From Final 4 to complete destruction of the entire program in two years. Just sad.

You act like this is a new phenomenon.  The wealthy have always ruled this world and they always will.

Hey Denton Stang, we’re  you at the game ?

Not sure about him but I was and the AAC refs are absolutely atrocious.  They were basically trying to punish us for leaving this crappy conference.  Good riddance, as we now move to conference with decent referees.

I am sorry, it seems smut fans are on here continuously while I know of none of our fans that go on the my little pony boards.

I have not been on here since we left the AAC.  I only came this time to vote in the poll which included SMU as an option.  Get over yourself.

From what I read Luck, who is who the PAC 12 should if hired in the 1st place as commissioner, is exploring options for the remaining 4 programs. His first hurdle in saving the conference is to put together some type of TV contract that pays as much as the American Athletic Conference , somewhere if the $10 million plus range. Without one the PAC 12 conference is dead . If he can get one, which is a big if, then they can add 4 AAC programs now and a few MWC schools later. If not, then the PAC 4 can decide to go independent or join the AAC . The only 2 schools who might chose the independent rout are Stanford and Cal, and Cal has major financial problems in their athletic department. If appears the the MWC is a no go because of the length of their media contract and the fact it only pays $4 million a year,. On the other hand the AAC has an option in their media contract that they can renegotiate if they bring in new members that increases the conference's value. Isn't this fun.

Good info!  One thing you are missing is there was some type pf accounting error from Comcast that overpaid Pac 12 by the tune of 50 million dollars and they will have to pay it unless they just shut the whole thing down.

You all have no idea how much Cowlishaw has crapped on SMU over the years. We joked that someone must have held him at gun point and made him write this article.

Absolutely correct.  If you haven't figured out by now these UNT fans aren't the brightest.

Tim absolutely hated Sonny Dykes (I know for a fact as we went to church with them) and the feeling was mutual.  Here is just one example:

SMU was punching the air after seeing Utah, TCU, Rutgers, Louisville, BYU,Cincy, UCF and especially dear old UofH get elevated to a P5 conference.

You have no fans. You have no recent football or basketball success. You even tried to rebrand yourselves as "Dallas" even though The University of Dallas exists.

SMU even divorced the Methodist church for a chance at the P5.

When ALL of this failed, You guys resorted to buying your way into a P5 conference. The jury is out on if this will work, but I predict SMU may try going independent in football if this falls through.

You know, I have held my tongue on some of your catty comments but I am tired of your crap.

Cougar High couldn't hold SMU's jock back in the 70's and 80's and the only reason you guys have had any success as of late is your mafia benefactor who needs a tax write off ie a place to launder his money.

You could only wish to have had the historic success that SMU has had.  Any by the way, you should not be boasting about attendance either.

Also, why are you here?  We share a conference with UNT, albeit for a cup of coffee but still we have reason to be engaging with them at this time.  I don't see Houston on the schedule for UNT.

Even the Dan Wetzel tweet points to an article with no mention of SMU. When SMU does pop up in these articles, it either goes back to the original speculation months ago, or it's in reference to Fresno and Boise not even being under consideration. I haven't read anything lately that produces even half as much smoke as the SDSU discussions/letter

There have been some unforeseen delays but these are just minor setbacks. SMU is still the most highly coveted addition.due to our budget, facilities and academics.  NIL has been an absolute blessing.  The Pac12 knows the value SMU brings to the table.  And whether you want to acknowledge it or not,  SMU’s academic prestige is a huge draw for every conference in the country.  I would be very surprised if we don’t hear something official by 4th of July.

For a G5 do you donate to new facilities or the NIL? As a donor where can you get the most bang for your buck? Except for the weight room and rehab area I think the facilities are fine.

I will say that your facilities were the primary reason we allowed you into the AAC.   You had to build them on the backs of poor students but they are impressive nonetheless.

Don't know, but Tuesday was never expected to be an announcement.  There were conference meetings today, it was assumed there would be leaks. If successful announcement Thursday. Or, if not, next slate of conference meetings are in 2 weeks. And so on.

I had been hearing Tues as well, but had not shared it here or anywhere else.   I think that the PAC12 is wanting major revenue concessions from potential new additions which is possibly slowing down the process a bit.  I still think it could happen but not as quickly as originally thought.

Well they are our conference mates (equals) now.

We are in the AAC at this particular time but  it is somewhat temporary.   Most of the SMU people I know seem to think we won't be for long and they expect we will be invited to the PAC 10 or Big 12 in fairly short order.  Not anything against the AAC, as it is a good conference for programs like North Texas who are trying to build up their programs and fan support.

  11. A new era in American Athletic Conference football dawns on July 1 when the league experiences a major turnover in members.

The decision last summer by three of the AAC’s major football programs — Cincinnati, Houston and Central Florida — to depart for membership in the Big 12 Conference had league officials searching for replacements that could continue its gridiron success. Those three programs have won seven of the 10 AAC football titles since the league was established in 2013.

AAC officials moved quickly to fill those voids, announcing last June that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, Alabama-Birmingham and Texas-San Antonio would come aboard for the 2023-24 academic year. The move brings the football-playing members of the conference to 14 and puts the AAC into some of the biggest media markets in the nation.

And for football, it also adds some up-and-coming coaches, players and programs to the league’s strong group of holdovers: East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, Southern Methodist, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and South Florida.
