  1. Here is the truth:

a student manager ruined the basketball teams white uniforms early in the season.  That is why we wear grey at home.  We do not have WHITE for this season.

As far as the alternate colors: Black, Grey, etc.  that is what the recruits want to see.  Us OLD SCHOOL people would prefer GREEEN/WHITE, but we have to offer alternative uniforms to attract the athletes..  These kids want options!  Have you looked at Instagram or Snapchat lately?

Unless you are UT, Alabama or USC you need to do what these kids want.

I can promise you.  NO school wants to have all these uniforms options.  It cost a lot of money to have all these options.

I HATE that we are now using UNT instead of North Texas or Mean Green, but our President believes it is best that we use UNT for our logo.

You will no longer see North Texas on any products that are authorized by North Texas.  Supposedly they did a study and UNT was better?  I would like to see those results.   Everyone on this site went to some form of North Texas, but not UNT.  Also, UNT can be made into some bas words.

  2. It is not only Seth, it is his staff.  All great HC have excellent staffs around them.  We did not lose a coach this off season.  I do not want to lose Seth, but I'm more concerned of who he takes with him (probably everyone).  Wherever he goes, he will have more money for his assistants.  We might keep 1 or 2 if we hire 1 of them as the new HC and promote someone from the staff to a OC or DC, but I bet most of them will go with Seth and continue to build on what they started here together.

If we were to lose Seth, his replacement will have to compile a staff that not only can coach, but recruit like this staff has done over the past few years.

With that said, we should attract a talented coach.

nice so it wasn't a downpour

Did you not watch the game on TV?  What are you trying to prove with your argument?  It was raining and their fans showed up.  It was raining in Denton and our fans base bailed for the most part.  Someone  earlier in this thread asked for proof of fans showing in bad weather.  I watched the game when I got home so I knew of one, so I replied.

In any aspect where NT needs more support, it is never the right idea to sweep it under the rug, and it is always the right idea to get the message out. Though in this case, the message would be stronger if you show a picture of a big program with a lot of people out even with weather complications. I don't recall if there was such a situation yesterday. If so, you would want to also put that out there as a contrast and say something like, 'we can be as good as this program, but it means we have to act like them'.

Arkansas had over 51K in Little Rock Saturday in a downpour.  They have won 1 game this season

  5. It is my understanding that our AD department can recommend or schedule times.  Our HC would play every game at 11am if it were up to him.  Hard to keep kids involved waiting around all day waiting for a game.  AD department would prefer later times to accommodate our fans.

Saturday showed that most of our fan base are TRUE fair weather fans!  Disappointed in our turnout for a very GOOD football team.  We have to do better as a fan base.  We need to show up no matter the time or weather.

  6. A walk-on gets nothing financially other than swag/pregame meals mentioned previously from the team.  They must pay for everything unless traveling with the team.

They must get a meal plan, but they can eat in the team dining hall.  Even if you only get books, you are considered on scholarship.  This mainly happens in Olympic sports.  Those sports have to divide a number of ships by the team.   Baseball now has a 25% minimum scholarship requirement for any funding.  I believe baseball gets 11.9 ships for a 29 man roster.  Men's golf has 4 scholarships that they must split between their roster.

  7. What everyone is missing is I believe its a financial decision.   If we play early it does not cost the school any extra money.  The kids will still be on campus.  If we play later, they will have to bring the players, managers, equipment managers, staff, etc. and they have to house, feed at an added expense.

I do not think its a player decision, its an AD decision.  $$$$$

If you really want a different bowl game, Donate more to the program and our program can afford better things.

  8. UofH started a relief effort asking all FBS schools in Texas to provide their equipment truck to help transport donated goods to Houston.  This was put together in a matter of hours.

8 schools will participate, North Texas being one of them.  Trucks will arrive in Austin this morning to accept donations.

We need all North Texas alumni / fans in the Austin area to donate if possible.  Please help spread the word.

Donation Location / Date / Time:

    Today: August 31

    Time:  1pm - 5pm

Location: 1212 E. Anderson Lane, Austin TX 78752

They are asking for Non-perishable food (PULL TOP canned vegetables are of great need), personal care products, Cleaning supplies, baby / infant supplies, first aid items.

If each of us in the Mean Green Club would bring in one new member, that would be a good start.  I plan to do so.

Plus if we can increase our donations per member each year.  NT lacks in donor funding compared to most programs in the Group of 5.  I just ask that each of us make a point to give more if possible.  Whatever you can increase will help.  Every little bit helps.

I know some people are maxed out, but I also know that we have a bunch of members on this board that do a ton of complaining and do not give 1 dime to this program.

We can only get each program more competitive with better facilities to help in recruiting.  Facilities are built with the $$ that we donate.

Glad you brought up Paul Rice. That district with Plano, Lewisville, Gainsville, Bonham, South Grand Prairie, McKinney & Berkner was a real showcase for Rice to show how great he was.

My dad coached in that district so I got to see some great talent during those years.  Saw Rice play several times.  But, Earl Campbell was by far the best I've ever seen.  I saw Worster in that McKinney game but was too young to really remember.

Daunte Hickson, Randy Simmons had unbelievable HS careers, but college was derailed by injuries.

  11. I listened to Dana Holgorsen last week.  He said he cares less about recruiting rankings.  He recruits to his needs and who he thinks can help his team win.  He made the comment that his 2012 recruiting ranked in the 50's, they reshuffled the rankings this year and that class was moved to the Top 10.

Everyone needs to tap the brakes on the negativity.  3 years ago, we would have never been in the running for some of the kids we lost, ie McNeal.  At least we had a chance at him this time.

We all have to agree we needed WR's and OL.  I think we did well in those areas.
