  1. I have watched many a game on espn360.com. Usually a pretty good feed. This last month they started charging 4.99 per month. Still a good deal. But the new espn+ is crappy. only had a good picture for 1st qtr. Constant freezing and scrambling..I will cancel immediately after this game. I sure hope Nasa isn't using any feeds from espn !!!!!

  2. The real question isn't "What if we hadn't thrown the interceptions?"...turning into UT scores....The question as I see it is.... "what if we threw no interceptions...and maybe still completed NO passes...just ran the ball-punt-etc and kept Texas on their end of the field. (best as possible)" Hmmm...??The Texas O didnt slaughter anybody last night.....In my selective memory, only 3 big runs...the rest chipped away at us with passes that our own offense couldnt execute. Our defense was remarkable for a first game. Some really good goal line work. Forced alot more 3&outs than I would have expected..although a few missed tackles....some really good hits!! And although Ash doesnt have a great arm either...He's adequate..and our DB's were fast enough that we took away the long ball.We have some good depth now at RB and decent depth on Defense with alot to look forward to. In my judgement....We had a great 1st half (except passing)....The defense was on the field way tooooo often and In the second half too long....tooooo tired !! 2 of the Texas tds came on 4th down gambles...barely getting in. AND A GREAT BIG SALUTE TO THE PUNTER...GREAT JOB !!..cool under pressure.

  3. Still perplexed and a bit pissed....here are a few assholey sarcastic remarks I screamed at my radio last nite....just before I slung it by the cord across the road into traffic.

    1. Why use 5+ pds per carry (Jimmerson) all over the damn field when you can run 1-2 yds up the middle over and over and over ....

    2. We cant use the shuttle pass up the middle anymore....no that's been seen once and can never ever be used again......lets use that ever so dependable never before seen overthrown pass.....that'l get em.

    3. Did the defense travel with the team this week ??

    4. Why be soooo half-assed with our tackling again tonite....just go ahead and miss alllllll of them.

    5. Woweeee, we held them to only 2 punts !!!

    I know..I'm a hater

  4. After watching 3 games....I'm thoroughly impressed with our offensive line !!! Very well coached ...dont give away plays with their splits.....far as I can remember...no illegal proceedure flags,....no holding calls......and best of all, NO SACKS !!!! We had a great line back in the Cobb and Thomas days.....but these guys are already solid and we'll have them around for a long time.

  5. I have no intention of trying to insult anyone specific on this forum. However, it is always a byproduct of actually telling the truth. And the truth is...... You guys would be just fine with a "quitter" from another school that would COME TO UNT. ESPECIALLY if said player was the integrel part of a winning team. I wish I could see all those posts now about how glad we were that Tyler Stratford had left OU. THAT seemed to be ok with everybody. In the future...will you be rejecting tranfers because of their obvious lack of integrity...why would we want them on OUR field ??? After all, they committed one time to somebody..and since that didnt work out...due to health, finacial aid, coaching changes,etc...that all wont matter ! They should just quit and give up their sport all together. Aw HELL NO, dont come to THIS school.....We'd rather you just quit and shrink into nothingness than to try and make the best of it. How dare you as a player..try to transfer and actually play...when you can stay here and ride the bench just so you wont be called "Quitter". Kids, Riley, who ta hell ever !!!! I've been there......go where you can play...for as long as you can play !!! You haven't let ANYBODY down. And if you did...they'll have to just get over it and move on to another kid to berate.

  6. I believe it was actually Abe Lincoln who coined the phrase: "You can't keep all the people happy all the time?"

Don't many of us remember the UT tree-huggers in Austin back in the 60's and 70's who were just as vociferous?

I think Denia citizens are a bit too late to be upset now and........how many of em' will have $10 up close parking signs in their yards on Game Day is a question many probably have, too; and if they do--more power to them 'cause it wouldn't bother most of us and would probably change a few of their minds about Game Day, too.

    GMG!

I would love to see this play out in Norman, OK. That is a town that has great traffic cooperation getting people to the stadium but absolutley NONE getting them away from the stadium. Thru the years I have t/w several folks who actually live in Norman and I have asked them about the gameday traffic issues. Everyone of them have responded that although a bad prob after the game......all the positives greatly outweigh that one negative. The town/fans/business community are in love with the events, school, team, etc. I'd go out on a limb here and say if this "Denia" attitude were to take hold in Norman......there would be a massive red march to the complaining neighborhood and probably down to the local paper too and set things RIGHT !!! Denia residents, you need to take your noses out of the air and get your finger out of your butts !!!
  7. I'd love for UNT to become the kind of school that could HAVE an "attitude" if it wanted. I do not like attitude..(i.e. SMU). But I'd give anything if we could consistently improve and be steady force on all levels...so that when a Denton kid thought he was too "up and coming" for UNT....then go ahead and leave, play somewhere else if he can. And then later come to regret it cause he learns he actually missed out. I want car loads to drive by the stadium on game day and wish they were there with us. Kids leave Denton because they "envy" others on other campuses. I want them all "Green With Envy".....

  8. I'm amazed how well we did given the late change.

But didn't we have THREE quarterbacks carted off the field on stretchers this year?

I may be wrong but 2 of the injuries were just friekish. Tune smashed in the pocket, was possibly as much of a coverage sack as a DL jailbreak sack, Thompson was escaping the pocket and on the run (I believe), Dodge also on a running play. Except for Tune, I personally cant attribute the other injuries to sloppy line play. BUT even if I could attribute these injuries to lazy/ inept line play.....although critical injuries, it was very few compared to apprx 1000+ plays. But I'm willing to stand corrected ! To have a losing season and still have a back run for 1550 yds is remarkable.

  9. The offense is the last of our worries. As I have asked before, who would Canales bring in as DC if he wins the job.

    Rick

With all the injuries, I cant keep up with who is so critical in our def secondary (that is missing.) But we have not had anyone is 2-3 yrs that can handle real speed @ receivers anyway...and when they do keep up, they set a new low for tackling. Hell man !! We used to knock jawbones loose and cause recvrs to stain their pants !! This last year or two, our d-backs have been slow to know where tha damn ball is. It's already caught and advanced before we seem to know the QB ever let go of it yet !!!!! This has been a trend, regardless of who the players are, so I've got to believe there's more than one coaching deficiency (defensive). I feel really bad for those players..BUT. It's pass after pass...on and on and on. Where have you gone Jonas Buckles and Don Magee ??? I'm ready for my new seat in my new stadium with my new coach (whomever)my new season and an entirely new DEFENSE. At least by strategy !!

  10. Why are so many on this forum willing to give Canales a chance ONLY if he wins out, beats K-State, etc. So if he doesnt win out, (probably wont), my question would be: which of your USDA Prime Hero All-World dream coaches could keep our buick rolling with as many back ups as Canales has done? Maybe all of them...maybe none. I see alot of homework done by alot of knowledgeable fans on this forum. Seems to me that the info would be out there on any other coaches that have gone thru this (loss of players) and turned it around to YOUR liking. I would want to know if ANY big name coaches have ever lost +50% of their starters and kept it all afloat. If this is not the standard for all candidates, why does it seem to be the ONLY standard for Chico. Canales has basically taken our broken down Buick and gotten it back on the road and at least gotten it rolling in "drive" instead of "reverse", puking all the fluids out, smoke billowing out, fenders missing, etc. I am not a Canales ONLY guy. I doubt Chico will get the final nod under the very best of circumstances anyway. The yardstick should be the same for all considered. I AM waiting on the the perfect clone of Fry/Fran/Levett/Stallings/et al to get hired so we can finally get all the man-love drool mopped up before the next opener !! End of the season or not, we are on bald tires people....and going uphill with no gas !!!! Freddie Kitchens...where are you ???

  11. Football Weenie ??? I cant claim it as mine...wish I could....funniest phrase EVER posted ! That being said, maybe we shouldnt audition the guy with the biggest name. We need to find the guy with the biggest FOOTBALL WEENIE !! And if we can't get HIM....then lets get the guy that has one that will last 4 quarters !!!!

  12. There is a big difference between being able to identify talent and the ability to sign those athletes. NT by virtue of it's history, conference, and current performance is just not going to sign many identified primo athletes. There are two elements in the recruiting wars, beating out similar and sightly better competition for athletes and the ability to identify borderline prospects that there is little competition for that have fb talent.

Dodge's first year recruiting was horrible in hind sight, but he signed a great number of All everything type athletes. The problem though they were good high school athletes, they didn't have college level ability. I thought Dodge second year was one of the best recruiting years NT has had, he actually signed a number of athletes that had other opportunities. The last two years, Dodge and staff have basically had to fight over the leftovers of recruits, being basically non-competitive against Texas fb competition. Note, the relatively large number of out of state players. Yes, there are a few exceptions but in general, Dodge and staff got borderline athletics and took too many chances on the academically challenged.

I still do wonder why many of you continue to pound on Riley. A player that gives everything and has had a fair measure of success. He may not be strong enough to stay away from injury but the kid has a hell of a heart.

Every coach makes recruiting mistakes and the lower the team is on the food chain, the more risks are usually taken. One thing that has surprised me about Dodge is his failure to recruit a number of QBs. This recruit one a year may be alright for a team with an established QB rotation, but makes no sense when the team has no established hierarchy of QB's. He has also failed more often than not, with high school receivers; a position that should be easy for him to recruit.

Discussing Dodge's recruiting now is probably totally counter productive. Hopefully, NT hires a coach that can create enough excitement to quickly upgrade recruiting. You have to give Dodge and staff some credit, I think they have really worked hard at recruiting; but it hard to out recruit your record and conference. There is no reason that NT should not out recruit the other Belt teams and be able to compete with the bottom half of the Texas teams, but it is not going to be easy. You generally have to win to recruit well, and to win you have to have talent. The new coach because of the lack of depth is probably going to have to continue to hit the jucos hard and slowing reduce the reliance on transfers.

You make some excellent points !!!! I have a question for all the Dodge haters....since he never measured up to your expectations....what are you gonna say if he ever comes back as an opposing coach and beats us ???? Will he be good enough, smart enough, talent savvy enough, then ???? Coach Dodge, I wish you well. Thank for your efforts !!! I hope you prove all these guys wrong....just dont beat us doing it !!

  13. I'm a loyal Dodge fan and I will make absolutely no apologies for that !!!! IF we cut him off mid-stroke, we will be straddling a barbed-wire fence...either way we go we'll snag the goodies. If we wait till December, the next coach will have a very poor (short) recruiting season...just like what we gave Dodge to begin with. The shelves are better stocked this round than what Dickey left behind. BUT, time is a big factor for a school like ours competing w/ SMU,TCU,A&M, etc. To fire Dodge immediately...would possibly start RV's phone ringing !! Is there a coach out there who's ready now ??? Is he already being talked to via the Batphone ??? And not just him, but are there any assistants and their families ready to quit jobs, move kids, etc just to come to UNT. I doubt anyone is foaming at the mouth to get HERE ! I 'd be surprised if there's a termination before the next to last game. (But I'm usually wrong).

  14. Look pal, we had at least 8 Roman candles on the sideline with injuries. Several more bottle rockets and sparklers didn't even suit up. Give em a break.

Now that's funny !!!! Along with the cannon (that now only has the opportunity to fire at the change of the qtr) poor thaaaang !

  15. I could not agree with this post more.

If you look at this season for what it is, it is the stuff that movies are made out of because of the pain and tribulations that everyone in this program has gone through....

Nobody can be happy with the record of our football team, but in the past couple of days I have never been more proud to wear my school letters and support our football team. Let the chips fall where they may at the end of the season, but for me, it is no longer about the wins, loses, or who the next coach might be, it is about being proud of a group of guys that have faced so much diversity this season. This team might go 1-11, but I couldnt be more proud of them if they were 11-1.

  16. Now I sit me down to weep

I pray the Lord I can get some sleep.

I'm jumpy and jerky, my nerves are shot,

We need to S%*# or get off the pot.

Sometimes we've lost before we play,

I pray we kick some ass today.

No dumbass penalties, No broken bones,

    I'd be happy right now,

To "keep up with the Jones"

If we get up to the line,

    Still dont know the call,

    I'm throwing this damn radio

    Right thru the wall.......

May God bless us, One and all.

  17. Oldschoollefty has the right idea.......we (our team) is in this fight...the opponent has bloodied our nose, cut our lip, and kicked us in the nuts !!! We can start crying and run back inside and hug our momma's leg. OR we can get a few licks in ourselves. May be a sucky year, but I wanna go down swinging......Decisions are being made in a panic mode....in some cases there are probably NO choices. We want our team to play like Air Force played @ OU.......We need to do the same as fans....Sit down, shut up, grind it out with the team. I'm all in !!
