I agree.  But nobody, at this point, knows Greyson Thompson better than SL.  He’s got a year under his belt learning the system and one of Thompson’s main competitors has left the mix.  If he was to have had a good spring, I would think a scholarship was just around the corner.  Thompson is being given bad advice and he will never be heard from again.    I wanted him to see the field.

Apparently SL knows very little about Greyson...otherwise he wouldn’t have lost him to Deion Sanders

If a coach says, "you should move on," to a player, and he follows suit, you would consider that breaking a commitment?

What if a program says, "we're not going to renew your scholarship"? Why does a recruit have to commit for 4-5 years when the coaching staff only has to commit for 1 year at a time?

What if a coach has flat-out lied to a player during the recruiting process, and that comes to light during the season, causing that player to move on? (I'm not saying any of our coaches have done this--purely a hypothetical.)

Those are all good points, agreed. I would be willing to beat that just a fraction (maybe those you can count on 2 hands) of the hundreds & hundreds of student athletes electing to transfer have been told to move on OR had their scholly revoked. Coaches can lie, make their program look pretty...sure.

How many transfers are "studs," multi-year starters, 1st string and happy...that just up and leave? Do they exists? Sure! I think we'd find that most are not satisfied with the results of their efforts aka job placement. It's always greener somewhere else.

But, can we always assume that a player in the portal has broken a commitment?  That's impossible to know without being privy to private conversations between said player and the coaching staff.

The commitment is the LOI signed by student athlete to attend and be part of the team in exchange for their schooling being paid for...they break that commitment when they bounce. Right? A LOI doesn't promise you playing time, but it promises you an education & a chance to fight for that job and be part of the team.

My money is on Kason Martin. He may not start the season as the starter but I can see him overtaking Bean & Aune by mid-season. It's worth noting he was the lone QB to not throw an interception last Saturday. He also threw a 60 yd TD and his performance earned praise from coach after the scrimmage. The fact that coach Littrell made a point to mention Kason alongside Bean & Aune to me says this is a real 3-man race for the spot. Apparently Kason has practiced well up to this point and continues to make a good argument for playing time.

With 8 conference games I am thinking 4-4 is realistic?  Wins over UTSA UTEP MUTS and Charlotte?  Losses against the good teams like La Tech UAB, Southern Miss and Rice.

I like your thoughts, @Coach Andy Mac I think by the time Rice gets here we're clicking as a team and get the W.
    5-3 is my guess.

    L vs Southern Miss
    W vs Charlotte
    W vs MUT
    W vs UTEP
    L vs LaTech
    L vs UAB
    W vs Rice
    W vs UTSA

I just want the boys to play!

Aune has been in a college program since January 2018, which is longer than any other quarterback on our roster. Reading this board you might think he hasn’t touched a football since he graduated high school 8 years ago.

True...Aune has been in a college program since Jan of 2018. That's not the same as being a starter or getting the majority of reps. From 2012-2017 he was about as far removed from the game as you can be...but I'm sure he touched a football during that time.

Kentucky transfer Amani Gilmore is an interesting option with his running ability, but sophomore Jason Bean and former Arkansas transfer Austin Aune will get the first cracks of the gig after serving as Fine’s backups. Bean was the No. 2 – it’s his job to lose.

Bean is bad, Aune has been away from the game for a LONG time & Gilmore sits out 2020 and will never start if this year's starter does well.

Although, he only has a few college plays, he has made it evident he is very fast.

40 speeds are all suspect, a legit track time is a much better gauge every time..

Put those legs to use and make him a WR.
