Not as a HC.
...at least, not at FBS level right now. Maybe a FCS or lower school if he's interested now, or maybe after resurrecting his coaching spirit as OC or RBs coach somewhere for a few years.
EDIT: Like UIW's opening after Kinne's hiring would be something he should consider if he wants to remain a HC right now.
However, they may look at it as now he has HC experience.
He took over a 1-11 team and got them to 6 bowls in 7 years....at a school that has been very hard to win at.
Then they ask themselves, what could he do here with a fresh start and our support system?
Time will tell.

I really wanted Seth to get hired away to break the cycle.
He has 7 years' experience as a head coach.
He's coming of a winning season with his team in a bowl. He has a 500 record as a head coach.
Someone's going to hire him.

Darden is number 1 in the NFL in punt returns with 330 yards. Someone is going to pick him up.

Joking aside, I always think about this when we do have a coaching change.
The new guy arrives with his beaming and proud family and there are hugs for all. We have speeches about how Coach X is the right man for the job and how they are going to turn this ship around. Except they don't. And the cycle repeats.
While I am still vertical, I really do hope the next man is the one.
Spot on.
Either you are a profit, a seer of the future, or you're as old as I am.

The way I see it, we saved Seth from leaving here with a losing record. No one believes he stood a chance in the bowl game, as his record has shown. And if we kept him around that long, he would have left here with a losing record. We did him a favor since he doesn't have a losing record as a head coach.
Good point. Having a 500 record is an accomplishment judging by the past 44 years.
A little perspective, a sense of ironic humor, and some booze helps.

UNT needs to fire the next coach. They need to get out ahead this approaching coaching fiasco.
Everyone knows that the coach who replaces him will be the answer to our dreams.

I think that halfway through the season we should at least be in first place in our conference.

Possible new poll question:
Will more people be upset if UNT loses 10 games next year.
or
Will more people be upset if UNT wins 10 games next year.
Judging by this forum it would be a tossup.

This is the hardest part to believe as realistic. Even if we won 9-11 games, P5 donors (who evaluate candidates much more surface level than ADs) would be scared off by his record the last 3 seasons.
Kansas hired Lance Leipold after he went 37-33 at Buffalo. He went 2-10 this year.
Indiana hired Tom Allen who was the DC at S. Florida and 0-0 as a head coach. He went 2-10 this year.
Geogia Tech hire Geoff Collins after he went 15-10 at Temple. He went 3-9 this year and 9-25 overall.
There are a dozen similar stories with P5 schools. There will be schools looking for HCs.
If Littrell has a 9 or 10 win season and a record of 47-42 he will get looks.

Outrageous early prediction:
If Littrell is left alone, UNT will win 9 to 11 games next year. His overall record will be 46 to 48 wins and 41 or 42 losses. Some P5 schools will take a long look at him and try to hire him away. You can tell me how stupid I was a year from now.

He also won an NFL championship as a player and one as an assistant coach. He is credited with popularizing the two-minute offense.

Yes he does but need I remind you that he has been here 6 years now. About as long as it took me to get my bachelors degree at NT. That’s a long time!
I received my bachelor's degree in 4 years. It just takes some people longer than others, so let's cut Littrell some slack.

What are we having to "tear down"? Heck, what are we having to "rebuild"? The talent is already here!
The issue in your citations is that 1998 - 2016 was a completely different era in the timeframe of UNT Athletics. Everything during this era was done on a shoestring budget with minimal backing from the University as a whole. That era is not pertinent now.
Sadly, I would say about 90+% of people here on GMG.com are only able to view through the lens you're viewing it through. I get it, many of us here were close supporters of the program during this timeframe, so it's what we know.
It needs to be stressed more, so I'll keep banging this drum: Things are different now.
President Smatresk and Wren Baker have a vision for NT athletics that far exceeds anything that Presidents Hurley, Pohl, Battaille (complete opposite of her minimized vision), Rawlins & AD Rick Villareal could ever fathom.Y'all, it can be so much better than .500.
Littrell has a pretty good and improving young team. Of the 26 players listed on the offensive depth chart for the bowl game, only 3 are seniors. On defense only 5 of 22 players are seniors.
I agree things are different now. Player can now transfer easily when a head coach and his staff leave.

OK. Get a new coach.
Tear it down. Rebuild. 2006 3-9 Darrell DickeyGet a new coach.
Tear it down.Rebuild. 2010 2-9 Todd Dodge (1-6)Get a new coach.
Tear it down.Rebuild. 2015 1-11 Dan McCarney (0-5)Get a new coach. Tear it down. Rebuild. 2021 6-6 heading into a bowl game
Sounds familiar, except this time it would be tearing it down and then having to rebuild.

Yes. This is a young team that has found itself. The next 2 years could be special if things stay put.
However, with all the moral support he received this season, I don't know if I could blame him.

I was looking at the records of teams in CUSA and noticed a very odd stat.
UNT, Old Dominion, and Western Kentucky opened the season with a combined record of 3-16, then they went for a combined 17-0 over their last 17 games.
UNT and Old Dominion each opened at 1-6 and then won their last 5 games, while WK open at 1-4 and then won their last 7. What are the odds?

Littrell seems have the loyalty of his players. What's happening at OU is interesting, with both recruits decommitting and players transferring.
Spencer Rattler would look good in a green UNT uniform.

So fans that are not happy with #Hit6 in year 6 of the highest paid coach in the conference are bad fans. I guess if we wen 1-11 you would consider yourself a great fan. Just because your a sheep don't blame others who are actually tired of #OLDDENTON.
UTSA has the highest paid coach in the conference (2.8 ave for 10yrs) and they just got stomped by a 6-6 team that has won their last 5 games.

PERSPECTIVE. Do you think a new coach will automatically mean utopia? This is a young team that has found itself. Let them have a chance. The next 2 years could be very special.
Or you could change coaches, have players transfer out, and start the rebuilding process all over again.

Littrell's 37-37 record doesn't looks so bad when you compare it to the 28-69 combined record of the prior 2 coaches.
Their teams quit on them. Just saying.

The last time a North Texas coach was 0-5 and rattled off a bunch of wins to reach a bowl, we won 4 straight conference titles.
Who was that guy?
Darrell Dickey lost in the bowl game that year, but won the bowl game the next year by beating Cincinnati.

He did not let his team quit.
