I'm really confused - help me guys, what did we win by being west division champions.
I guess a 3rd seed in the conference tournament for having the best record on the weakest side of five teams.
According to a few VB players, they only get a ring and the championship trophy by winning the overall regular season title - which went to WKU, or the team that wins the conference tournament next week..
So am i missing something - what did we just win, other then a 3rd seed heading into the conference tournament!
Maybe this seed will help WVB win the programs 1st conference championship ever in the Sunbelt...its really hard to believe after all of these years this sport has never held up the championship trophy at least once. Last chance in the belt to finally do this, lets make it happen and go out as champions! Good luck ladies.

BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONS
DENTON, Texas - The Mean Green soccer team won its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Championship and fifth all time as Western Kentucky tied Middle Tennessee 1-1 tonight in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
This is the seventh championship in North Texas soccer history comprising of five regular season titles and two conference tournament championships.
With the tie, Middle Tennessee reached 25 points in the final Sun Belt Conference standings putting them even with North Texas and FIU. Due to tiebreaking rules, the Mean Green wins the three-way draw and will be the number one seed in the conference tournament.
"When you lose only one game in conference play, you deserve to win the title and have the number one seed," said head coach John Hedlund. "Believe me, winning championships never gets old. They are all special."
The 2012 season proved to be a phenomonal year for the Mean Green soccer program. Coach Hedlund led his young unit to a 13-4-2 overall record that included games against ranked (at the time) teams such as Oklahoma State (7) and Long Beach State (16).
NT soccer's conference record was a nearly flawless 8-1-1 mark. The conference run included a benchmark victory in Denton over MTSU.
Senior forward Michelle Young was the catalyst for a potent North Texas offense throughout the season. She ranked first in the Sun Belt in shots and tied for second in goals coming into the final weekend.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine led the Sun Belt coming into the weekend in GAA in conference play at .86 and recorded 58 saves.
As a unit, NT soccer ranked first in goals (26), shots (195) and corner kicks (64) in the conference.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will being on Oct. 31 in Mobile, Ala., with the Mean Green positioned as the number one seed to begin the tournament.

We finished 2nd not first, will probably hurt our ranking considering the below average field in this tournament.

I'm also very excited about this game next Friday night, this is going to be an absolute war between two teams that really dont care for each other! I hope our young guns are up to the task.
Noticed in the latest NSCAA poll Baylor is ranked #23 in the nation and just whipped up on Nebraska tonight 3-0..out shot them 24-2. I'm sure Baylor's ranking will go up even higher before we play them. This is going to be a very physical match to say the least!
We need a huge crowd Friday night - lets go Mean Green Nation, support your undefeated soccer team!

"This roster will be completely different from last year's championship team, with 12 of our 24 players this year on our roster will be wearing the Mean Green uniform for the first time," said head coach John Hedlund. "Starting the year out playing perennial powers such as Oklahoma State, Long Beach State, Baylor, Houston and TCU in non-conference play should really prepare this very young team for the Sun Belt Conference during the second half of our season."
You have to respect that even though we will be pretty young this year due to just losing a great senior class, we still play a very competitive non-conference schedule.

In his six years at NT Coach Lama has an overall record of 74 - 58 with only two losing seasons and one conference title. Good luck next week in conference tournament play.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team takes its only road trip of the spring season this weekend, heading to Farmers Branch, Texas, Saturday to face reigning Sun Belt Champion North Texas in a friendly match.
The Aggies and Mean Green will face off at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ross Stewart Soccer Complex. Fans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are encouraged to attend the FREE match to see the two conference champions in action.
"I know a lot of our out-of-town fans are circling the date for our match vs. the University of North Texas up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area over Easter weekend," head coach G Guerrieri said. "This exhibition is being hosted by the Dallas International Girls Cup, which is run in coordination with the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup, one of the most prestigious international youth tournaments in the world.
"UNT is coming off a great 2011 season, where they won the Sun Belt Conference Championship," Guerrieri said. "Their coach, John Hedlund, is an old friend and former teammate from way back when we were kids growing up in the north Dallas area. And, as an added bonus, the site of the match in Farmers Branch is named after an Aggie and one of the greatest ambassadors of youth soccer in the United States in the 1970s, 80s and 90s - Mr. Ross Stewart.
"That UNT match will be our only road exhibition match of the spring season, so we are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our team and great players outside of Aggieland."
UNT won its fourth-ever Sun Belt Regular Season Title in 2011 with a 1-0 win over Denver. Junior defender Kelsey Hodges scored the game-winning goal from beyond midfield on a free kick. The Mean Green finished the season in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals with a 14-4-3 record and an 8-1-1 conference mark. Michelle Young led the team offensively in 2011, netting 13 goals, four of them game winners, and contributing three assists for 29 points. Jackie Kerestine spent 1785:30 in goal, grabbing 72 saves for 11 shutouts while giving up 14 goals.
The No. 21 (NSCAA Final) Aggies made their 17th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 after winning a 12th-and-final Big 12 title at the conference tournament. The team ended 2011 in the NCAA Second Round with a 16-6-2 record.
This spring, A&M is 2-0. All of the Aggies' spring matches are FREE to the public. To learn more about Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com or follow @AggieSoccer on Twitter.

Check out NT sitting in second for now. Soccer maxed out with 12pts by winning the conference and look for more sports to follow their lead. This is the year North Texas wins the All-Sports Award.
Unfortunately we slipped to third. WKU & MTSU picked up points on us this month in the latest sports.

Softball wins a doubleheader today against MTSU 10-2 and an 8-4 come from behind thriller.
Tennis wasn't so lucky today losing to unranked Wichita State 4-3.

They need a great showing against Tulsa on Friday to ensure they stay in the Top 40 range to gain a higher seed.
Tough loss, NT women lose to Tulsa 6-1. Really thought this match would be much closer.
Should beat up on Kanas today thou one of the worst teams in the Big 12 that has played a extremely weak schedule thus far.

I went top the S&D Championship last night and I saw more Denver fans than I've seen collectively since they've been in the conference.
Denver is good in every sport that they compete in. They're easily the best swimming team in the conference. We have several really good swimmers (and divers) also but not enough of them yet. We're probably doomed to another third place finish.
You called it - we finished third out of six teams. Lost out to Denver and WKU once again.
Ouch

Any news on spring games. Heard Baylor and Texas Tech are coming to town to play the SBC Champs but need dates!! Also heard we will be playing Texas A&M somewhere in Dallas this spring.

Looks like another strong signing class by Coach Hedlund and more conference championships to come. NT Womens Soccer is the one sport you can always count on to be on top year in and year out.

SFA's coach is in second year and has already completely turned the team around. Pretty impressive. Agree
Really thought this team would turn it around from last year's losing season. Still early but nevertheless a embarrassing loss at home to a Southland conference team.
-
Probably, but MTSU did just knock off the #6 team in the land the other night.
Agree. Unfortunately MTSU will probably steamroll the Belt and make a serious run in the NCAA Tournament MT coach has done a tremendous job with big wins but we do have them here...you never know, somehow Nicholls State pulled off the upset and beat us.

I believe we beat Troy last year by 20 on the road but any win is a good win even against a 1-12 Troy team.
