That is not outside the realm of possibility especially if that is what it takes to move up the ranking ladder. It seems there has never been more "official" interest in North Texas' success in that regard. Let us hope.

Far from it, the potential for a UNT(-Denton) and UNTHSC merger in the early 2010s was derailed by the former UNTHSC president who sabotaged efforts against the UNT System's efforts:

Merging UNT and UNTHSC makes more sense today than it did when the private Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine was taken over by the State of Texas, and put under the control of the NTSU BoR. Now that the TCU/UNTHSC partnered MD school has been taken over fully by TCU, UNTHSC no longer has the same direction/distraction for the first time in decades.

The primary reason to merge is aggregating the research expenditures from a Med School (MD/DO) with the general academic departments at UNT towards metrics AAU considers for admission. It's not enough to bridge the gap where TTU (has two med schools, but in separate HSC universities like UNTHSC) and UH (who just opened their med school within UH) already are, but is the modern organizational structure UT Austin, UT Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M, UH, and soon UT Tyler, already benefit from.

UTSA and UT Health San Antonio tried a similar merger around the same time UNT/UNTHSC was proposed and failed:

If we could ever get in the AAC together, especially now with the AAC moving to DFW, the two schools could actually work together and co-host quite a few tournaments

Back in 2017, The American already announced their plans to host the men's basketball tournament here Fort Worth from 2020-2022. DFW is already within driving distance for half of their conference (Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, and Wichita State) without UNT as a member:

Located in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, Dickies Arena sits among a thriving tourism area and just 10 minutes from downtown Fort Worth. Six of The American’s 12 members are located within driving distance of Fort Worth, while the other six members have direct flight options to the metropolitan area.

The next time @Brett Vito writes a draft article and mentions the drought, please link back to this thread.

We have three members that have been registered on this forum for a combined 46 years trying to remember the details of who, when, and what round our last draftee entered the NFL.

For the 99% of people reading Vito writings that follow North Texas even less closely than the people here do, that "UNT hasn't had a player drafted since..." is an important detail that almost nobody knows, and answers a relevant question begged by the presence of future articles on potential draftees.

Vito does, indeed, need to mention it when he writes articles about UNT and the NFL draft.

GMG needs to have a pinned link to the most recent media guide each season in the football and basketball forums.

Easiest way to answer any of these random questions to the board at large and the trivia game of replies that follows.

  4. No chance of making the C-USA Championship Game now.

We'll probably end up in the Heart of Dallas Bowl or the New Orleans Bowl.

For a program's first winning season in nine years, there's nothing to be ashamed of receiving a bid to either of those two bowls.

  5. I think at some point we will be UNT-Denton, and it could be near...

With the UNT/UNTHSC merger, we'll see a rebranding of the campuses (i.e., UNT at Denton, UNT at Fort Worth). It'd be odd to have the "University of North Texas at Denton School of Public Health" located in Fort Worth.

There's no reason UNT can't become the #1 team in North Texas, and the state. Abilene Christian, Boise State, Sam Houston State, TCU, and Utah all became recognized programs after sustaining runs winning against "lesser" teams. In the Southland, Big West, and Sunbelt, UNT has had the opportunity to do the same thing and will again in C-USA.

  6. I have heard, but can't document, that Texas Tech is moving it's pharmacy school to Dallas. If so,we may find ourselves in same situation as we do with our no longer needed law school.

UNT System College of Pharmacy will be the 7th in Texas, but only one based in North Texas. The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy (SOP) was established to cover 108-counties in West Texas and is based in Amarillo but one-third of the SOP's enrollment is from North Texas. TTUHSC SOP has grown in the short 12 years its had a regional campuses in Dallas but hopefully both pharmacy schools will be able to co-exist on opposite ends of The Metroplex.

The TTUHSC SOP Dallas campus is split between two locations on the Dallas VA Medical Center campus in South Dallas and within the Southwestern Medical District (Children's Medical Center Dallas, Parkland Memorial Hospital, TWU Institute of Health Sciences UT Southwestern Medical Center, etc.) where the future UNT System school will be west of Downtown Fort Worth 40-miles apart. Enrollment at SOP is much smaller than either of Texas Southern University and the University of Houston's colleges of pharmacy. Both operate separate public pharmacy colleges at Texas Medical Center, so I can't imagine the UNT System College of Pharmacy being pushed out by TTUHSC, but instead as an addition in North Texas.

  7. After seeing the newly expanded 30,000-seat Bobcat Stadium, Texas State-San Marcos has stepped up to the Division I plate finally. The Bobcats will be able to carve out a chunk of both the Austin and San Antonio markets from the t-shirt UT and UTSA fans in the next few years the same way UNT will be able to with the Big 12 schools t-shirt fans in DFW.

Just like UNT (with DFW), Texas State-San Marcos is just far enough out of the metro (Austin) to not be lost in the pro shuffle and keep its identity. The only reason UTSA is in C-USA is their domed home field in a major metro. How different would UNT be if UT Arlington had brought back football but this time at Cowboys Stadium?

Considering that the Mean Greens' most played opponent are the Bobcats, there's already a history there that UTSA doesn't have with UNT (or anyone else for that matter) that could develop into one of the better rivalries in the state. Both Texas State-San Marcos and UNT have more similaries than differences and with both programs looking for an anchor, having the Bobcats in C-USA with the Mean Green would only help BOTH universities.
