  1. I would listen to this podcast.  Toward end of realignment talk, CSU mentions central time zone teams potentially being added to MWC.  Wouldn't get full share until new TV deal and then would be full members.  I'd think UNT would be on short list for that.

  2. I was told that it was for personal and family reasons. Moving back to Oklahoma to work in the family business for awhile and spend more time with wife and kids. Understandable...being a D1 HC in any sport can be a stressful and very time consuming endeavor.

Coach Hubbard did a good job in moving the program forward, and has laid a great foundation for UNT's next HC.

If that's the case, I'm happy for him. I was hoping it wasn't health issues or something along those lines. I agree he laid a good foundation and the program is in good shape.

  3. I wonder what real story is. I know he wasn't most popular guy with local club teams (they never felt like he took enough local kids - but his job is to win and not just take local kids) but he did an adequate job with the program. UNT should be able to get a good coach. Great local talent base and only one other division one program in area (SMU and TCU don't field teams).

  4. SMU is going to be pretty stout

A lot of people laughed at SMU for hiring Larry Brown but it might actually work for SMU (not that they'll be a player on the national level but at least they won't be the bottom of the barrel team they've been for last decade).

  5. C-USA: Welcoming schools from the WAC, Sun Belt, FCS (Old Dominion is considered part of the TV package this year, even though they are a transitioning school)...its a melting pot. FOX Sports is the primary C-USA television partner, with games expected to air on FOX Sports 1 and FSN. I know that FSN isn't in every market, particularly those Old Dominion fans, so keep an eye out on that and hope that most C-USA games air on FOX Sports 1. CBS Sports Network also has a contract with the conference for at least 15 football games. There are also some regional games airing on CSS, Comcast SportsNet Houston and probably some other cable based RSNs in the conference's footprint.

If previous seasons are an indicator, some kickoff times will be set before the season starts. CBS Sports Network and the regional partners were usually firm in setting their times in advance, while FOX Sports was more flexible with their Saturday times as they were scheduling games around Big 12 and Pac-12 games.

  6. Very depressing to read...

Winning the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Award in 2012, Tony Mitchell was touted as one of the best low-major prospects in the country. With his sophomore season coming to a close, where does Mitchell stand heading towards the 2013 draft?

The offensive end is where Mitchell's regression this season was most pronounced, and the reasons why become fairly evident early in most possessions, as Mitchell is often content to stand and wait on the perimeter, not moving much without the ball and spending far less time trying to get open in the painted area. North Texas’ team chemistry was obviously extremely poor this season, as it appeared that the team gave up on competing at a very early stage, which Mitchell played a major part of.

Jump shots accounted for roughly one half of Mitchell's half-court shot attempts this season according to Synergy Sports Technology (compared to a much more reasonable one third last season), but more concerning is his points per possession on those jumpers nose-dived from a very strong 1.153 last year to a very weak 0.754 this year. Mitchell is taking more jump shots of higher difficulty this season and seems to be less focused on consistently using good mechanics in all situations, and it's caused him to become a far less effective and efficient player overall.

    Lots more depressing stuff...

  7. From Andy Katz....

    3. Conference USA will play a 16-game schedule next season with 16 teams. That means each team will play one rival twice and play the other 14 schools one time. The set partners will be divided along regional/geographic divisions. The likely pairings could be: Tulane-Louisiana Tech; FAU-FIU; UAB-Southern Miss; Rice-UTEP; North Texas-UTSA; ODU-Marshall; Tulsa-Middle Tennessee State; Charlotte-East Carolina. Of course, you could move a few of these around that might make a bit more sense. Overall, this league is likely going to be 16 teams vying for one bid in 2014. Tulane will move to the Big East in 2014-15 while East Carolina is scheduled to do the same in football only.

  8. From Andy Katz...

    3. The remaining Big East athletic directors will meet in Dallas on Jan. 11 to discuss their latest moves, including the update on the television negotiations. Tulsa and UMass have been discussed as possible additions if the Big East decides to expand, according to multiple sources. Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around. Meanwhile, the Mountain West expects to move on San Diego State by the end of this week, according to a league source. The MWC has to decide if it will go to 12 or 14. The MWC has interest in SMU and Houston, but SMU has let it be known to the MWC it has no interest as the Mustangs and Cougars are set to go to the Big East. UTEP desperately wants to be in the MWC, according to a source, and is on the MWC list. BYU is the first choice for the MWC but at this juncture the Cougars want to remain independent in football, WCC in other sports.

  9. I like how half the listings on ESPN3 are blacked out on ESPN3.

Nothing new, but it seems like more than ever...by a large margin.

ESPN is blacking out games that are on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU that are ESPN3. To view those games online you must have a cable company that uses watchESPN (I know FIOS and Time Warner do). After you log in using you cable credentials you can watch the game. They don't want people using ESPN3 instead of subscribing to cable to watch games.

  10. Will it be on espn 3?

I didn't see it on the watchespn.com for upcoming games. That's a little bit of a surprise. I thought all the ACC games were supposed to be on ESPN3.

KENPOM has Virginia winning 64-57. Hopefully we can spring the upset to make up for our disaster in Manhattan.
