  1. This.

It's kind of a cancer awareness day at BC. A nice show of class from the ESPN crew to go up there.

Amen!!! Nice to see a network making a decision based on something other than just economics. Sure they came out just dandy financially but a nice add on story to the usual college FB hype.

  2. what's happened to cam???

10 carries for minus 1 yard

and he wasn't good at alabama either.

Bama Def Line (1st & 2nd string) = IMMOVABLE OBJECT. We ran the ball 19 times right at the IO. Our O Lineman must have had serious helmet rash on their backs from that playcalling strategy. No "thank you" notes to TD from O Line after Bame game.

  3. I think if Riley was playing it might be slightly different. He's a game changer. Tune looks like a scared little kid.

hey meangreengdub, how many interceptions did Tune throw? how many fumbles did Tune have? how many sacks did Tune give up? how many negative plays did Tune have? how many fumbled snaps did Tune have? the only series in the entire game where any creative plays were called resulted in a TD. From what I saw, Tune looked the #3 Team in the Country all day without blinking. So, please explain your basis for making such a rediculous, assinine, unfounded statement? I will give you a hint since you apparently did not watch the game. None, nada, zilch to all the above questions. Please refrain from posting if you do not have a clue as to what you are saying. Thank you.

  4. This is very sad news if true. To be so close to finishing his career. Life is not all about football as it comes and goes so quickly in the grand scheme of life. Having been in the business world in Dallas for almost 30 years, I know the value ex SMU athletes have in the business community. There are plenty of successful SMU alums in the local business world who love to hire one of their own (especially athletes). Having the label of "quitter" could and may lessen his career marketability. If anyone knows him or someone in his family, please do what you can to talk him out of this if not too late!! He needs to consider what his Father would want him to do. What his fan base would want him to do. This is a serious decision.

  5. Really? Did you ever look at the old website? It was crap. This is a thousand times better. And there is content that is interesting and relevant. The athletic dept is making a valid effot to communicate with fans and keep them informed.

Bitching over a wrinkled $100 bill gets so damn old.

Couldnt agree more 97and03! Well said!!

  6. Two great persons, an even greater couple, and leaders of UNT athletic progress. Congrats to two whom I am privileged to call friends.

I second that motion! Mr. Smith is a class individual and great ambassador for UNT in all respects!! Of course, us guys know that it takes a strong woman with character to help us look good. Thank you Mrs. Smith for your contributions!!

  7. Also, methinks being a great HS QB doesn't necessarily translate to being a good College QB any more than being a good College QB translates to being a worthwhile pro.

Case in point, did anyone watch Vince Young tonight? That poor guy is totally lost in the NFL and is showing no signs of getting a clue. Painful to watch.

  8. Gentlemen/UNT Supporters,

Allow me to clear the air on the Nathan Tune/QB situation as noted in this thread. I have known him for some time and feel confident in my credibility to respond. He IS a competitor and would not be investing his time and sweat if his mindset was anything less. Yes, he understands that Riley is much more accomplished coming out of HS, is a great athlete/QB, has spent the last 8+ years of his life learning the current version of TD's offense. Besides believing that he CAN play at this level, he is an unselfish teammate and pulls for all teammates alike regardless of position (dont think this makes him complacent by any means). Regardless of any QBs class, experience, all of them should be "making their move" every single day. If they are not, then they should unselfishly give up their position on the team for someone else with a competitive mindset. Saysojoe, if Chase is the best QB on the Team then time will prove it and I'm sure Nathan will support him as he would any other. I think all QBs realize that they are one or two plays away from being the starter. I think that realization motivates them. Hope you are all at ease now! GO MEAN GREEN!!

  9. With the event being held in the grassy area/field just north of the atletic complex, there was more area therefore the density of people looked less than in past on the veranda. By adding the 5K run, several jump houses/dunking booth and the band, it was obvious more planning and the desire for a larger event was intended. Now that the stadium is a reality vs. dream, momentum will certainly build. All we need now are 4-5 wins to feel that the UNT FB train is back on track! Rick and his staff are forging ahead with expectations of success. Currently, there are plenty of available seats on the aforementioned train so jump on and enjoy the ride!!

  10. Actually (IMHO) Scott Hall was blessed with a lot of arm strength. He lost some of the strength after he injured his arm in one of the final fall practices in 02. His arm hit Boogers helmet as it was coming down on the follow thru on a pass play. In his freshman year against Baylor I saw hime fire a 50 yard strike to Jeff Muenchow with little or no arc on the ball. If not for that injury and ineffective coaching.........who knows.

I've seen a lot of other good QB's at North Texas and my favorites were not necessarily the ones with the biggest raw numbers..and big arms. They were the ones who were confident athletes,....and confident leaders.

Jordan Case, Joe Stevenson, Greg Carter (all 5'9" of him), Scott Davis, Mitch Maher, and Scott Hall.

Our recording setting QB,Mitch Maher had a good arm, but it wasn't great. He had great vision, great confidence, and he placed the ball very well. He could move around very effectively, but he didn't have blazing speed. Oh, and for someone who was about 185lbs, he was pretty tough.

What I observed of Riley in the spring game was that he was a confident athlete, and that he could place the ball pretty well. To me, the real test will come when he's being put under pressure by the other team, and how much poise he shows in those situations.

The most effective gunfighters in the old west were not the ones with the fastest draw. They were the ones who never flenched under fire, and they were the ones who got more focused when the fight started.

So, IMHO Riley will start. But if Chase Baine works real hard in the off season.........who knows.

You forgot to include if Tune gets healthy, watch out TD and CB.

  11. There will be no battle. Dodge starts Dodge. TD himself called his son in the NY Times the second best QB he has coached and seen.

The annointed one is what Dodge wanted all along. The only reason he might play nathan tune is to give his son an opportunity to look even better and for tune to take the pounding in games one and two.

    Do not overlook "cinderella man"!

  12. The new strength coach for the football program was introduced tonight, and man does he have a pedigree. He spent time at TN, and was at USC during the National Championship runs of 2003 and 2004. And of course, most recently Ole Miss.

I am sure a lot of you know about him, but after seeing our players out of uniform, it is no wonder we got our butts kicked. I would say 90% of our guys, ESPECIALLY the linemen, need a lot of work in the weight room. There are high school teams bigger than this line!

Dodge mentioned that the new strength coach got here this past Monday, and by Wednesday was already working with players in the weight room. I know most everybody will agree we needed a dedicated strenght coach it, and it is unbelievable this move was not made several years ago.

I have already heard very positive feedback re: Mr. Ausmus. He may be the single most important improvement to advancing the FB program to new heights. Totally agree that this is a very good decision/hire!

  13. I see this... i guess, my only issue is how much we regressed from frist season to the second. I would hope we would have begin to see improvement but it was quite the opposite. At least in the first season we were in games. There were several we could have easily won. But, this season we were pretty much out of all of 'em after the first quarter.

Like all of you, I am hopeful that 2009 will bring about a "turning the corner" season in terms of wins. That remains to be seen. However, the academic side of the rebuilding has already happened. The academic counselors and players are to be commended for this awesome progress. And, props are due to TD for putting the emphasis and focus into play. Very impressive!!
