  1. Many of you are missing the point. It doesn't matter how loud I yelled. What I yelled was not mean or ugly and certainly was not directed at the players. How would my comments offend any coach? Most of my statements were suggestions. I didn't need RV's confirmation on Monday morning that yes, you can yell those things Bob. I already knew that. The main reason I called RV on Monday was because I was falsely accused of cussing the coaches by George Dunham. George Dunham NEVER heard me cuss for the simple reason "I never cussed." George Dunham is lying, it's wrong, and he knows it. Dunham is using his radio show and "celebrity status?" to label, or tag me as a foul mouth fan that's not wanted at Fout's simply because he was irritated. Dunham went way over the line and there are consequences. You just don't go around lying about people. It is amazing how many of you think you saw or heard me on Saturday. Saturday was the first time I sat in those seats with the exception of the last 8 minutes of the LAF game. It just goes to show you how many other people were yelling just like me.
  2. I wasn't going to do anything concerning the attack by Dunham. He looked really foolish and displayed a side of him few people are aware of. Besides I clapped and gave him a standing ovation for starring in his "own" movie. But my wife believed I needed to call and talk to RV. She didn't feel like any supporter, season ticket holder or not, deserved to be treated the way Dunham treated me. I am so glad I did. The first thing Monday morning I called the office of Rick Villarreal. Connie answered the phone. "Hello Connie, this is Bob Furay, is Rick available?" "No, Rick is in a meeting on campus. I can have him call you when he gets back." "Yes, would you please have Rick give me a call. It's about an incident that happened on the field at Fout's after the game concerning George Dunham." "I'll give him your message Bob." "Thanks Connie." I hung up. Rick returned my call later that morning. "Hello, is Bob Furay there?" "This is he" Hey Rick there was an incident...Rick interrupted my sentence..."I already know about it. I just got back from meeting with four witnesses and they all confirmed that you started it." "Thats not true Rick," I said. Immediately and in a stern tone RV said, "Bob, Bob, I have already talked to these people seperately and they all said the same thing that you started it and that you were cussing." Oh my gosh man, Rick is not even interested in what I have to say. I honestly thought RV was going to hang up on me. "Rick, please let me tell you what happened.' I pleaded. I am really worrid at this point. "Rick, I never cussed, in fact I never heard any one cuss." Look Bob, my wife was sitting in my box, you know were my box is Bob, and she said there was cussing coming from your section. She was offended, Bob." "Rick, I NEVER CUSSED, I DIDN'T HEAR ANY CUSSING!" I saw Adler and some guys banging on the mettle seats to my right but they never cussed.'' "I listened to a replay of the tape Bob and there is cussing." "Rick, there was a young couple with two small boys sitting directly in front of me. We brought three young people and one fifth grader with us. No one cussed!" "Here's what I said Rick," and then I recited the things I yelled that day.(see top post). "Can you not say those things Rick?" "Oh no no, you can say that," Rick replied. "In fact I don't care if you call Darrell Dickey a baldheaded"....at this point my mind went to, man thats worse than anything I said...and I do not know what Rick said after baldheaded. "Can you not yell loud Rick?" "Oh no you can yell loud," Rick said. " But Rick, I yelled real loud." "Thats ok, we just want to keep it clean. We want it to be an environment where family and kids can come." "Rick", I said, " I know that, thats why I yelled upward so I didn't startle and scare the young boys or the older people sitting around us. Rick, no one complained and no one left the game early. Rick conceded that maybe he didn't have all the facts. I told him that Bill Kelly saw and heard everything. "Have Bill give me a call." Rick said. Rick then told me he would get back with me. Twice before hanging up he said he would get back with me. I have e-mailed him two times since Monday morning but he has never retuned the e-mails or called me back. To those of you reading this post. I never cussed. RV knows this and so does George Dunham. No one should ever be treated like Dunham treated me that day and then to lie about it is even worse. Harry, my name is Bob Furay.
  3. Hello, I am the fan that George Dunham verbally attacked in front of my family and friends last Saturday after the ARKST football game. I am a season ticket holder (4 seats)and MGC member and have been for the last four years. I have been a loyal fan since 1970. My family has attended two of the last three football banquets and one of the last two basketball banquets. We go to the spring and fall scrimmages. We had season tickets for basketball, lower bowl, for the two seasons prior to this year. I cancelled this years tickets. We have purchased raffle tickets for the Regal Eagle the last two years. George Dunham's conduct last Saturday was reprehensible. His verbal assult was unjustified and shameful for a UNT employee. It seems unjust that Dunham is allowed to spin this incident in his favor on his radio show and that the Athletic Department refuses to admit any wrong doing by Dunham. We have friends who have 9 season tickets two or three rows down from the center of the press box. My seats are lower and in a different section. Each game we all tailgate together and then at game time we go to our seperate seats. Five of the 9 season tickets are owned by a UNT fan who lives in Connecticut. He will fly his family of five down for one, sometimes two games each year. We all always try to bring someone to use the extra seats when they can not fly down to Dallas. This past Saturday my family decided to sit with our friends in their seats up under the press box. Here is what happened. After the game I told my wife I was going to try and catch RV down on the field. I had watched him standing in the south endzone for the entire game and I wanted to thank him for everything he had done for our football program. My wife said, "Go ahead, I'll meet you down on the field. I hurrid down the steps. After I visited with RV I turned around and saw my wife waving. I walked over to where she, my son and friends were standing. My son mentioned to me that he thought Dunham was talking about me when GD was making his way down the steps from the press box. Remember I am long gone, talking to RV. I didn't give my son's statement much thought other than maybe my voice carrid over the air waves but heck, I didn't cuss or say anything bad. As we were standing on the field talking my son says, "Hey dad, here comes George Dunham." I turn and see Dunham walking towards where we are standing. His neck was lowered and his head was leaning forward and I noticed him glarring at me. As he entered our space I said,"hey George, how you doing?" George immediately shouted out, "YOU'RE THAT JERK" "YOU DON'T BELONG HERE' 'YOU'RE NOT THE KIND OF FANS WE WANT My wife, my son, my friends and I are stunned. What?? I replied calmly that, I have been a fan for years and I have a right to come to the games and also say what I want." George shouted, "NO YOU DON'T" "YOU'VE GOT NOTHING INVESTED IN THIS PROGRAM" YOU'RE DISEASED, Dunham shouted. Dunham began to walk towards the press box, still shouting at me. When Dunham got to the where the players benches were he shouted, "SOMEONE THAT ONLY CONTRIBUTES 75.00 PER YEAR HAD NO RIGHTS TO VOICE AN OPINION" He then shouted "JERK" "YOU'RE DISEASED" Dunham then accussed me of cussing the coaches. We all looked at each other, like what is this gus talking about? I suggested Dunham clean up his radio show and gave him a standing ovation still perplexed as to what the heck was that all about. This is what I didn't know at the time. When Dunham was walking down the steps from the press box someone asked him, "Hey Dunham, wheres your police escort?" Dunham replied,"I don't need an escort. If a fan like that jerk said anything to me I would go over there and put his ass back in his seat. He must be starring in his own movie, what an idiot. The coaches and players have so much more invested in this program than that jerk." My son was standing right there. In fact my son asked Dunham, "Why were we not in the shotgun with 30 seconds left?" Dunham replied, "Because Phillips isn't very good taking the snap in the shotgum." So what did I yell that day? "Throw the ball" "shotgun" "help us RV' "throw the ball downfield" "Boo" 'We're not even trying to win this game" But more dissappointing than Dunham's deplorable behavior was how RV treated me via telephone. No wonder there were 25,000 empty seats! Funny. It is no longer good enough that you buy season tickets or join the MGC. You must now pass the George Dunham litmus test on who can attend games and who can't. Who has a right to speak and who doesn't. Who is a supporter and who is not. Sad day for UNT athletics. Thank you for listening.
