. In his one season with Washington State, he engineered an offense that ranked first in the Pac 12 and 10th nationally in redzone efficiency, scoring 91.5 percent of its trips inside the 20.
      • This is impressive.
    3. Like someone else said, he has a similar resume as Garrett Riley, but has won titles as a head coach at the FCS level which makes him more seasoned in my opinion.

Overall, it's not the hire I expected, but I'm excited to see what he can do and have a better understanding of what Mosely & Co. selected him. The biggest key in my opinion is who he brings in to be Defensive Coordinator and who they bring in for defensive staff. I have a feeling he'll hire a great offensive staff given his background, so I think his defensive choices could be the thing that makes or breaks his success here.

    Go Mean Green.

Great Details here - Thanks for the good info - I agree 100% - get a good Defensive Staff and we are on the right path !

Adding to this Tweet- from the Scoop

Sam Houston: Head coach KC Keeler, a candidate for jobs at Texas State and North Texas, will sign an extension to remain with the Bearkats, tweets Mike Craven of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. Keeler is 85-27 at the school since 2014; SHSU is set to join Conference USA in 2023.

Why would Graham Harrell leave a P5 job that pays more than us?

Good question but I think he might be enticed at the opportunity and or getting back to TX and or I’m not ruling out we’d not match his wages - I think the “price of poker has went up in N Texas” - don’t be surprised if the new HC is making 2mil

Now there is always a chance we bring Graham in as the HC as long as he can secure a major DC coach too - Good Question and I’m just adding to the discussion as this rattles on down the road. Lots of left Graham off the list in the last week and I think he’s still in the running myself. JMO

  7. Like the story line here and or has good cred to me but wonder if TCU won’t counter offer him like they will Riley if he’s offered - like it but don’t see it happening but I’d like to be wrong ha.

Consider this alternate/ Justin F gets Graham H as his OC with the thought he’s here 3yrs and gets a P5 gig again and Graham takes it over ? Not too far fetched. You would have to think Justin is on the phone calling guys and or Wren would say Graham did a great job here and would be welcomed again !
Just a little Tuesday morning rambling probably but it’s possible.

Just throwing this out. Dickey was Fuente’s assistant head coach and oc at Memphis.

Let’s Run wit( this combo as it worked very well - we do have a bit of an issue with Rick running the NIL (part of our college landscape) and the fact he and Dickey were not on good terms for awhile- but maybe that’s all in the past ?  Like the Idea JayD
