  1. How about just practicing a little class? There, I asked.

I agree that it is inappropriate, but there could be creative and constructive ways to handle the situation. If the administration wants a little class to be practiced they should make a clear request and open a line of dialogue regarding the matter. Have a forum. Ten people will show up. Send out an e-mail. I have never said dirty words during the fight song, but I've never been asked not to. (I know, common sense)

What we have in our talons is opportunity. We can collaborate on a new addition to the fight song that all groups can be proud of. All we need are 4 syllables to join traditionalist and desecrator, uptight Southlaker and mullet-adorned Wataugan, immature student and dignified alumni. We can sream our lungs out in peaceful harmony and fondly scoff at the dark ages when ruthless vandals and barbarians threatened to unravel the fabric of our way of life by disgracing our glorious fight song with shameful language.

  2. As a resident of either Southlake, Grapevine or Keller over the past 20+ years I feel it is my duty to let you know we don't think you are not good enough because you don't live in a "McMansion". You're not good enough because you are MF'n obnoxious. Newsflash - other teams aren't going to be intimidated by students, especially when the main attack is a potty word.

Intimidate isn't the right word. I have seen many a screaming match between visiting players/trainers/asst. coaches and the student section. The "potty word" is the mildest of what goes on in the student section, and far from a main attack. Players aren't intimidated but the student section has an impact on visiting teams.

  3. Instead of changing the fight song to remove the opportunity to insert the filthy phrase, how about asking the students use another phrase. Why not mother loving? Or how about mother hugging? The current action taken is going to create a game of whack-a-mole. It's an invitation to create new ways to be offensive. When someone is openly trying to be annoying, the worst mistake is to let them annoy you. That means you lose. You're now on defense. Probably best not to act in locus parentis. No one wants to lose touch with future alumni.

  4. He just got a lot of TV time. The announcers brought up that our new coach was a disaster that hurt him and his development, however he is having a great showing so far today. His athleticism is showcasing today during the warmups. They even said he looks "Rodman like".

Do you have a direct quote for what was said about Benford? I only ask because I had to watch the combine coverage without sound.

  5. Hoping to emulate TCU's success is great, but as it relates to attendance, we can't discount the fact that they've effectively become Fort Worth's "pro" team in the way the Longhorns are in Austin.

Obviously, Fort Worth residents and government have an inferiority complex regarding Dallas, so as soon as TCU showed on-field success, the city was quick to embrace them in full as the most visible sports representation of their city

This can't really happen in Denton because most in the area primarily associate themselves more with either Dallas or Fort Worth than they claim Denton as "home" in this way.

I will have to respectfully disagree with this statement. There is some furvent Denton pride going around these days. If we could out perform SMU and TCU that would certainly win over the city.

  7. Wait...did I miss a part of the SI article where Collins says he has indiscriminate, unprotected anal sex? I thought he only admitted being attracted to guys. I know some gay guys who find the idea of anal sex - as well as multiple partners - repulsive. I doubt there's a statistic on what percentage of MSM dislike it, since closeted discretion would prevent many from being polled or getting a proper statistical sample.

Point being, some guys (as evidenced by the article in question) hide so well and for so long that they are into their 30s or later before even considering a physical relationship. So unless there's a segment where he discusses trolling truck stops and airport terminals for discreet hookups like a Senator would, there is no reason to assume that Collins' orientation has resulted in any high-risk behaviors.

Additionally, if you examine further CDC studies a male over the age of 30 is at a significantly lower risk of contracting HIV. That's only one example, but the CDC has a mountain of data that is complex and can be interpreted a number of ways. Citing one study is not sufficient evidence. Especially without a lengthy discussion about sample sizes and methods.
