  1. It's embarrassing that UNT is affiliated with a conference that is a candidate for 'worst of the worst'.

    God bless Texas

damn where have you been since the mid 90's? The Big West and Sunbelt were easily the worst D1 conferences in the nation!!! NT has been in the absolute basement of college football for 20 year!!! Now that the Sunbelt has passed up the MAC and WAC, you wanna complain about being "affiliated with a conference that is a candidate for 'worst of the worst'

learn some NT history, then you should take your embarresment to the Sunbelt Board becuz i am not ashamed of anything afilliated with NT right now..... if we win the Sunbelt Conference Championship, maybe not this year, but next year, trust me i wont feel any embaressment.

  2. I like USA.... they are one of the better FCS schools to go FBS in a while... I would rather see Texas St. here but in the long run they will bring legitimacy to the Belt, which we will be winning. They have the largest stadium currently in the Sunbelt. They will weaken Troy. Hell atleast they have a cool name. Id rather see Southern Alabama Jaguars than Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, or Middle Tennesee Blue Raiders! They led the Sunbelt in attendance last year. They are a solid add for the league and i will be at that game.

And i agree about scheduling.... as we settle into the new stadium, we need to schedule winnable OOC with maybe just one money game later in the season. The Sunbelt is improving so conference wins will be coming at a premium.

  3. WHAT?!?! :o No "quitter" comments?

Hmmmm, I guess since it benefits us that's a different matter......... <_<

So? what so bad about being a homer? and hes transfering from OU.... Not North Texas....to try to compare this to RD again is a lil ridiculous but hey its gmg.com ive come to expect some strong opinions. RD didnt transfer becuz of PT, hell with Darius Carey being dismissed he probably wouldve been the starting WR , something you couldnt say about Marcus Trice....OU is stacked at WR with Broyles and just about every other position is stacked so you cant really call someone a quitter if they are leaving to the team for PT

  4. Exciting news! This is the second 4 star transfer from a BCS Program under McCarneys watch. I wouldn't be surprised with the massive amount of connections on this coaching staff and the respect that Coach McCarney had from his colleagues that we are able to get a few of these per calendar year; which these guys can be program changers!

excuse my ignorance but who was the first 4 star transfer from a BCS Program? are you talking about 5 star Tony Mitchel?

  5. all you people are biased anyway... you all have met RD personaly and like him, so no way is he a quitter! he hurt NT ... his dad hurt NT... but hes a nice kid so it makes it ok to waste 3 years??? what the hell? not having RD at WR or QB or RB this year will cost this team wins, and you people are ok with that??

i wish him the best luck at McNeese St. i just dont see this move as a positive for the university or RD

  6. Are you actually saying you would stay somewhere if you had to hear your dad trashed every day by a bunch of people you “think” that actually know something? I believe at first RD did plan to stay around (at a young age you think you can take anything people might say), but once he started hearing the comments repeatedly it might have just been too hard on him, and his family.

oh cmon man boo freakin hoo! -1 me all you want people but are we seriously this sensitive for RD? his dad got fired... it happens everyday. HE WAS A HUGE PEICE TO THIS TEAM WHO WE NEEDED!!! i wasnt questioning RD before he quit... but i seriously doubt people were coming up to him everyday at school talking crap to his face about his dad... even if they were, you show character when the chips fall against you.... i know for a fact his teamates would have rallied around him ... RD took his talents to Lake Charles

oh well tho life goes on....I hope Brent Osborn can take the mental pressure of D1 ball better than RD could.

  7. Not happening..

SEC is unlikely to expand and A&M is unlikely to be able to afford the exit fees. The concept only works if the Big 12 imploads and there is not exit fees. If not A&M is stuck paying the new set of fees that where included in the by-law changes after Neb and Col left..

Sounds good running out of somebody's mouth but does not make sense in the pocketbook for all partied involved including the SEC.

you think they are worried about some fee?.... if the SEC adds A&M and Oklahoma it would make plenty of sense for everyones pocketbooks trust me... Texas might have pissed off too many people...

  8. I was listening to the Ticket on the way home from work and some reporter from Aolfanhouse is saying that its almost a certainty that A&M will bolt the Big XII to join the SEC. The Longhorn network has apparently rubbed some Big XII schools the wrong way. The reporter went on to say that the SEC would love to get there foot in the door of Texas recruiting ( no shock there ) and all SEC schools would gladly vote for admitting A&M into the conference. He also points out that Texas A&M will never win a national championship playing second fiddle to Texas in the Big XII.... I will try to find the author and article but the rumors are spreading like wild fire.

What does this mean for UNT? Does the Big XII raid CUSA? Does CUSA then raid the Sunbelt?

  9. People who transfer from UNT are by definition quitters.

People who transfer to UNT are wise young neb who have seen the errors of their previous choices.

Either that or walk up to George Odufuwa, look at him straight in the eyes, and call him a quitter.

becuz george odufuwa grew up in southlake texas right?

it depends on the situation if they are a quitter or not ... if you think Riley was justified leaving North Texas then cool good for you! I think it was a weak way to go out.... gimme Brent Osbourne! i bet that kid grew up in a trailor and had to walk to school everyday... i dont have time to feel sorry for Riley Dodge...i wish him luck but theres a reason why hes at Mcneese St. now and its not for being Joe Montana or Troy Aikman

  10. I appreciate what he did but Riley Dodge is a quitter.... its a fact not an opinion. He literally quit the team, no denying that.

When things get tough in life you grit your teeth and you soldier on.... Riley was doing a good job of that until his daddy got fired.... Physical toughness and Mental toughness are 2 seperate things.... Physically Riley could take a hit and had alot of heart, but mentally he was weak. When things changed, life got difficult and daddy wasnt there no more. He could have stayed on and played WR without his dad, this is the real world we live in.

I only care for Mean Green and people who want to be here...

  11. IMO, the odds are better that UTSA & Tx St. jump ship and join the SB once the WAC is disbanded.... La Tech is holding this whole thing up.... Truth is La Tech is no better than Ark St., NM St., Troy, Unt, etc.. they just think they belong with SMU, TCU, Houston, Rice, Tulsa etc.... The Wac will disband, Sunbelt will poach Tx St. and UTSA and La Tech will go Indy ....

Anybody who thinks we are joining the WAC needs to look at a map.... we already did this once with the Big West, and it sucked monkey balls.... Sunbelt > WAC

  12. We have specialized most decades since I graduated (circa, 1976) somewhat like the old football drill called "running in place." That means we did a helluva' bunch of leg work but we weren't getting anywhere with it; that is, getting to a destination whereas our athletic accomplishments would be recognized as a Top 50 NCAA D1/FBS type of athletic program .

Great people, ie, nicely paid staffers, make great athletic programs. It does not happen because of who we used to have, who we wish we'd had or just living on the "boy-howdy, our potential at UNT is unlimited" as our non-stop yet unrealized battle cry.

What will sink many of our ships or spirits (if you will) is "IF" UTSA were to actually pull a South Floiida type rise from athletic nothing-ness, leaps in an upwardly bound manner from one league to a much better league and what it has taken North Texas about 100 years to do of playing football the Road Runners do it USF-style in less than 10 years. (Lest anyone forget, FAU in our own league has been playing football about 10 years (give or take) and we have hardly dominated them even losing to them one year we went to a bowl game when they were not yet official members of the SBC.

Again...."If' that were to happen even down in the Alamo City, that would create a very awkward moment for whoever our UNT leaders are (if not the same ones still on payroll) trying to explain why we would still be in the midst of some kind of "you name the number" year plan in Denton that still has not come to fruition at a truly recognized level of success somewhat like Boise State's.

GrandGreen I do think we should pay close attention to your below quote because some of us have seen countless other program pass us by post our Missouri Valley Conference membership years and your quote : "The truth is that additional fb teams will only increase the already great competition for resources in Texas. No one will be an immediate threat to NT but unless NT continues to substantially improve their athletic programs, they could in a few short years drop even further down in the state's athletic hierarchy."

USF was a sleeping giant much in the way that UNT is but we havent capitalized.... UTSA is going to be horrible for years at football and its going to be hard for them to get good attendence at the Alamodome with Idaho, Utah St, and San Jose St. coming to town....(it would be that much harder if UTA started football)

I think USF kinda had the perfect storm the way they started 1aa then as Indy. They did it right by recruiting kids to stay home in South Florida, which ultimatley led to Bowl games and a Big East invite through conference reshuffling.... UTSA wont be passing UNT anytime soon... im more concerned about Tx St-SM...

  13. im looking forward to seeing.....

-Telvin Cantly sowing up our interior line, hopefully improving our Rush D. thats were it all starts.

-Our D-Backs leading the Sunbelt in INT's.

-Lance Dunbar touching the ball over 50% of the time.

-lastly and most importantly im looking for to a renewed intrest in the UNT football program... with good alum/student turnouts we can average 20k no problem..... but if you get fans/dentonites to go games ( Like the 7k that went to the Pit vs Tx Tech ) we can fill New MG Stadium with 30k... so far i think the marketing has been tremendous in getting the word out to the Denton community... I cant watch ESPN without seeing a Mean Green Football commercial... but this seasons success wont neccesarily be measured in wins/losses. It should be measured in Attendance and Gameday Experience.

  14. we may not win alot of games this year(im thinking 3-5 range).... but i know 2 things for sure i can look forward ......

    1. An improved Defense under Coach Mac

    2. Lance Dunbar getting atleast 40 touches a game... could be his year

I would have been concerned if we hadnt retained Canales, but he knows the players, and will have no problem knowing how to put Dunbar in the best situations.... Could be a huge year for Dunbar... we all have seen what he can do :gym: ....

  15. ben and skin also interviewed Coach Mac a while back after the finals on a slow day i believe.... Mac does a very good job explaining what going on at North Texas and his enthusiasm is infectious.... props to the UNT marketing staff :goodjob: ... i think they are doing better with billboards, interviews, commercials, and radio spots as opposed to what UTSA is doing with there "Building of a Program" BS.... which talks about UTSA's traditions? i dont care how the Roadrunner mascot got his nickname.... its a downright sad show to watch lol

  16. :thumbsu: hey no problem for the mean green...let it drag down there program.... its fine with me... i would love to get some of there recruits... it doesnt make any sense for La Tech, TSU, or UTSA to be in the WAC but they will learn just like we learned in the 90's with the Big West.... hell they are pretty much stuck now with the schools that left the Belt for the WAC ( Idaho, USU, NMSU ) so essentially the WAC is the worst most hated conference in the nation in my eyes.... let the WAC die a slow death, in the meantime we can win the Sunbelt, and have a leg up on all these schools in the arms race for CUSA...
