  1. With how the roster was constructed by spring time, the coaches had to be banking on some scholarship guys entering the portal so they could grab defensive lineman and fill other holes from spring evals. Seems to be part of the plan, but we will see how it pays off.

why would he Bizjack only be wishful thinking? 3-star...TCU/Wisconsin/Butler were his top offers, but everyone else is a pier program or beneath...contributed as a freshman in the Big East, but 4.2ppg, 27% 3pt shooter, didn't exactly light it up. this looks like the ideal candidate...take a small step down a level in order to come back home

Almost certain we offered him out of high school.

There’s no way I believe style of play drastically affected attendance. That would have to mean there are thousands of people out there who paid enough attention to figure out the style of play and then decided, “no thanks.”

I would say Benford had a greater affect on attendance than style of play. Second to benford, things are just different post covid and i think the AD is still figuring that out.

    Why him?

So you end the season on National TV, highest profile for the school ever and nowhere in the AD’s statement did I read that there will be a national search for a replacement. Seems like we are just settling. What makes anyone feel that he will be successful? If other schools felt that he is the next hotshot coach, why did they not offer.

Quite frankly, I don’t won’t to see the exact same offense we saw the majority of the year. (Which lead to the lowest points allowed) We had a scrappy bunch of kids that played hard and bought in.  McCasland turned out amazing results you can’t argue. He said that he was going to win and he did. The vast majority of fans, however, stayed home. I imagine in part, because of the style of ball. Don’t rip me, find out why.

So, we don’t feel, at this point in time, that there’s not better other prospects? Recruiting has been a mixed bag. Solid hits and too many misses. Again, they accomplished their goal so it’s hard to argue. I just think that we have finally reached a point where we can ascend the heights of an FAU and others. (Not status quo)

I guess I don’t know enough about this pending hire. SMU hired Tim Jankovich when Larry Brown stepped down. Jank was responsible for most of the recruits they brought in. SMU faltered. Tony Benford was a hot shoot assistant, known for recruiting. He’s still a top notch assistant.

Please help educate me on why this will be a great hire to take us much higher? I’ll happily get on board. Just not excited right now. Thanks for asking.

Wren Baker said on his post NIT interview on the Green Room that as many offers as Mac had turned down, Hodge had turned down plenty of jobs at p5 schools for double the money.

I would swap Tristian Thompson and Jordan Williams. Tristian's offensive numbers were so much better. Dude shot 41.8% from 3 in 2011 and 45.9% overall! Compared to Williams' 30.3% from 3 and 40.2% overall in 2014.

Yeah but Jordan Williams had to be dragged down by benford's abysmal coaching and rotations. So he gets extra bonus points.

Dude I like you and usually your posts, but I am calling bullshit on this one.  If what you said is true and Littrell was setting the world on fire with his recruiting, why in the F did we have 8 QB's on the roster, none of which could play?  Why did UTSA curb stomp us in recruiting year in year out, starting with landing Frank Harris who we all know and will know again this coming season?  I guess UTSA was just that much better than us with all of their facilities?  I won't say Littrell's recruiting sucked but he certainly did not take advantage of many tools he was given like the indoor practice facility?

Also on that note, if another poster comes on here defending Littrell's recruiting versus past coaching staff I think I will throw up.  Littrell had WAY better facilities and conference etc to sell.  Way better.  He did enough to get by and that is basically it and to say otherwise if revisionist.   The man did not win one conference championship in 8 years and C-USA is not the SEC.

I enjoy a good debate, so here's my counter. I'm basing my recruiting on the overall metrics and rankings on popular sites like 247, ON3, Rivals, etc. I never said Litrell got every drop out of what he has to offer. But you can't argue that he didn't compete and beat most of his competition in the realm of of recruiting. Not on field performance, in-game decisions, staffing choices, etc. I'm isolating my argument to recruiting. Which, by G5 standards was above average and by conference standards he was in the upper echelon.

North Texas was behind UTSA in 2022 but... the three years prior UNT's class was all ranked ahead. This is the exact revisionist mindset i'm talking about. They might not have maximized that potential, but by all exterior metrics the class was considered better year over year at UNT.

Hell last season we had 5 All-CUSA first teamers Horton, Gummes, Mose, KD, Texada. We have an elite receiving core still in the building and had one of the better o-lines in the country. Running back room has been more than full the entire time he was here. Litrell didn't lose his seasons in the offseason recruiting periods it was in player development, and in some of his coordinator hires.

Counterpoint: Nearly half that class transferred or never had meaningful playing time for us.

It can and probably will happen to Morris too. That's the two edged sword of NIL/Transfer Portal recruiting. You can bring all the talent in the world in. Doesn't mean much if they don't actually help you

This is still a revisionist lens. He and the staff averaged a top three class in CUSA even walked away with a #1. Whether the staff developed or held onto that talent is a separate debate. But we have 2 NFL receivers and a slew of all-conference guys. Improvements to O-line. I'm excited about the future here, but come on just because it didn't pan out with Litrell doesn't mean him and the staff didn't have their merit.

When it comes to Morris, like in the case of say... Darden, some of these offers have dried up UTSA has an almost full class, most of their recruiting was done before the ESP. We will get a gauge of the reality of where we stand next cycle. Some of these recruits would have been picked apart by the same for only having one other off or only the service academies, etc.

It's an exciting time but the results are far from in, and it's just a bias against Litrell and what he accomplished. Even Morris stated this isn't an empty cupboard and spent a lot of time recruiting the guys he had already on campus. That's not necessary if Litrell was as bad at recruiting as you all seem to think he was. Let the roster walk and bring in your own guys then. Both things can't be true.

We have a pretty loaded RB room. I am not bashing Jahbari, he seems to be a pretty talented kid. I think this was just a matter of need. His production was down, and we hired a new staff. It probably just didn't make a lot of sense to sign another RB when we currently have 4 quality backs in the rotation and 2-3 more signed over previous years that will take over when they graduate. I bet an FCS school will pick him up and he lights it up.

    2021: 176-1,603-14 rushing (9.1 ypc) and 7-42-0 receiving as a junior.

    2022: 117-719-10 rushing (6.1 ypc) and 10-75-1 receiving as a senior

I think this is a pretty accurate line of thinking. We have limited ships and RB isn' a place of need right now. I feel bad put the kid in a tough position, hope he finds a good home.
