  1. I would listen to this podcast. Toward end of realignment talk, CSU mentions central time zone teams potentially being added to MWC. Wouldn't get full share until new TV deal and then would be full members. I'd think UNT would be on short list for that. https://anchor.fm/ramnation-radio/episodes/Athletic-Director-Joe-Parker-joins-to-talk-about-the-recent-flirtation-with-the-AAC-and-much-more-e18adcb
  2. I just think it's hard to find out information on how a coaching search for non-revenue sports is going. I'd think they would have somebody by the time school starts.
  3. Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA2m Flip Saunders worked out Mitchell on his visit to Minnesota and left impressed, sources tell Y! Make no mistake: He has high-lottery gifts. Details Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA6m Some are shying away from North Texas forward Tony Mitchell, but he could find a landing spot w/ Minnesota at No. 26, league sources tell Y! Details
  4. If that's the case, I'm happy for him. I was hoping it wasn't health issues or something along those lines. I agree he laid a good foundation and the program is in good shape.
  5. I wonder what real story is. I know he wasn't most popular guy with local club teams (they never felt like he took enough local kids - but his job is to win and not just take local kids) but he did an adequate job with the program. UNT should be able to get a good coach. Great local talent base and only one other division one program in area (SMU and TCU don't field teams).
  6. With the CUSA TV deal we might get (or have) to watch North Texas play on this floor. But if somebody goes to the game they can go sit in the Cabanas. http://www.lostlettermen.com/fiu-getting-new-beach-hoops-court/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  7. A lot of people laughed at SMU for hiring Larry Brown but it might actually work for SMU (not that they'll be a player on the national level but at least they won't be the bottom of the barrel team they've been for last decade).
  8. 2 pm press conference to announce the hire. Nice hire for Texas St. From Twitter... Jeff Borzello ‏@jeffborzello4m Texas State is announcing its new head coach at 2 p.m. It's going to be Stephen F. Austin's Danny Kaspar.
  9. C-USA: Welcoming schools from the WAC, Sun Belt, FCS (Old Dominion is considered part of the TV package this year, even though they are a transitioning school)...its a melting pot. FOX Sports is the primary C-USA television partner, with games expected to air on FOX Sports 1 and FSN. I know that FSN isn't in every market, particularly those Old Dominion fans, so keep an eye out on that and hope that most C-USA games air on FOX Sports 1. CBS Sports Network also has a contract with the conference for at least 15 football games. There are also some regional games airing on CSS, Comcast SportsNet Houston and probably some other cable based RSNs in the conference's footprint. If previous seasons are an indicator, some kickoff times will be set before the season starts. CBS Sports Network and the regional partners were usually firm in setting their times in advance, while FOX Sports was more flexible with their Saturday times as they were scheduling games around Big 12 and Pac-12 games. 10. Tasty - I totally forgot about that UTSA win. Last time a non-Memphis CUSA team won was 2005 when Louisville, Cincy and UAB won games. Thought for awhile I might have to go back to Self's Elite 8 run at Tulsa.
  11. With Memphis leaving who has the last NCAA tourney win of the teams that will be in CUSA next year. I'm sure it's obvious but I'm too tired to think.
  12. Very depressing to read... Winning the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Award in 2012, Tony Mitchell was touted as one of the best low-major prospects in the country. With his sophomore season coming to a close, where does Mitchell stand heading towards the 2013 draft? The offensive end is where Mitchell's regression this season was most pronounced, and the reasons why become fairly evident early in most possessions, as Mitchell is often content to stand and wait on the perimeter, not moving much without the ball and spending far less time trying to get open in the painted area. North Texas’ team chemistry was obviously extremely poor this season, as it appeared that the team gave up on competing at a very early stage, which Mitchell played a major part of. Jump shots accounted for roughly one half of Mitchell's half-court shot attempts this season according to Synergy Sports Technology (compared to a much more reasonable one third last season), but more concerning is his points per possession on those jumpers nose-dived from a very strong 1.153 last year to a very weak 0.754 this year. Mitchell is taking more jump shots of higher difficulty this season and seems to be less focused on consistently using good mechanics in all situations, and it's caused him to become a far less effective and efficient player overall. Lots more depressing stuff... From DraftExpress.comhttp://www.draftexpress.com#ixzz2NctrvT6j http://www.draftexpress.com
  13. From Andy Katz.... 3. Conference USA will play a 16-game schedule next season with 16 teams. That means each team will play one rival twice and play the other 14 schools one time. The set partners will be divided along regional/geographic divisions. The likely pairings could be: Tulane-Louisiana Tech; FAU-FIU; UAB-Southern Miss; Rice-UTEP; North Texas-UTSA; ODU-Marshall; Tulsa-Middle Tennessee State; Charlotte-East Carolina. Of course, you could move a few of these around that might make a bit more sense. Overall, this league is likely going to be 16 teams vying for one bid in 2014. Tulane will move to the Big East in 2014-15 while East Carolina is scheduled to do the same in football only.
  14. From Andy Katz... 3. The remaining Big East athletic directors will meet in Dallas on Jan. 11 to discuss their latest moves, including the update on the television negotiations. Tulsa and UMass have been discussed as possible additions if the Big East decides to expand, according to multiple sources. Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around. Meanwhile, the Mountain West expects to move on San Diego State by the end of this week, according to a league source. The MWC has to decide if it will go to 12 or 14. The MWC has interest in SMU and Houston, but SMU has let it be known to the MWC it has no interest as the Mustangs and Cougars are set to go to the Big East. UTEP desperately wants to be in the MWC, according to a source, and is on the MWC list. BYU is the first choice for the MWC but at this juncture the Cougars want to remain independent in football, WCC in other sports. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/71927/3-point-shot-florida-without-erik-murphy
  15. Interesting comment from Fran Fraschilla (who was finalist for the job but is still working for ESPN). He was at the game last night: Fran Fraschilla ‏@franfraschilla UNT's Tony Mitchell struggled last night. Ganged up on in low post and didn't look in shape. Not same guy I (and NBA scouts)saw at LeBron's.
  16. Ugh. SLU drives for wide open layup to go up by two. North Texas goes down gets off balance shot at hoop. Tie up goes to SLU and they hit two FTs. Basically ended game. Those two possessions sum up UNT season.
  17. Thanks for link. Down 2 with a minute to go. Let's hope we can pull this out. This could turn around the year (maybe/hopefully)
  18. Very hard to win when you let your opponent hit 50% of their shots (esp when they go 9 of 18 from 3 pt range).
  19. La-La 75 North Texas 71. This is going to be a bad, bad loss. Not a good start to the conference season. Had several chances to tie and couldn't hit the shots.
  20. After made 3 pointer, UNT went foul (which led to 2 made FTs), turnover and give up 3 points. Not a good minute.
  21. ESPN is blacking out games that are on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU that are ESPN3. To view those games online you must have a cable company that uses watchESPN (I know FIOS and Time Warner do). After you log in using you cable credentials you can watch the game. They don't want people using ESPN3 instead of subscribing to cable to watch games.
  22. I didn't see it on the watchespn.com for upcoming games. That's a little bit of a surprise. I thought all the ACC games were supposed to be on ESPN3. KENPOM has Virginia winning 64-57. Hopefully we can spring the upset to make up for our disaster in Manhattan.
  23. St. Louis is on TV again tonight (8:30 I think). But this time they'll get a much tougher challenge with Kansas.
