  1. It sounds like the same guy I saw at the Alabama game. Looks to be in his mid-upper twenties, fairly skinny, yells a lot throughout the game and is usually dressed from head to toe in Mean Green gear. At Alabama, he pretty much yelled the whole time and would occasionally run down to the sideline with some kind of field pass and get in and start trying to pep talk to the players and some of the coaches. I was confused.

I thought it was funny how he hit on some Southern cuties at the Bama game and was immediately blown off. However, at least he made an effort and I must give credit where credit is due.

This guy wasn't skinny and there was no NT gear to be found. The players just stood in amazement as the guy questioned their manhood.

  2. Let's go with the latter. Though your ability to form coherent sentences does make you a credit to your alleged university. Tell me you have a full set of teeth and I'll have to completely reconsider my former position.

Of course, its just a joke. And you're on a UNT board... so laugh.

Anyways, seems like your team is always picking up talented athletes with IQ scores just slightly above vegetative levels. But to be fair, it has worked quite well. And this is a terrific pick up for your team and the SBC, talent-wise.

That never gets old.....couldn't you have come up with something more original?

  3. Troy is a junior college playing Div 1A sports. Unfortunately for us, they play said sports in our conference. Though clearly a mental midget, this guy is a hell of a talent

Care to back that up with facts or should I just accept it as fact?

BTW, looks like LB gave this decision a lot of thought....

    Yet more information on Jarboe

    August 13, 2008

    Drew Champlin

Just talked with head coach Larry Blakeney about the Josh Jarboe situation. The No.1 question right now is “is he eligible this year?”

From what Blakeney understands, he should be. He took two classes this summer at Oklahoma, got two B’s, made all his workouts, etc. OU has released him from his scholarship. He has to be denied admission to OU for him to be eligible this fall and that decision should come today, if he hasn’t been denied already. So, it sounds like Troy coaches are gearing up for him to play.

There’s the acclimation period where new players have to go through. Jarboe started practice yesterday (Tuesday) with the team. He’ll go through today in shorts, Thursday and Friday in shells, and full pads Saturday if that schedule’s right. Though, Thursday is a scrimmage so he wouldn’t play in that but I guess it would count as a practice.

Jarboe is friends with freshman wideout Chip Reeves, who played at Stone Mountain. “Chip spoke well of him as a competitor and as a player,” Blakeney said.

“Eligible or not, he’ll be with us,” Blakeney said. “We interviewed him extensively, we talked to his family, his mentor, to Ray Bonner (high school coach), and we talked to Oklahoma coaches about him. I don’t think this kid is a bad kid.”

“The rap deal happened in his dorm room. One of the offensive linemen taped it and (Jarboe) went home for the break (after summer, before fall). (OU coach Bob) Stoops called him and he told him everything. It turns out, the lineman had uploaded the tape on youtube. (Jarboe) wasn’t trying to get the tape out there. He was a victim of his own circumstances.”

Blakeney said they wouldn’t rush him on the field.

“We’ll see how fast he can move mentally in this system,” Blakeney said. “It’s not a hard system for the kids to learn because they enjoy playing in it. I don’t know if he’ll be ready for Middle Tennessee or the second game or the third game. We’ll let him move at his own pace.”

  4. I was skimming through the DaMN's Quick today and they had a mock NFL draft... anyways, they had the Troy cornerback going 10th overall. There wasn't another non-BCS player in the top 10 mock guesses... Troy is really doing a good job of getting their kids into the NFL. I can't remember how high Ware went when the Coboys took him, but it was pretty high - wasn't it?

Just think.....Ware and McKelvin both were passed over by the "bigger" schools due to their "lack of size". Troy has done very well in the past with signing guys that were overlooked by the big boys.

  5. Big news on the "GoTroyTrojans.com" board.

All the Trojan fans are very worried they may lose their

very good OC, Tony Franklin, to the Auburn Tigers.

Franklin is the southeastern answer to the spread offense

as Coach Dodge is to the southwest. If Franklin leaves,

this could be a major set back to Troy football.

He's as good as gone. Our only hope is to either promote an assistant from within or find someone that knows how to run Franklin's offense. This can't be good for our recruiting!

  6. C-USA is looking for media markets. Have ya'll ever been to Troy, Alabama? It is the worst city in the Belt.

What do they bring other than football?

MTSU ain't exactly God's gift to the Sun Belt!

  7. Just wanted to stop by and say good game. I hope everyone that traveled to Troy has a safe trip home. Not trying to rub anything in.......your time is coming. I don't look forward to travelling to Denton next year. Do me a favor and run the table in the Belt from here on out.

  8. Conference leader Troy is tough test for NT

    Richard White

    Issue date: 10/19/07 Section: SPORTS

At 2:30 p.m. this Saturday, the NT football team will attempt to accomplish something it hasn't achieved in three years, consecutive wins.

This feat was last achieved Oct. 9, 2004, when NT defeated Utah State University on the road.

Coming off a 31-21 victory against the University of Louisiana at Monroe, NT (1-5, 1-2) knows that beating

Troy (4-2, 3-0) won't be easy. The Trojans have won four games in a row and are undefeated in conference play.

"This Troy team is definitely the cream of the crop in the Sun Belt," said head coach Todd Dodge. "If we can go on the road in a tough, hostile environment and get a win, it'd be a great shot in the arm for us to get back into the hunt."

Troy leads the series 3-1, even though NT has outscored Troy 53-45 in the four games combined. The Trojans have managed to squeak out victories by the slimmest margins. NT last beat Troy in 2003.

The players believe a win against a team of Troy's caliber would send a loud message to the rest of the conference.

"It's a good test for us to see where we're at," said freshman starting quarterback Giovanni Vizza. "A win would be a big statement to the rest of the Sun Belt."

Troy's potent offense leads the conference with an average 34 points a game. NT's defense, coming off its best performance of the season against the Warhawks, looks to keep momentum going on Saturday.

"We let our defense turn loose and play," Dodge said. "A lot of it has to do with confidence and playing with emotion and wreckless abandon."

NT's defense has given up 30 or more points in each of its first five games. NT was ranked last out of 119 teams in the nation in both scoring defense and total defense. Last Saturday's victory raised NT to second to last in both categories as the defense tries to rebuild in its final six games.

Senior defensive end and conference defensive player of the week Montey Stevenson admits NT has struggled to meet the lofty expectations placed on the program before the start of the season.

"You got your doubters when you're not up to some people's expectations," Stevenson said. "We're a good team even though our record says we're not. We know the type of team that we are even though we had mistakes at the beginning."

The real battle will be Troy's defense versus NT's offense. The Trojans have the best passing defense in the conference, allowing an average 184.2 passing yards a game. The Mean Green has the best passing offense in the conference, averaging 318 yards per game.

Vizza's growing mobility could be the deciding factor. His ability to either scramble and find open receivers or run the ball himself when he finds the holes in the defense is crucial for a team that has had problems establishing a consistent passing attack.

Vizza, who rushed for 66 yards last game, said he's up to the challenge.

"I am feeling more comfortable if the receivers don't get open or if there's pressure, for me to be able to run," he said.

The Mean Green will play at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium in Troy, Ala., against Sun Belt Conference leader Troy University.

One of the many reasons that this game scares me to death! We are gonna get everyone's best game and that means there is no margin for error. Man, I am already nervous!

  9. Keep the Troy QB on his back. Blitz, blitz, blitz... They have one of the best offenses in college football, so make the QB rush his throws and decisions. We know about how they play against the big boys. Troy blitzes a LOT. Run hot routes for Jamario. Just one missed assignment on the blitz, then... see ya!

Welcome back Jamario, we missed ya!

    GMG!!!

This is the way ULM chose to play us and it seemed to work for a while. Omar took quite a few shots from the Warhawk defenders but it didn't seem to phase him after the first few possesions.

For some reason, ULM chose to adjust to our offense by dropping eight men in coverage in the second half. Of course, that gave Omar all day to find his receiver or even scrammble for 10 yards a pop. Not sure what they were thinking!

    Should be an intersting game!

  10. If you were TD what would you throw at Troy?

My game plan would be a steady diet of J-Mo, Micah Mosley, Cam Montgomery, etc to keep the clock moving with a lot of the short to intermediate passing game mixed in. I would be about 60/40 run to pass. I wouldn't take a lot of deep shots and keep my play calling "low risk/low reward" in theory. If we have 10 possessions in the game and score (TD or FG) on 5-6 of them I would be ecstatic. If we could have a TOP somewhere in the 35-40:00 range I would with 21-35 points that is what I would shoot for. I know this sounds lot like Dickey ball but I think this is what it would take to beat Troy...at least until Gio grows up in the QB role more and the defense doesn't have shaky moments.

I think that would probably be a good game plan against us. You should keep in mind that we don't need a lot of time to score, which actually hurts late in the game when we need to run out the clock. TOP is not that big of a deal to our offense.....at least not so far.

  11. Just gazing at an arial view of Troy's stadium on Google Earth, it looks awesome. Looks like it holds 30k or so. Anybody know what their stadium is like?

Here's a little info on Movie Gallery Stadium..... (Check out pages 26 & 27 in the link below)

    http://www.nmnathletics.com/fls/17200/07_F...DB_OEM_ID=17200

The Troy University football program unveiled a

newly renovated, $18 million Movie Gallery Veterans

Stadium as the final piece of its Division I-A move in

fall 2003. The project, which took more than a year to

complete, increased the facility's seating capacity to

30,000, an increase of more than 12,000 seats.

Construction began on the project in July 2002

and was completed in time for the Trojans' 2003 home

opener against Southeast Louisiana on Sept. 20.

The stadium has seen tremendous growth and

change during its 54-year existence. It was built for a

mere $65,000 as Memorial Stadium in 1950 and seated

just 5,000 spectators. Several renovations followed,

including in 1998, when the facility moved from

    a 12,000-seat capacity to 17,500.

Construction began in July 2002 to expand

its capacity to 30,000, with the largest part of the

project being a new six-story press box structure

that houses 27 sky boxes, a state-of-the-art media

hosting facility, a unique Trojan Stadium Club

area that houses more than 1,000 guests, and

floors dedicated to sports medicine, academics

    and strength & conditioning.

As a part of the construction, the Jesse H.

Colley Track, which was housed at the stadium,

was relocated – making the stadium a footballonly

    venue.

Also gone is the prescription athletic turf,

replaced by "AstroPlay," an artificial surface that

closely resembles grass in feel and appearance.

Troy became one of the first schools in the Deep

South to install the turf. Ole Miss, Princeton, the U.S.

Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy (Army)

and the Air Force Academy all use the same product.

Several professional franchises have also installed the

product in recent years, including the Buffalo Bills.

A large-screen, endzone video board was also

installed, along with a state-of-the-art sound system.

  12. Wife and I are flying into Montgomery Friday Night and will be at the game. Come by UNT tailgate and say hello. Most of my paternal family is from AL ( Dothan and Anniston), but this will only be my second time in the state.

Do you know where you are going to tailgate? I park in the reserved lot directly behind the scoreboard, which is closest to where you are going to be sitting. You are more than welcome to hang out over there with my wife and I. There should be room to set up chairs, grills, etc. Remember, it is our homecoming and available spaces are going to be hard to come by.
