  1. It'd be nice. Time for us to earn some respect nationally.

With a strong, mature squad returning next year, perhaps it would behoove us to schedule some tougher OOC games, both to boost the ratings and challenge the team.

We played 12 OOC games this year: 9 D-I, 2 D-II, 1 NAIA. Against the D-I's, we went 6-3. Most of those victories turned out to be against pretty weak teams, based on rankings; even then, we had to squeak by against three inferior opponents (UTA, Rice, Tx Southern) and got beat by one (Boise State, although that was with a very bad travel schedule).

Here, in rank order, are the NCAA RPI rankings of our D-I OOCs, as of yesterday's games, and the outcomes of our games against them:

    Texas A&M: 12 (L, 75-65)

    Okie State: 29 (L, 82-68)

    Southeastern Louisiana: 194 (W, 71-61)

    Jackson State: 196 (W, 68-58)

    Boise State: 203 (L, 79-73)

    Texas Southern: 226 (W, 71-69)

    UTA: 235 (W, 101-99, 2OT)

    Rice: 311 (W, 64-62)

    Houston Baptist: 329 (W, 107-87)

There appears to be a huge dropoff in opponent quality between the top two and the rest. There's nobody in this list with a ranking close to ours, which is 101; they're either way higher or way lower. Might we benefit by testing ourselves a bit more before conference play begins next fall?

  2. First off, I had an awesome experience these past two days- made 2 ten hour bus rides worth it.

Second to the alum that was offended by the vulgarities in my cheering, I am sorry.

Third, I know Flyer took some last night... can anyone post some pics of last night? Would be awesome.

Hope to see everyone at the tourney game.... hoping for OKC... makes the drive from Vegas a lot easier.

  3. Let's start beating big name teams, in both football and basketball, and start making some noise in the tournament. Then people will figure our real school name out. People are ignorant by nature.

I don't think it should expand, but not because this F Face said so.

We have our chance right now to make the tourney. If they let more teams in, it would just add more disparity between the 1 and 90+ seeds. The likelihood of an upset would be incredibly slim.

Also, what seed would the SunBelt autobid conference winner get in that field?

That guy's a prick. I'd like to see our starters run a 10 deep train on his Eastern Washington Sheryl Swoops and start something big.

  4. Not to be a chauvenist (spelling?) or anything, but the three programs mentioned besides volleyball have improved since those hires. just sayin.

Male coaches for female sports are very common, but I am somewhat surprised that NT chose a man given their gender equity bend. If I am correct, Stephens is the only female hc at NT. Females having been replaced by men in tennis, swimming, softball and now volleyball.

  5. I would like to thank my chosen people for being so well versed in the entertainment industry

Night one starts at sundown. If any of you are interested in learning more about this holiday that so few in Denton celebrate (it took a lot to get a menorah in the Student Activities Office, which had a huge christmas tree) there is a menorah lighting in the West Village (Uptown Dallas) at 8 pm tomorrow. Free Food. Or ask me

  6. I thought this was by far the best played game of the year from the short-handed Green. Tremial and Odufuwu played with the big guys from A&M despite a very loosely called game on the inside. I think we really missed Hogans tonight. Holman has got to mature quickly because the front court subs are a current weakness of this team. Better 3 point shooting could have changed this game as could a healthy Mangrum or Johnson. White continues to play well. He gets some criticism on this board, but I don't think many are recognizing he is the focus of the opponents' defense. I fell better about this team than I have all year, hopefully they are beginning to come together. As an aside, Jim Haller is a great analyst on these games. He is fair and does his homework on both teams.

I was going to say that. Lots of positive comments about UNT from the announcers.

  7. Totally agree. As a student, sure I would like to see more home games because it gives me something to do in Denton. But if we ever want to be a great team rather than a decent one, we need to start scheduling better. It'll help us down the road in conference play. I dont care if the games are on the road. Screw this building confidence crap- this team needs to learn how to play up a level.

Jones has never beaten a quality opponent on the road. I think his only win over a decent team was at home over Okla State and they fired their coach at the end of that season. I'd rather beat some decent teams every once in awhile than win 20 games every year against NAIA schools.

  8. If there has been one thing thats upset me over the past two years as a student, its that Todd Dodge hasn't been able to motivate his players when positive things have come from the stadium process. I remember last year, after the hard fight with the stadium, Dodge couldn't even motivate his players and we laid a huge egg (I forgot who we were playing). This year, he couldn't motvate his players against ULM and Army. You would hope you would get a more inspired effort out of a coach- especially how so many students have criticized the need for a new stadium (which, thank god we are getting) with such monumental things that benefit primarily the football team.
