  1. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20120214/SPORTS/120214005/McCarney-still-hospitalized-confirms-stroke-but-sounds-cheery

“But tell everyone back there that I’m doing fine,” the former ISU head football coach said Tuesday from his bed in a Denton, Texas, hospital. “I’ve got too much Irish in me to stay down very long.”

“Nothing wrong with me that a little Grey Goose won’t cure.”

This is why we Cyclones loved and still love Dan. Glad to hear he's doing fine and will be back strong to work for the Mean Green.

  2. This was just tweeted by ISU Coach Bill Fennelly:

Please keep Dan McCarney in your thoughts and prayers after a recent stroke-no better people than he and his wife Margy!

Bill and Dan keep in very good contact so I would trust that the information is accurate coming from Bill.

  3. Don't we have a few money "opportunity" games at Iowa City in the next few years ? Seems like those just got a LOT more interesting.

Frankly, it would be more interesting if the games were in Ames against the Iowa State Cyclones. The University of Iowa Hawkeyes (Iowa City) are a classless fanbase thankfully your team will be compensated for going to that crap hole of a city.

  4. Certainly, I am willing to give him a chance. I hope he proves to be someone the kids love and the community as well. Let me know, is he someone who is apt to get out in the community to build the program? Your thoughts?

    Go Mean Green

Yes, Dan will sell/build up the program to anyone and everyone willing to listen. He is charismatic and people at ISU still really like him. If your fanbase gives him the chance he could be as well liked there as he is in Ames. He will give it his all no question.

  5. Have not verified recently, but have heard that 30+% of the B12 rosters made up of Texas kids. Someone with lots of time on their hands please verify? When it comes to OU, historically close to 50+% of their starters are Texans and even higher in terms of All Americans. Okie State is closing in on same percentages. Texas HSs typically provide 330 to 370 D1scholarship FB players a year. If not for Texas FB talent, Oklahoma would have to focus on wrestling and other minor sports.

Here are the percentages ranked high to low based of the total number (Texas/All) listed on the respective athletic department 2010 roster:

    94% - Texas

    88% - Texas A&M

    88% - Baylor

    81% - Texas Tech

    52% - Oklahoma State

    47% - Oklahoma

    34% - Kansas

    25% - Missouri

    16% - Iowa State

    16% - Nebraska

    11% - Kansas State

    5% - Colorado
