  1. I was just thinking about Renfro today and remembering that whole debacle. I couldn't remember his name so I had to do some Googling to see whatever happened to him. From what I can see, 3 years in, he has still not played one down of college football. Perhaps the grass isn't always greener....

  2. I am so damn proud of this group! No Abou. Eady playing with a broken hand. This team could have easily folded after not making the big dance, but this run was such a great display of their fight and character.

I am so grateful to Coach McCasland, regardless of what happens. He has given us so much good basketball and so much joy over the last 6 years. Texas Tech is damn lucky to have him. He took over a dreadful program here and turned it into a first class program that has an expectation of winning.

I am so grateful to the 2022-2023 Mean Green! NIT Champs!!!

GO MEAN GREEN!!!! Very proud alum here and I know you all are as well. What an incredibly fun night to be a UNT alum/fan!

He has definitely been part of some solid defenses in the P5 ranks.

I was curious about his track record as a DC at Washington & Jefferson. I don't know anything about the competition, but aside from a couple of blowouts, the points scored against them seems very respectable after a quick glance.

If you look at the points scored against his defense, this is how each season averages out:

    • 2008: 23.46 PPG
    • 2009: 13.81 PPG
    • 2010: 20.45 PPG

The 63-7 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2008 and 55-0 loss to Mount Union in 2009 skew the averages for those two years. I have no idea what happened in those games, but if you remove the outliers from each season (the game with the highest points scored against and the game with the lowest points scored against), here's how each season averages out:

    • 2008: 21.36 PPG
    • 2009: 10 PPG
    • 2010: 21.1 PPG

All this to say, if Caponi can get our defense to perform this way in the AAC...and Morris gets his top-scoring offense rolling...we just might have some phenomenal football seasons ahead of us!

Not relevant at all, but I played baseball at St Vincent  (prior to graduating from UNT) - all of these teams were in our conference. I don't know anything about the football programs, but I will say all of those towns and schools are very blue collar. Lot of really tough kids up there.

  4. I just randomly remembered Dajon Williams. I remembered that I thought/hoped he would be a good QB for UNT and then I remembered a strange transfer. To the best of my memory, the details were never made public. I did a quick google search and didn't see anything about him catching on anywhere else. Does anyone know whatever happened to him? Why did he leave? Did he ever play anywhere else?

    Thanks in advance! GMG!

  5. Hello all. Going to be taking my 2 year old daughter to her first UNT football game this season. Curious if y'all could provide me with some answers that I can't seem to find on the UNT website. Do 2 year olds require a ticket purchase? Has anyone sat in the Family Zone? What does the Family Zone entail? Where is the section located? Is alcohol allowed in the Family Zone?

Thank you in advance for your help! Go Mean Green!

  6. I know similar threads have been posted lately, but two days ago, I came across an old Facebook status of mine that helped put things in perspective for me. First off, let me say that I am disappointed in our 2 losses. Both games were very winnable and we let big leads slip away in both. It's very frustrating as a fan. No denying that.

However, my Facebook post from 2016 was a grateful post for UNT being 4-3 on the season after having gone 1-11 the previous year. I was so happy with being 4-3. Now, two years later, I felt (and think we all feel) so disappointed at being 6-2 after eight games. In two short years, we have had that much of a shift in mentality. That says an awful lot about this program. I've never been more proud to be a UNT fan and alum.

Yes, it sucks that we will not play for the conference championship. It sucks that we likely won't get a great bowl match-up. But this program is still absolutely headed in the right direction. And with a great signing class for next season, I don't think there is any reason not to be excited and proud to be part of the Mean Green family.

Just thought I would share that. Seeing that old Facebook post in my memories was the kick in the tail I needed for a little perspective on my expectations. GO MEAN GREEN!!!

  7. I appreciate the info/responses. This is the first year I've actually felt like top 25 was within the realm of possibility. The top 25 has never mattered to me because I knew my team was never a possibility. For that reason, I've never paid much attention to it. Thank y'all for your insights/knowledge.

  8. Wow. I didn't realize it was that bleak. I was really thinking going into the La Tech game, that if we'd snuck out of that one with a W and been 5-0, we'd have cracked the top 25. I know last week's W at UTEP was not terribly awe-inspiring. Kinda sad. I just keep desperately hoping to see UNT in the top 25 on Monday mornings. That would/will be a pretty cool moment.
