That just might be the craziest ranking I have seen yet. I guess they just looked at who won the tournament last year to determine who would be picked first? Despite all the newcomers I still have a hard time seeing WKY being the worst team in the conference behind Troy and ULM.
I think the rankings will probably look something like this -
East
1. FAU
2. MTSU
3. South Al
4. WKY
5. FIU
6. Troy
West
1. ULL
2. Denver (Assuming the win a few more road games)
3. NT (tie)
3. ASU (tie)
5. UALR
6. ULM
I think the west side is very fluid with any of the top four team having the ability to finish first. For us it will be a question of how quickly we can get everyone integrated. I do think we will start off a little slow, but will be playing our best basketball come tournament time.
believe the fox rankings for western. though i would flip flop us and south al. i have us dead last in the conference. dead last...even behind 'i can't coach a lick thomas' and 'big lots u' (ulm)
we have the second worst coach in the conference. thomas owns that in perpetuity. our returning scoring and rebounding is a JOKE.
i can see us winning a few games against ulm and possibly little rock. everyone thought i was sandbagging last year when i picked against us but i pretty much showed everyone i was right on that. mcdonald is a terrible coach and the administration chose to keep him because of fear they would lose this class.
all of that said...i bought season tickets just to see the new guys.

Tony Mitchell was a second-team pick? That's laughable. The kid has more talent in his left pinky than any other player in the Sun Belt. And don't give me the BS about him being a freshman. That excuse doesnt fly in college basketball, and especially not in the Sun Belt.

It was when the SBC forum turned into nothing but Apostrophites pushing their name fight into everything and being generally intolerable, Troy fans ranting about "owning the Sun Belt" because they only lost 1 or 2 football conference games per year, and every piddleshit 1-AA school fan base coming along to chest thump about how we ought to come crawling to beg for their teams to come dominate our conference.
Also, the South Alabama guy who apparently spends all his time in a dark room with a list of 1-AAAAA schools and a jar of vaseline, concocting fantasy conferences for the year 2070.
EDIT: Because I forgot to mention the FIU fans who try their damnedest to turn anyone else's expression of an opinion into a Widney High reenactment of the Lincoln Douglas debates.
Basically, I'm getting old and grumpy, and I hate everyone now.

anyhooooo.....we're suffering 'battered wife' syndrome (honest to god not minimalizing that in real life)
we've been told mcdonald has found heyzeus (not literally...figuratively) and now he's gonna 'focus' on fundamentals and hard play and defense.
i axed if we ran across a 'basketball for dummies' book and this was some awakening style event. whodathunk to teach those things to a college basketball team. we need to pay the guy that came up with such a novel concept.
i guess his pattern before was get as many 6'4 swingman type players that can't dribble or shoot but can jump through the roof and win. we all know how well that worked last year.
we have lost a TON OF FANS due to the 'basketball reset' engineered by ransdell and company. some of our biggest posters from haven (who are also big givers irl) didn't renew in protest.
on the opposite end of the spectrum i just bought season tickets for the second year in a row after a 15 year hiatus. i got the cheapest ones and figure i can sit wherever i please.
gone are the prima donnas. that's not to say there is no talent in the incoming class but you don't win with 7 freshmans and 1 sophomore juco and chumps returning. but i'll be up close and personal to witness some hustle for the first time in 2 years.

ours is a bit kookoo for koko puffs right now with us keeping mcdonald for another year.
every aspect has been beat to death on our board.

btw....i watched your first half on channelsurfing today and other parts when we had time outs.
denver is a tough freaking out at their place.
i have no idea what happened to them in ooc games but by god they looked good against us (at our place) and they were shooting 3's like they were layups against you guys.

Given the way the schedules lay out, I wouldn't be shocked to see WKU make a charge for the East and/or the #1 overall seed either. They have a lot of home games coming up.
for every positive you bring up i can top it with 2 negatives.
we only played 7 players tonight and juan pattillo had his shark eyes back.

i've been saying it since early summer. ask your amigos that visit the sun belt board. they even tried to talk sense into me saying we had kerusch and pettigrew.
i countered with we have no point god and that has been born out all season long.
i guess my theory might be me trying to 'rationalize' when we lost to what i perceived as suck teams in conference play. i still think it holds some water.

we have a poster on hilltoppah haven named 'zeke.
he's a prof at wku and has as level a head as i've ever seen on a fan. he's what i want to be when i grow up.
and he's preached for years how tough the road is.......especially in conference play.
here's one thing i've always biotched about in re the sun belt schools.
in the past we've (sbc) had teams that cobbled together a patchwork quilt of jucos and txfers. pretty good ballas too. but since hoops is an afterthought several of these schools would play bodybag games to raise money for their equally sh!tty foolsball teams.
they'd come into conference with horrible records. but when you have 17 games under your belt unless you're in total upheaval then you start to gel. especially a guy like maestri at troy.
the ulala team you faced tonight is not the same one losing early season games. they have new coach and system so it is even more work for them to gel but their coach won where he was before there. and ulala usually has a benchful of athletes.
you can't convince the havenites on this theory of mine.
add in the target on your chest and you do have one...just like murray and austin peay do in the ovc and you get folks' best shot.
i don't look forward to odufawa raping us in diddle this year. and it is no sanctuary at all with losses to denver and fau already.

there's nothing to stop them from being future foot patters.
as a matter of fact they've already done the most important thing to get them there. they've associated themselves with other future 'stall prowlers'.
one time on the sbc board schools listed their former grads.
the rest of us listed a few guys that had made it in sports. an occasional hottie that had made some pinup. possibly a ceo of pepsico...etc...etc.
but denver's list was a freakin' who's who made up of lawmakers and astronauts and such.
to say they don't fit the 3rd fiddle directional school makeup of the sbc was an understatement.
good riddance to their paper cut offense.

I'm sorry for you guys that this year has turned into such a death spiral. I'm guessing we can go ahead and assume we won't be seeing you in Hot Springs?
As for killing the RPI... You guys aren't hurting anything unless you lose to Florida Gulf Coast. I wish every team in the SBC 'killed the RPI' by going about .500 in OOC with wins against schools like St. Johns and Southern Illinois, then tanking for conference season. Instead, we get jackholes like Joe Scott who don't bother to try in OOC or Isiah who doesn't even have his full team eligible until conference season.
Even when WKU has a bad year, they help the conference. I wish we had 10 other conference mates just like them.
prolly not on the hot springs amigo. i'm pretty sure i'll be back in nicaragua the last week of february and don't believe i'll have the money to do both.
haven is in meltdown mode. i've actually tried to stop the bleeding over there but it's reached a tipping point on the board.
