Let's bring back TD! He was a good recruiter (see 2013 HOT Bowl win). Those were his kids that won the HOT bowl. He might still work for $165K too! He coulda had Mount Cody (if not for Mendoza throwing a fit). He was close on Dez Bryant! Several of his recruits in the NFL (Robertson, Dunbar, Awasom, Olawale). Just kidding. He wasn't ready for D1 plus he could'nt see through his rose colored glasses re his son and paid a price for that. He lost the team in 2009 by starting RD over Tune against all the bottom feeders and Tune against the Natl Champions, Conf Champions, Bowl teams. Not many rocket scientist on FB teams but they all (to a man) know who deserves to start/play every position. If a coach try's to BS em, they will lay down and they did. If only RD stayed at Texas. Just a lil history for you UNT purest!

Tune is returning to Denton to coach at Denton High. May also still be on the quest to find his missing dog!

One person states that a coach friend looked into pricing and was told that Apogee is $23,000 per game and we all take it as gospel. I would really be curious to know if this is in fact true.
Yeah, I heard the same. CH Collins $7K, Jerry World $20K, Apogee $23K. JW is a $1.2B facility and Apogee is $80m. What a shame to miss out on recruiting opps.

Why would this be a bad thing?
No kidding! Sounds like potential commerce for Denton! I think that would be a good thing!

They will still hate and blame Texas forever. They will now finish 3rd or 4th in their division and still blame Texas. The one certainty about Aggies is that they will always be Aggies.

So nice to have real coaches! Ditto on Zach Orr!!

Good riddance!! Tired of hearing them whine forever. The grass ain't gonna be so green when they get there. Ags going from a conference with one bully to one with 5 +. Let us know how that works out for ya?

Yes, we were out manned on both sides of the ball. But, compared to 2009, the mindset of the team/defense was night and day different (give credit to Mac & Canales for playing to win)!
Allow me to clarify above statement so as not to offend the 2009 team members. The players very much wanted to play to win!
-
I agree. Our front seven are so small that our rush defense and pass rush are below average at best. Although! I think we got to the qb and hurried some decisions more than our previous games, some of the blitzes were getting through tonight. Go figure.
Yes, we were out manned on both sides of the ball. But, compared to 2009, the mindset of the team/defense was night and day different (give credit to Mac & Canales for playing to win)! It was obvious that the defense was playing much more aggressive, showing Bama different looks, disguising coverages and moving guys around. We had at least 3 three and outs against their first team O. McCarron was knocked down, hurried and hit numerous times. We had success late in the game also which showed we never quit. That is very encouraging!! Yes they hit some quick strike/big running plays on us but there were numerous times that I felt we were playing with them step for step and I could tell Saban was some kind of pissed. Pretty sure Saban gave his guys an earful at halftime and they will be punished early this week. The veins in his neck were bulging on the sidelines. Overall, a great character, confidence building game that we hopefully did not sustain any serious injuries!!

The current staff needs take full responsibility for this one, we should be competitive at the very least.
Mr. T, this team will get better as they settle in and improve due to 1000% better coaching (which incl wanting to play for this staff). Fact is however, last years team (before warlike attrition hit) was more talented/experienced). Better recruits are already lining up so it will take some time to get where desired. Hang in there my friend!!
-
Yes patience people! We now have two legitimate, real, experienced coaches (i am incl Canales + a quality staff) in charge now. I liked the last one personally but he proved that you just cant take a HS coach and expect success in a short span of time. Too much learning curve at the D1 level. The TD experiment kinda like the BHO (our current pres) experiment, you cant take the mail room boy and promote him to CEO and expect quick success. Just doesn't happen that way. The ladder of success has to be climbed one rung at a time from the bottom.
I would also venture to say that we will see risks taken this year in hopes of getting wins vs conservative play. When you don't match up well with the opponent, you have to take risk to have a chance at winning those type of games (preaching to the choir as you all know this).
Sorry if I have offended anyone but the truth is the truth. The truth and political correctness rarely align.

Nothing against Riley, I respect what he did and how he conducted himself, but my goodness. If he deserves a spot at the top of the home page, then he should be in line behind Scott Hall, Patrick Cobbs, Brian Waters, Booger, etc...
Don't forget Ray!

Have you guys heard any rumors at all about Dodge coming in as QB coach? I want to say it was my brother or maybe even my grandmother that said she was watching the news or maybe listening to one of the talk sports radio shows and that there might be a chance that Applewhite goes with Muschamp and that Mack had mentioned bringing in Dodge. I'm trying to find some info on the web but am only coming up with some Horn boards musings about bringing him in as QB coach. Not sure if I can find the material if it was on a radio show.
I was just curious if anyone else hard the same.
I have heard TD is talking to MB. I put in a good word for TD with MB's admin. Ask Riley, bet he knows.

The difference is they run pro style offenses and we want a mobile quarterback for our system. Their 40 times are irrelevant since they aren't expected to run plays such as the read option that require the QB to be a legitimate threat to run.
Makes one wonder how most of the NFL QBs ever got recruited at the college level.

I don't know if he is a FBS QB or not, but...
A combine 4.9 is a heck of a lot faster than a high school coach hand held stop watch "4.9".
Yes, you can add at least 2 tenths of a second to HH times.
-
Well, he's certainly tall enough to get the job done. But someone help me out, does running a 4.8 forty qualify you as a "mobile QB"?
Let's see here, Stafford and Sanchez were (NFL Combine) mid 4.8/4.9 respectfully in the 40. Based on most of the talent experts on this board, they are chumps with no FB
future. Guess they just know the right people or have pictures of someone to be where they are. Or maybe 40 times are way over rated. I dunno.

McCarney is brilliant!
-
I would like to see him stay as OC/Asst. HC
That would be a very smart move on McCarney's part. Hope McCarney is informed of the impact Coach C made in such a short period of time. I dont have access to DM but someone that does would be wise to make this point.

94% - Texas
88% - Texas A&M
88% - Baylor
81% - Texas Tech
52% - Oklahoma State
47% - Oklahoma
34% - Kansas
25% - Missouri
16% - Iowa State
16% - Nebraska
11% - Kansas State
5% - Colorado
Ok so 46% of the entire B12 are Texans and 26% of the out of state teams Texans. Impressive! There are 3 D1 FB scholarship players in my neighborhood of 50 homes. Impressive!

Well, what head coaching experience did McCarney have before he was hired by Iowa State? I believe the answer is NONE. Personally I saw Coach Canales as an absolute steal as a head coach candidate for North Texas. He was energetic, positive, VERY KNOWLEDGABLE and I can't imagine that he would be anything but a great recruiter. Coach Canales also has pro coaching experience.....how much does McCarney have?
McCarney may have worked for Hayden Fry, but Coach Canales (as far as I'm concerned) WAS the second coming of Hayden Fry. How do I know that you ask? I know because I
watched Hayden Fry at his first gathering at North Texas (as well as his total career here) where he wowed an auditorium full of VERY cynical people (professors, staff, and students)
back in 1973. Mike Canales is EXACTLY like him.
Nail hit squarely on the head Silver Eagle!
-
If true that you have been offered the UNT HC job, you have accepted, and terms agreed to, your first staff decision should be hiring Mike Canales as OC/Asst HC. Why? He has won over many of the alumni, the student body and most importantly the players. He has done an amazing job in taking a team minus 15 frontline players and putting a competitive team on the field in just 5 weeks! He will help you hit the ground running and make your job much easier!!!
-
This isn't one of the Canales family idiots.
Tasty Greek and others who frequently show indiscretion and reflect poorly on UNT, please refrain from saying anything you would not say to your subjects face. Thank you.

Wow, had no idea that he recruited a quarter of your roster from Texas. This is good news. I'm hoping he continues to recruit Florida as well...I'm getting more and more excited.
Have not verified recently, but have heard that 30+% of the B12 rosters made up of Texas kids. Someone with lots of time on their hands please verify? When it comes to OU, historically close to 50+% of their starters are Texans and even higher in terms of All Americans. Okie State is closing in on same percentages. Texas HSs typically provide 330 to 370 D1scholarship FB players a year. If not for Texas FB talent, Oklahoma would have to focus on wrestling and other minor sports.
-
Canales will out work most if not all of the stated candidates I'm certain. I hear he is at the office from 6 am to 10-12 pm most days. Plus, I have heard that Herm Edwards, Jon Gruden and Jim Leavitt have put in a good word. There are probably others but I am not aware. Hope RV solicits input from the Team too. Canales is a great fit for UNT!
Thankfully all "Canales for Coach" talk is over

Yes sarcastic with my post last night. Hell freezing over more likely than TD coming back. Honestly however, if TD had already been through the battles & scars he suffered at UNT but somewhere else and then come to UNT (no RD to cloud his decisions), I think he delivers & performs like RV and all fans had hoped initially. I like him personally, know he truly had the right intentions. The learning curve is just too steep to go from HS to D1. It's kinda like going from the mail room to CEO. A formula for disaster.
OK, I'll give it a rest!
GMG!
