  1. I applaud your objectivity, greenminer.

Would've been a very soft call if called. Both were handfighting--it's not like Texada had his hands up or anything. Texada is a great corner but it's not uncommon for great offense to beat great defense...and Clark is the best receiver in the conference and absolutely elite at high pointing the ball. Probably the only one out of UTSA's three top receivers that is a shoe-in to get drafted.

Amazing game. I thought Littrell had a really great gameplan. This is probably how y'all felt after Fine orchestrated the drive.

    This.

Heres your Texas CFB hierarchy of looking down at rivals:

    UT>A&M>Tech>Baylor>TCU>SMU>UNT>UTSA>Texas State

Nobody cares at all about UH, Rice, or UTEP

One of those is not like the others though. If you look at the series records, the team that looks down on the other team has dominated the series. UNT OTOH is 3-3 against UTSA and was down 3-1 at one point. All games except one have been one possession games. I'd call that having delusions of grandeur, not dominance.

  3. Please kill us. Don't take your foot off the gas pedal. Shut us out and hang 60 on us. Make it abundantly clear that Wilson is a complete fraud. Inspire our AD to hire a real coach like Litrell instead a f'ing "recruiting guru".

It has nothing to do wth SA, it has to do with your new staff being great recruiters. Personal relationships are about 1 million times more important in recruiting than what city a school is located in, whether it be a S hole like SA or a liberal arts Mecca (according to you) like Denton.

    That was my point.

You weren't out-recruiting us with Coker. That's why he "resigned." It appears you made a better hire AT THIS POINT IN TIME. Enjoy.

Because you still live in a Craphole and attended a Craphole university.

UTSA was absolutely outrecruiting UNT under Coker. We weren't at the top of conference recruiting rankings like we are with Wilson, but hauling better recruiting classes than UNT isn't a novelty. Neither is recruits with offers from both schools picking UTSA over UNT. Ask BillySee.

SA is a Craphole of a town. UTSA is a Craphole of a campus. Your team plays in a Craphole of a stadium. If a coach can recruit to that Craphole of a situation, a coach should be able to slay it at UNT.

Im not artsy. I could give a crap about jazz or the UNT music scene. I went to UNT when Denton was MUCH smaller and had a grand ole time.

What you are showing is your own ignorance. Denton has 113,000 residents inside the city limits and the county had a population of 662,614 in the 2010 census.  Are they all artsy fartsy types? Are you really that prejudiced?

Maybe you like living in a town where the biggest attraction is a s-hole of a creek running through downtown that smells like human excrement half the year. Maybe you think THAT is what draws recruits. It doesn't.

What draws recruits is hard work, relationships, and salesmanship. It looks like you lucked into a coach that is really good at those things. If he can coach at all and keeps recruiting like he has, your Craphole of a school will win a conference championship long before UNT.

In any business or organization, the biggest thing that matters are the people in that organization. By a mile. UNT has had some crappy people in positions of power for a very long time that had an extremely adverse effect in this program. Overcoming the perceptions these people have left in their wake is way more of a factor than the City of Denton.

Now, go build a football stadium or a weight room.

It's a shame recruits don't agree with your assessment of UTSA and San Antonio.

I'm just saying, two coaching staffs since joining CUSA and the results are the same on the recruiting trail. At some point you have to start looking inward instead of blaming it on someone like Litrell, who again on paper looks like a solid recruiter. Although tbf, I understand that it is a difficult thing to accept.

UNT's struggles?  Oh, like a school that has no D1 venues on its campus but rather plenty of commuters who need UBER to get to your games is CUSA's new standard bearer?  I think not.

Did you see all those people wearing green at the HOD Bowl game on that  ESPN televised game a few weeks ago?  Pretty dismal situation you say?  (For you I'm sure it was disheartening--but more amazing is how only "2 years earlier" there were even more fans in the Cotton Bowl wearing green in a Mean Green bowl win).

Your apathetic alumni has shown that it comes out for bowl game in Dallas. Unfortunately, they've also shown that they won't do the same for regular season games in Denton. Regardless, not sure what any of that has to do with UNT's recruiting struggles.

Your opinion of Denton is pretty comical and thinking that is a big deal to recruits is pretty funny.  Sure, they want fun places to hang out during their college years, but a number of universities would never get a good recruit if they followed your line of thinking.  Coming from a resident of San Antonio makes this even better.

I'm talking about the general scene of Denton. Personally, I've only been there once and it was really just for a UTSA/UNT game but the general vibe I get from the place is that it likes to be out there. I've seen the "Keep Denton Beard" slogan. I really don't think kids who were star athletes in HS click with that scene. Again, just my opinion.

It has zero to do with the City of Denton. That's just stupid. The problem is UNT's consistent failure to hire a coach and staff that can both coach and recruit.

Dodge was a great recruiter and a terrible coach.

DMac was a bad recruiter and a bad coach/

Dckey was probably the best recruiter UNT has seen, but was an average to below average game day coach. He also had no budget to work with.

Littrell can coach. Winning 5 games with 68 scholarship players proves that. The big question is can he recruit. Unless this class improved dramatically in the next 3 weeks, signs will point to no.

Littrell is young and energetic. On paper, he should be a great recruiter that kids can relate to. Not even trolling, I honestly think he is at a disadvantage because of the scene/vibe of UNT/Denton. I think his recruiting would be considerably better if he was at UTSA or Texas State. I'm not even trying to crap on Denton...if you're an artsy or music kind of person you probably love it there. I just don't think that athletes are typically artsy or music kind of people.

I've said for years we need to raid & pay handsomely key assistants from CUSA rival schools who are beating us on the recruiting trails.  Hell, we built what would now be a $150 million stadium so can we afford such an assistant coach?   (The answer is...yes).?

That's pretty delusional. TDECU cost $130 million.

Regarding UNT's struggles recruiting, I just don't think the typical athlete can relate to UNT or Denton very well. It's full of hipsters that are proud of being weird and can be pretty stuck-up towards outsiders. If you're a star athlete, which all these recruits are in the HS ranks, that probably isn't your scene. I mean you have a new stadium, new young, energetic coaching staff, bowl game...at some point you have to start pointing the finger at UNT and Denton. Just my opinion.

  8. GMG's delusions of grandeur are always good for a chuckle.

Just curious, what in the world makes such a historically bad program have such arrogant fans? What makes y'all think a $70 million stadium is the standard for college stadiums? Since when is Denton more than just an unknown, Austin wannabe little town? For the record, UTSA doesn't want a rivalry with UNT. Six years old and already hold a 3-1 series lead. Already outrecruiting you. It'd be dumb to want to be associated in that way with such a historically mediocre program.

And before anyone pulls the "why do you post here" card. I'm here to chuckle at your delusions of grandeur. Not because I want you as a rival.

"Lazy" got us Kishawn McClain, Jeffrey Wilson, Willy Ivery, Eric Keena, Cortney Finney, James Gray, Brandon Garner, Jareid Combs, Nate Brooks, Fred Scott, Trevor Moore, Terian Goree, Thaddeous Thompson, Kenny Buyers, Creighton Barr, Chad Davis, Roderick Young, T.J. Tauaalo, etc.

So, again...congrats on beating UTEP's offer and 125 other FBS schools who didn't offer.  We've got the players we need, and now have the defensive coaches to put them in a successful scheme and a QB who plays, for the most part, mistake free.

In case you hadn't noticed, this isn't tennis; it's a team sport.  The team was never going to be made or broken by one kid whose family got their feelings hurt because we already had enough linebackers and, so, wouldn't suck up to their little boy.  Get over it.  We're not hurting at linebacker.

Our linebackers are driving what is a pretty decent defense this year...as you'll soon see live and in person.

Hear me now, believe me later.

Pretty ironic that you talk about it being a team game yet post names of select individuals to support your claim that your recruiting was fine.

Its almost as if you haven't looked at conference standings or recruiting rankings the past couple of years.

The post was in May, before the season began.

Also, we were one of 126 FBS schools that didn't offer him, so...congratulations.  The blind squirrel does find a nut here and there.

People here get a little excited, though and forget that the leading rushers were recruited by the old staff, all the receivers in double digits for receptions so far were recruited by the old staff, ditto the kicker and punter...

...as well as the majority of defensive:  five of the six interceptions have come courtesy of players recruited by the old staff, as well as the top seven leading tacklers on the team; of the 14 sacks registered, 10 have come from players recruited by the old staff.

What the old staff couldn't do was get a decent QB.  They also couldn't get the defense right.

The old staff recruited well just about everywhere except QB.  Even their OLs seem to do just fine run blocking.

The new staff is full of excellent defensive coaches, and that is the main difference.  They also have found a QB who can complete less than 60% of his passes, average less than 180 yards passing a game, but still manage the game well...like the senior year Derek Thompson.

So, congratulations for the LB 126 other schools looked past, ours from roughly the same time period - Courtney Finney and Brandon Garner - are doing just fine.

What other players that had no other FBS scholarship offers would you like to brag about, while you are here?  Your school's roster has as many as ours.  Some work out, some don't.

Jesus, what part of he had other G5 offers do you not understand? His older brother played at UTEP and they offered him. He also took a visit to Colorado St. and was deciding between them and UTSA prior to committing.

Not to mention the fact that a recruit shouldn't be solely evaluated on whether he has other offers or not. Especially if they're right in your backyard. That's just lazy.

Reading that article is actually the reason I posted the update. There's a bit on there about GMG. And with the power of google it only took a couple of seconds to find the thread. Although after reading this thread, I don't think it's that negative towards him. I think the thread being referenced in the article is probably the one in the recruiting section of the forum.

  12. UPDATE: 68 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 3 sacks, 1 INT (6 games)

One CUSA Defensive Player of the Week award under his belt. Third nationally in tackles per game. First among Freshman. Looks like a lock to be a Freshman All-American. Yeah, UNT missed out on a good one.

BTW MeanGreenMailbox, are you not aware of what a check represents? The Rivals link you provided to prove that he had one measly offer clearly shows that he had offers from other G5 schools.
