  1. Commissioners from five conferences will be part of a news conference in the Bahamas on Oct. 14 announcing "an exciting announcement about postseason college football," according to Lea Miller of Complete Sports Management.

Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson confirmed the announcement is for a six-year bowl-game agreement with the Mountain West as a backup player, participating "maybe once in six years." Conference USA and the MAC are believed to be spearheading the game and will be primary participants.

Thompson, MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher, C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky, Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson and American Athletic Conference senior associate commissioner Nick Carparelli will attend the press conference at the 15,000-seat Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau.

The Bahamas announcement could spark a bowl rotation among the five conferences across several sites. These conferences are starting their own bowls to avoid the clumsy at-large selection process if so-called power conferences can't fill all their spots.

Two sources involved in the process have said the Bahamas is probably the only feasible working overseas bowl concept because of its proximity (a half-hour flight from Miami, basically).

  2. North Texas (2-2/0-0 CUSA) at Tulane (3-2/1-0), 2:30 p.m. Saturday, FCS

    > Why my confidence is low: The Mean Green turned some heads by giving Georgia a scare between the hedges, but while that effort was nice, these are the games that matter. Making the jump from the Sun Belt to CUSA, this is the kind of game that could give UNT a lot of confidence. Beat an improving Tulane team on the road, and UNT would leave New Orleans believing it can compete in its new league. Lose to the program that's finished in last place in its division the past four seasons, and UNT will be left wondering what it must do to get better. Because this is a senior-laden team that has the pieces in place to make a bowl run. To get the win, however, it's due time the UNT running game show up. UNT topped the 2,000-yard mark as a team last year, but after four games, the Mean Green is on a pace to only produce 75 percent of that. Tulane has been vulnerable against the run. Before it gave up just 26 yards to a Louisiana-Monroe team that's among the worst rushing teams in the nation, Tulane was allowing more than 150 yards per game on the ground. UNT must make this the week the running game is restored. If that happens, the Mean Green should get halfway to blow eligibility with more than half the season to go.

    > Key stat: 4, the number of sacks allowed by the UNT offensive line, good for a top 20 national ranking. The sturdy line is a big reason why senior QB Derek Thompson is on pace to throw for 500 more yards, 4 more TDs and 5 fewer INTs this season compared to 2012.

    > So says I: North Texas 30, Tulane 28

  3. Montana's inconsistencies are likely going to come back to haunt Tulane more often than not. If he can't straighten things out, even a big game from Darkwa won't be enough to overcome a pass-heavy team like North Texas that has proven it can hang with some tough competition.

  4. Jeez, it's like talking to a bunch of teenaged girls.

Here is some news for you, pal. Outside your own little world (this board), the opinions of others in this league is that, right now, MTSU is the better team. Why don't you ask someone on Thunderherd (or whatever the hell their site is called).

Like it. Don't like it. But it is.

And again, FAU is underrated. They are playing well and should have beaten Rice.

We will know a little more about UNT after Saturday, and a lot more about UNT after Oct. 12.

Now, please continued with your unabashed homerism.

Outside of this little world as many folks disagree with you as might agree with you so don't set yourself up as an all knowing authority. Continue with your what ever it is.

  5. Didn't think this was that controversial. There were several conference ranking threads that had MTSU rated as the 3rd or 4th best team team, ahead of UNT.

Yes, it seems we are the darling of the computer rankings. Great. But still just opinion.

And this wasn't even a comment about UNT, it was a comment about FAU being underrated.

    Jeez, sensitive much?

"MTSU is widely considered to be a better team than UNT" is not a comment about UNT ? Then pray tell what is it ?

  6. MTSU is widely considered a better team than UNT at this point. FAU took MTSU to overtime.

Maybe FAU is just a bit underrated?

Please tell us, who other than YOU widely considers Middle Tennessee to be a better team than North Texas ?

  11. 2-13 is not a good road record (under D Mc) but here are those 13 losses:

    OOC:

    Georgia

    LSU

    Bama

    Kansas State

    Ohio

    Houston

    Tulsa

and conference losses on the road to:

    ULL

    ULM

    WKU

    MTSU

    FIU

    Arkansas State

And, I think every one of those conference teams we lost to on the road....went to bowls the year, that we lost to them.

So if you're gonna keep throwing out the 2-13 road record.....it should be examined more closely than just the record.

    Good post SUMG. Plus 1

  12. Or any, for that matter.

DMac may turnout fine, but we need not forget who we passed up.

Fran already has wins over a CUSA school on the road and a Mountain West school. 2 pretty good notches on the belt of a 1st year Sun Belt school starting it's second (or is it first?) year of FBS play.

And for those that believe DMac wouldn't also be on the phone to the west coast, you are kidding yourselves. Maybe you should consider who the west coast would consider the better candidate. Just a thought.

Didn't Fran throw his hat in the ring for quite a few jobs before getting the one at Texas State ? Just a thought.
