  1. Coach wasn't hired to be a politician. He was hired to compete successfully in the SBC. He does that.

Personally, I wish he would keep the comments to himself but I can't really blame him. Some really nasty things were said about Coach Dickey on this board and in the stands. Coach, his family, and his players hear this crap and it does hurt. Every head coach expects criticism. Criticism is appropriate. What's not appropriate are the jackass personal comments and the name-calling. This has been going on since Dickey was hired. I suspect it's getting a bit old.

  2. "a coach with an 8-25 record would have simply been let go.... (he was actually 8-30"

Speaking of a double standard. Stebo, you want coach to forget about the bad times and yet you use every opportunity to point out UNT's record during his first 38 games. Maybe after you let by-gones be by-gones coach will too.

    God bless (North) Texas!

  3. "... it doesn't mean we have to automatically jump to defending them when they could be guilty."

Once more with feeling, just because a person 'could' be guilty doesn't mean they are guilty. You're not obligated to jump to their defense but, in all fairness, let's not jump to the conclusion they are guilty of something other than being in a stupid place at a dumb time.

    God bless Texas!

  4. Lots of good stories about UNT grads. The mayor of Palacios (where I live) told me he graduated from NTSU with a degree in Education. He attributes a long successful career to preparation from NT.

    God bless Texas!

  5. It's still a bit early to tell. The governor still may veto bills, including some impacting higher education. He may also call a special session, though it probably won't target higher ed.

Most universities are happy with the new freedom to raise tuition and most are saying that perk will make up for most of the budget cuts. Faculty and staff positions at most universities now seem safe, at least on the main campuses. What may not be safe is health care and other perks for teaching & research assistants and other part-time staff. Each university will deal with that issue in its own way. Another threat is to special items, which I assume includes UNT's Dallas campus.

Hopefully, the university will put out a summary of legislative impacts soon after the governor and the comptroller are finished.

    God bless Texas!

  6. Damn I'm sorry to read this. The two biggest reasons I had to return to Denton were UNT football and Steve's BBQ.

Steve is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I had the pleasure of teaching his son when he took undergrad biology labs as a pre-med. Nice kid, great family. Mrs. Logan's sweet-potatoe pies are best I've ever eaten.

    God bless Texas!

Proud of the SAT scores of UNT undergraduates? TAMS students average over 1400 on the SAT. If we lose this program UNT slips towards mediocrity.

Proud of the cultural diversity of UNT? TAMS brings students of all races and economic backgrounds to our campus.

Proud of the uniqueness of the UNT academic experience? TAMS is the only program of its kind in Texas.

What are you willing to do to save this program?

    God bless Texas!

  8. You're right it is too early to say for sure. Each university has been asked to submit a 2003-2005 GR budget that is 12.5% below their current funding. This may mean 200-300 faculty positions at UNT may be lost. Two other scarey things so far:

    1) TAMS may be unfunded.

    2) Governor Perry has suggested that a large ammount of money can be had by not funding higher education 'special projects'. UNT has a number of these items that may be lost.

    God bless Texas
