  1. I know for sure that Marcus King (from Euless Trinity) is gone; I think the other might be Evan Walker-I thought I saw somewhere he was leaving. It's unfortunate that King left for the reason he stated; wanting more playing time (left before the season started). He probably would have gotten that playing time here last year if he'd stayed. I don't believe Fentriss was part of that first recruiting class, but came here while still rehabbing from injury as a transfer.

I think, technically, it would be four total from that class. Wasn't Fentriss a semester transfer in 2007 and then sat out that season? That would put him as part of the 2007 class, like Stradford and other transfers with this class. So, Fentriss, Dibrell, Walker, King. Missing anyone?

  2. Lost a badly needed defensive guy to TTech, and gained ANOTHER wide receiver... from Nicholls State? I guess I should be more positive and look at the bigger picture. NT signs one more WR and we get the "Amazing Food-Chopper" thrown in for free! That's a $29.99 value!

    GMG!!!... <_<

This same post the past few weeks is a bunch of tired crap. To repeat, I'm pasting an earlier post (with update) that refutes assertions we have too many WRs and shouldn't keep signing them:

What is this plethora of WRs you speak of?

    Returnees by No. of catches:

    Lott

    Dickerson

    Roberson

    B. Johnson

    Redshirted/unknown commodity:

    Rucker

    Taylor

    Barrett

    Brigham

Jamel Jackson (special teams specialist injured, never played)

    Mid-year guys:

    Outlaw

Jamaal Jackson (damn, that could be confusing)

    Stradford (not until 2010)

    True freshman:

    Mayberry

Carey (don't know if he'll play WR or RB...or QB if things get unhinged there)

That's 13 available next season without Stradford and not many catches or much experience. If we get down to other walk-ons not even mentioned, we're in trouble. You seriously underestimate our level of need at this position, given our current predisposal towards attrition/injuries.

  3. How little does Dodge really understand the problem? Gleaning from the quotes in the articles, he answers it himself:

"I can't imagine why any player that sees 20 starts in his first two years would want to leave a school," coach Dodge said.

No? Gee, I wonder why, too. Oh, nevermind...here's the answer:

He said that he plans to make no changes his offensive strategy....

Yeah. The strategy that led to little pass protection, few bona fide receivers on the field, and decisions to kick field goals late in games we trailed by several touchdowns.

Reading Dodge and Villareal is like watching a child continually try to reach up onto the store or try to stick their fingers into electical outlets. It's just sad.

  4. 7 of whom will be back. Plus Rucker and a few who were redshirted: three, I think it was (Barrett, Brigham, Taylor). LY transfer Jamel Jackson. And we have the three mid-termers (2 JCs and the OU transfer). Add Mayberry. That would give us 16 plus walk-ons, unless somebody has left I don't know of.

Having 10 would be great. Having 12 would be ok. Having 16 plus is way too many considering needs in other areas. If we didn't other needs, who cares?

  5. You can't encourage them and you can't financially support them for one year unless you have the written permission of the original school. But you can talk to them about anything else any time they call or visit you.

You just contradicted yourself. That's called "contact" and the rule says it's prohibited without the release. You can't go out to lunch with the coach or hang at his house and pretend to talk about the Hamas-Israel war.

  6. Troy Dodge, er uh, Phillips, should reread the SAE article. Nowhere does it say the Vizza's are expecting Gio to obtain a new scholarship. How does he know if Vizza expects to pay for his first year at his new college? That could very well be the case.

I think he mentions that option in the blog. Pretty easy to assume their first preference is a scholarship at a new school, right?

  7. This contradicts what somebody else posted, that as long as the student or his family initiated contact with another school, it was permissible.

As far as whether he goes somewhere else, I wouldn't be worried. I'm sure some school out there could use a tough-as-nails QB with 2 years of 1-A experience.

The rule explicitly states it doesn't matter who initiated the contact. Other than "we can't speak to you without a release," it can't go any further. He's got to get the release, meet the coaches, maybe go through a workout, get a physical, get his academic paperwork sorted out; there's a million things that have to happen first, starting with the release before anything. There's some smoke being blown here, definitely.

  8. Again, the attempts to downplay Vizza's 2008 season are ridiculous. The poor 2008 season was the fualt of no one but the coaching staff. It's difficult to believe that a coaching staff could go through a sophomore slump after a 2-10 season, but this one found a way to do it.

Your drum needs a new lid, since you've banged a hole in it. Blah, blah, blah, Finchy, we get it after the 5,000th time. Dodge bad. Coaches bad. Players good but hamstrung 24-7 with bad coaching. Nothing was Vizza's fault. Every one of his 36 picks in two years were the fault of some outside force beyond his control. He beat WKU twice so he's a god. Look, I liked him as a QB, too, but he'll never be able to win anything with you hanging from his neck. I'm so relieved people like Mr. Vizza make sure you enlighten us daily.

    Vomit.

  9. Good for you and Vito. Hope you'll be happy together. His story gets in some national publications, and we just look like another program full of weed freaks and dumbasses. I'm glad you're so proud of his accomplishments. You should frame his story so you can cherish it forever. Some people on here obviously idolize him.

  10. I think he received that 2006 concussion in the game against Euless Trinity. Southlake won in the last minute or two on a Riley scramble, but I don't think he was fully aware of what was going on.

that rings a bell, Euless. something about him not remembering running for the winning TD or something. ended up in a pile with a bunch of Tongans piled on top of his noggin.

  11. He also went to the doctor that week and was sat down for nearly two weeks. He didn't practice the whole week, maybe one day. Ding to the head is not a medical diagnosis. The kid didn't get the full effect until they were back from Houston. He had a concussion in 2006 in a playoff game, so it's his second one. You guys are unreal.
