Great Addison Long Story

Harry

“Addy enjoys a challenge,” Mitchell said. “She’s highly competitive. I think it runs in her family. Her dad’s a competitive man, and I think her parents brought it out in her. She refuses to accept mediocrity.”

North Texas only improved to No. 132 in the country despite Long’s success in her first season. The next year, the Mean Green cracked the top-100.

None of that improvement prepared Long for the 2011 season, her third in the program.

“At the beginning, we didn’t realize how good we were,” Long said. “Basically, we just wanted to play well and see how far it would take us. By the middle of the season, we were chasing regionals and wanted to get to nationals.”

North Texas won four tournaments, landed four golfers — including Long — on the All-Sun Belt Conference Team, made it to the NCAA Central Regional and finished the season ranked in the top 50.

Only one player off the top five graduated.

“I still have a year left,” Long said. “We can be even better.”
