I was told it was 4-5 players tops, and the amount was < than 10K. Just look at the captains from last year and it might give your an indicator. I expect this staff to operate differently and try to do more if resources are made available.

There were around 30 players last season who were a part of the collective in its first operational year. The obvious goal is to fund and help it grow well to beyond that capacity.

The only one that I know of that received NIL money that mentioned the amount was (I believe) KD Davis who received a little more than $8,000 last year.  Don't depend on the Light the Tower Collective to give out information.

KD Davis received substantially more NIL monies than $8K, and around 30 total football players were a part of the Light the Tower Collective last season.

And won’t until fall ball, wanted to recover fully and be ready for the summer workouts.

Exactly. This seems to be the historic pattern for Shorter. No spring ball, and then work through the summer to get ready for fall camp. Excited to see what he, Trey Cleveland, Maclin, Horton, and Burns can do in this offense!

Bill Connelly's put out his current SP+ Rankings for 2023

    https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/35651872/2023-college-football-rankings-every-team

Way too early and absolutely meaningless, but fun to look at nonetheless.

    NT comes in at #84.

6 schools on the schedule ranked below us with ACU not ranked

Non-conference schedule gives us an opportunity to start 4-0 for the first time since 2018. If we can go .500 or better in conference play, that’ll give us 8-9 regular season wins and should generate a heck of a lot of excitement in Mean Green Nation!

Any update on Carroll and Brown?  I think they have both graduated but still have eligibility to use.  Any idea if they are returning?

Also, are there any other surprises in store regarding returning players, etc?

It looks like we shouldn't plan on them (Brown & Carroll) playing this season.

FORT WORTH – In her son’s first year at Bonham High School, Cynthia Gorden asked coaches what it would take for Jacob to get recruited to play college football.

Their response, she recalled, was clear: Play well, trust the process, and he’d be taken care of.

Four years later, Cynthia and Jacob are at North Crowley High School on a cold January night, about 100 miles from Bonham, to attend a showcase for unsigned seniors. Over 30 small colleges and junior colleges have shown up. Over 100 kids have come, hoping to show out before National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Cynthia, sitting in a folding chair with plenty of other parents, held a stack of business cards with Jacob’s stats as a running back, corner and kick returner, along with his GPA and SAT score. There’s also a smiling photo of him in his Bonham letterman jacket next to a quote: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

But a college football journey needs a path, and right now, Jacob doesn’t have one.

“It’s hard to even get answered,” Cynthia said. “It’s hard to get exposure. And we just have to keep faith.”

She’s far from the only parent who feels that way.

Introducing the college football transfer portal in 2018 has given players the freedom to change schools once without penalty, and it’s allowed teams to fill their rosters with experienced players, decreasing the number of spots available for high school recruits, according to data compiled by The Dallas Morning News. They end up sliding down the college football hierarchy, landing at FCS schools or junior colleges or not playing at all.

“The landscape has changed,” North Crowley head coach Ray Gates said.

    Excellent article.

I was impressed by his run blocking. He is not afraid to get in a 3 point stance and block down on a LB or DE. I liked the effort he was giving on runs that were several yards down field. He was still sprinting downfield looking to make a block. His pass blocking was not bad against the small DEs he was facing. I imagine he will need a year in the weight room to add strength for blocking FBS DL. Overall, I think he has a lot of potential. This is a good pickup for 2-3 years down the road.

One other note, the RB he was opening up holes for is a highly ranked prospect in 24.  Bryan Jackson, averaged 128 yards a game and 2 TDs. I see his top 6 schools are OU, Michigan, UT, USC, Tennessee, and Baylor. We recently offered Bryan as well.

Excellent insight. I heard from a HS coach (who is very familiar with McKinney's program) that Magiya has only played football for 2 seasons and he has a ridiculous amount of upside. McKinney has a lot of talent on their roster in the '24 and '25 classes as well.

Understand, but the group doing this is paying for all walk-ons even before they know who they are. So how does this become NIL if you don't even know who the person is before you commit to a deal with them? In theory, boosters could pay for 10-20 players who would normally get scholarships, and leave scholarship spots available.

Absolutely. It's very simple for the BYU Collective (NIL) to handle this. They have the funds available to pay the players for the full cost of attendance for the entire roster (including walk ons), and those monies are allocated when the rosters are set for the fall & spring semesters.

It has to be. I doubt our 5th string RB pulled a scholarship offer from an SEC school

Adaway, Ayodei, Farrar, Jackson, Johnson, and Ragsdale are ahead of Landis, so he was technically 7th string. Can't blame him for trying another place.

I don't understand so many offensive linemen but we did lose a center so this offer makes sense.

We badly need to build quality depth at OL. We aren’t recruiting freshmen OL who are ready to play for the most part (typically most aren’t), so we need some immediate impact guys to help us while our youth develops.
