  1. According to Rivals: We have 10 verbal commits. All are rated 2 star. Of the 10 that are committed, only 3 have offers from other schools (Nelson-1, Schilleci-1, Scott-1). All are from Texas except Berglund and he is considered a transfer.

Houston (CUSA/Big East) has 7 commits from the state of TX, all 3 star. SMU (CUSA) has 14 commits from the state of TX with 6- 3 star, 5 - 2 star and 3 not rated.

    .

If this is the best we can do in the state of TX, we need to branch out and recruit elsewhere and continue to use jucos. The HS class is weak.

  3. All passes throne by dt are the most risky pass we could attempt. His low football iq coupled with his accuracy problems are HUGE problems for this offense. On his 3rd qtr interception powers was running free down the middle of the field, with no one behind him, but he throws it to a guy with two defenders around him and doesn't come close to the wr.

That's the way its been all season. Stare down one receiver while there are others wide open. Powers should have had two TDs yesterday, if he had been thrown the ball. Pitiful QB play. But If you don't work hard in practice and in the off season, you won't play well in games unless you are a super talent and that's not the case with our QB.

  4. Baloney. After the pick six the score was 24-16 in our favor. The defense has the option of protecting the lead just as much as the offense does in extending the lead. The defense didn't protect the lead and the offense didn't produce more points, so both units shared in blowing the game.

Before the game, the argument from DT's detractors was the he is inaccurate...though he complete 70+% in this game.

DT isn't the problem. The problem is he's got nothing but walk-ons to throw to at WR with Chancellor out. That he will finish the season a higher completion % than last year despite the problems at WR show the opposite of what his detractors believe - he is a fine QB.

I like Derek Thompson as a QB and hope he stays and wins the job. I'd really like to see him have more than one bona fide receiver to throw to in a season.

DT has always had timing problems. The ball comes out too late and thats why our receivers get drilled after the catch. He does NOT go through progressions and telegraphs his throws therefore never seeing wide open receivers. Today, #1 was standing in the endzone wide open. DT is the largest problem on offense. The only way this team will win more than 5-6 games is with a good QB that makes plays.

  5. Alabama, K-State, do NOT rely heavily on JUCOS...that just isn't true.

Alabama has at least one Juco player that starts (Jesse Williams, #54) who will go in the first round in the NFL draft and there may be more as do other SEC schools. And yes, K-State does rely heavily on Juco players.

It seems like our most talented players come from either Juco or transfer, not HS.

  6. In all fairness to Mac and Chico, who own the plays being called on the field, who in the hell are you going to throw to down field? Between a QB who can't hit open receivers on 10 yard routes and no receiver over 5'9 who can actually get down field fast enough to be in the vicinity of a long throw, how is throwing down field even an option?

Andrew Power is 6'5" and is wide open on most of his routes as he was today. Sorry QB=Missed Opportunities

I've been to every game this year, home and away and losses in this game and the Troy game are definitely on the coaches. Coach Mac took a time-out home with him today. He folded the tent. No Question.

  7. DT has a timing problem as to when to get the ball out. Thats why so many of his passes are behind the receivers. His biggest problem is his inability to go through a progression to find the open receiver. I know the TE is the third read on some routes, but #1 Power, has been wide open all year and DT never sees him. Power is 6'5" and is a mismatch for LBs and CBs. It seems like a QB would be looking for mismatches to make plays.

  8. If he doesn/t win 6-7 by the end of year 4, then maybe, but not year 3.

We will have to recruit better talent and instead of getting the leftovers from the state of Texas, we need to look to other areas. Mac needs to recruit jucos to fill immediate needs. BB will be a big improvement over DT. The main problem is the talent level (recruiting).

  9. During the off season and preseason, all we heard from Mac was how much better DT was and how much he had improved from last year. We heard this over and over. Then the season starts. I believe that most coaches are very stubborn when it comes time to admit things didn't turn out like they thought they would. DT knows he can under perform and the job is still his. It makes me think that they would have to carry DT off the field on a stretcher before the other QBs will get a chance. How do you know how someone will perform in a game until you give them a chance? Its time to quit making excuses for DT. He is playing behind a very good OL. He has good receivers and good TEs. NO EXCUSES!

  10. Drew Miller has been decent in limited time and he came up huge last week but Tanner Smith just does not look ready to be an FBS TE yet IMO. I wish Power was more of a receiving threat though. I can't even imagine the type of difference an Andy Blount would make for this team in terms of opening up the run game through play action.

In order for Power to be more of a receiving threat, the ball needs to be thrown to him. Its on the play calling and DT. Power is open on most routes he runs, but DT doesn't see him especially if he is the 2nd or 3rd read.

  11. All the running backs had a good day, but J. Brown had one run that was highlight reel stuff. BTW, he has changed to #20.....you know, like Barry Sanders.

Interesting stuff at the scrimmage. Ryan Long (#67, DE from Leonard) who sat out last year with an injury, was making his presence known with the second team defense. He was frequently around the ball and frequently putting pressure on the QB.

The catch of the day was Teegarden. He caught a long ball on the sideline whilst wearing a DB.

#92 was out there frequently playing H-back and TE. He was quite a load and looked pretty impressive. For a long time I couldn't figure out who he was and someone told me it was Micah Thompson, who was originally recruited to play DT.

This is pretty crazy stuff. We put guys who are 6'4" X 307 at H-back and turn former DE's, who were/are the size of TE's into DT's.

#92 is Raymond Burks, who is around 6'1", 250. He walked on last year and has one year of eligibility left. Burks is playing H Back behind Drew Miller. Micah Thompson is #65 and is playing OL.

  12. WKU had a good game plan using Rainey the their TE to keep the chains moving. I think our Defense played about as well as they could with the personnel they had with the exception of some missed tackles here and there.

DT is getting better as time goes on. He has yet to go through his progression and makes reads to find open receivers. Most all of his throws are to his primary receiver and therefore often times there are other receivers open that he never sees. I would like to see him hit more receivers in stride with the result being more YAC. This is especially true with TE, Power. It seems that he is having to jump, twist or stretch to make the catch. The most reliable group (least amount of dropped passes) of receivers on the team are the TEs and RBs and I think this should be reflected in the play calling. It looks like we need an upgrade in WR coaching. There seems to be a disconnect between the WR coach and his players.

We are last in the Sunbelt in Red Zone scoring and it became very apparent why in the WKU game. The play calling in the red zone, especially within the 10 yard line has been awful. We have a big, fast, athletic TE that can be a valuable weapon in the red zone.

I wish Hamilton was staying one more year because I really like the way he runs and I think he is an underrated player and has been overshadowed.

  13. DO YOU GET IT NOW?

wKY's Jack Doyle, #82. 9 catches for 89 yards. He was that big bastard who kept catching and converting the third down and 5 or 6's over the middle all damn night long. They finished 9 for 16 on third down conversions. We finished 0-6.

I give huge props to their FIRST YEAR offensive coordinator Zachary Azzanni for the lesson he spooned out to us on how to use the tightend and calling an all around great game.

    Rick

Doyle is 1 inch taller than Power, weighs 10 pounds less and is not near as fast. Doyle has 46 receptions for 513 yards. WKU knows how to use the TE. Its not rocket science.

  14. The average college football fan has no idea how many scholarship football players are struggling just to get by. Its next to impossible for a football player to have a job during Fall and spring semesters. I know of a few that were able to get Summer jobs, but transportation is a problem for many of them.
