Thank you for emphasizing my point.
1. not having enough experience.2. not being able to get the type of players needed.
If you don’t have the experience to do something else or run what you know without a specific type of player, then maybe, just maybe, you weren’t the one for the job. I don’t have a problem with a position coach being given an opportunity to move up but experience required to adjust should be expected. Maybe he will get the type of player needed but rolling the dice on a one trick pony hasn’t worked so far.
Agreed I understand giving FBS position coaches the opportunity to advance, but lets earn some stripes as a DC at the FCS level maybe make a few friends along the way (get an up on the portal entries) But we give Caponi the bus keys and he loads it with anyone willing to leave Ames for Denton as defensive staffers All experienced with a defensive scheme we again don't have the personnel for Then hire a UH assistant that's never ran a room to coach our front So even if we axed or demoted our DC the remaining crew will be no different

Couldn't have been any worse than what we have now.
Justin Deason snagged a high school gig after Morris left for P5. Deason was the DC for TAMUC national championship team with Carthel. Deason would have been a great DC (with a proven resume) instead of giving these Iowa St position guys a shot.

The defense is crap— and major adjustments need to be made or the DC needs to go. If he is to survive there must be major change in personnel from juco and the portal.
Its not the DC fault, he knows the 3-3-5. He's coached a position group for this defense, he doesn't have the experience to run any other. The 3-3-5 will work but you must have the right personnel and safeties and linebackers that can tackle in the open field. We have neither. And although we have excellent facilities good juco and portal entrants have better opportunities.

Getting nervous about losing to SFA in the home opener next year.
Definitely. A few months ago we wanted a splash, didn't want a hayseed FCS coach like Carthel. I'm not gonna guarantee these last two as wins but nobody would have left feeling embarassed, especially from a defensive standpoint.

One of our wishlist guys for HC was Garret Riley (now Clemson OC), he didn't look too impressive against Duke

It’s all in the title. This is going to be a very very bad era for North Texas football.
I am all for the firing of SL. But we have taken big steps back with this HC and his Coordinators. We look so unprepared against a mediocre P5 team.Come On fellas, you hire a DC thats never been a DC, a linebackers coach thats spent the last 5 years as an assistant player rep then you sprinkle in a defensive line guy thats never ran his own room and expect to not get 60 hung on you? Then your receipt keeper can maybe get us in a few high school kids (2 yr works in progress) when you need coaches and folks with connections with other coaches that can give you a heads up with portal kids. Which is the single most important connection to have, in the new football environment

Well hold on now, I like Jennings and he is an alum (which I like) but weren’t we awful at his position his last stint here under Reff and Bowen?
Dang it! I was trying to be overly positive since the last couple of hires wrecked my defense. But you sniffed me out, yes Jennings is an alum and he's bounced around a few places (his industry has deemed him not a go getter) maybe why he's available. I'm excited once more, mainly because you boys tell me to give this a chance. 🙂

Now we are talking! Jennings is a home run hire. Maybe he can help our DC

Thought he had been a grad assistant at both SMU and Arkansas as well as TXHSFB?
He’s been a grad assistant since July 21 and 11 mos as a high school coach but technically you are correct though

Didn’t have a bio on the Houston coaches page so I can’t verify that. Hopefully he’s an ok coach

Correct— bring in talent doesn’t mean you can coach it— I hope That we see some veterans among the remaining hires. Need a little gray hair on the staff as well (which we have in the TE and STC)- defensive side of the ball. Salty Dline coach is what I’m thinking.
Well now I’m hearing the dline coach is a first year grad assistant from Houston that played at smut. So we are falling fast on the defensive side. Holy cow

Why can't he visit ?
He’s not an on field coach

A concern that I have is Gilbert, he brings the smoke with our recruiting but can he be everywhere? Owens is a huge resource but he can’t visit coaches, families or kids. He can sit things up where our foreigners can visit. I know I’m blowing it up a lot, but to think theirs not going to be eyes on coach o just waiting to slap recruiting violations upon us (Smut). So to me the support staff lb coach is another product that finds talent but has NEVER been in a high school or living room. I pray I’m wrong but we were blazing until the defense came onboard

I like the DC hire. I'm not sure what to think about the LBs coach. He doesn't have a lot of experience coaching on the field. Hopefully the DL coach is a very experienced hire.
Iowa st runs a 3-5-3 so our assistant personnel director is coaching a good amount of defensive players that’s my reasoning for being so skeptical

Announcing Jordan Davis as the OC is extremely underwhelming. Our DC doesn't appear to have deep connections if we are hiring grad assistants to coaching positions off rip.
We were blazing until we threw water on the fire. We stepped back on in state recruiting

Nah I just wish we hired more experienced position coaches especially with a new HC, OC, DC in first time roles. Its a D1 coaching job we should of had more quality to pick from than an ex TE with no Texas ties. Everyone gets a chance but you can definitely hold skepticism on a hire like this.
I guess we will offset the absence of defensive Texas recruiting on using money on staffing off field recruiting personnel that can’t visit off campus smh

Hearing the CB coach from Iowa st Caponi and another Iowa st support staffer as linebackers coach Kratch. Guess we will try to light the scoreboard up

Who is the DC? Anyone have an idear @TheReal_jayD
I’m hoping for Justin Deason. Aggressive style that gives the guys opportunities to make plays and a guy they will play for, or at least that’s what his M O has been.

Looks like he was the DC at new braunfels canyon. Went 10-2 this year, the HC there is the new HC at utrgv.
-
Would love to see Deason. He’s coaching at a San Antonio area high school. He has kids in school there. Played linebacker at ok state. He’s recruited Texas and I’d imagine can put together a staff that will crush recruiting and offenses. Oh yeah he’s won a natty too. He’d be my pick from the list

Looks like a big recruiting win for Coach Morris tonight!
Ok we are going to need bigger dudes! Coach is 5’8 in boots, so we need him waist high to these lineman. 😂

What makes these attractive to you?
You all may think I am crazy, but I would give Gush and interview and a strong look if he is interested.
Ok I'll throw a few names out there. Here's a couple of stretches (since we like the sound of hiring somebody we can't get) Van Malone CB coach at K state and Lance Guidry (Marshall) I would be thrilled to take either
Realistically
Justin Deason Morris' initial hire at IUW as DC.. Also the DC for Carthel's Natty team
Joe Cauthen DC experience with Houston, Buffalo (Leopold) and surprise surprise is now the DC for Colby Carthel
So if we cherry pick Carthel like La Tech did we can get Cauthen, Caid Faske (natty champion d line) and Marcus Trice

I would prefer an experienced OC that called played but if getting E Jones with the title OC, helps this university on the recruiting trail then do it and figure it out down the road
You have no idea what Morris contract is lol for you to assume Saban 2.0 would have signed for less 😂 let alone if Saban 2.0 ever got a look… we can say SABAN 2.0 would have taken less but that’s because he never got a serious look it looks like right now
Oh my mrs FU, I figured you would fade away since the hubs is still unemployed. We all would like to know EM contract particulars and then really begin to criticize

Traylor will finally have the support and facilities to "sell the ice cream to the eskimos". Congrats to him, maybe we should keep an eye out for his position staff or the unemployed TAMU coaches for our DC
