Riley on the travel squad = No redshirt
One has nothing to do with the other. As long as he doesn't play, he will still be a redshirt.

There is a reason that he was recruited as a lb by the majority of D1 schools. Texas and Baylor were the only bcs schools that offered him a schollie as qb.

Men finished tied for 6th and Broussard finishes 9th overall. There were 20 teams there and they do seem to be playing better heading into conference.

They were 8th this weekend but were 5th the tournament before. So 5th place is their best finish thus far.

Again though, how does that compare to other schools. Yes they have a better options than the teams 60 years ago, but so does everyone else. I know of 2 kids where that was a factor. they chose to go to a school where they could play a round any time they wanted and not have to drive all around the metroplex to go play.

He was telling people that if A&M didn't offer, he was going to UNT. This guy is underrated because of baseball. He led the Houston area in stolen bases last year and didn't go through spring ball.

Kody Spano has been committed since last February and was the very first committ of the 08 class. He was 2 school days from graduating High School (set to enroll at stillwater in Jan.) and was told by Gundy that they no longer had room for him in January and that he would have to walk on this spring. They gave his spot to Markell Martin a safety they just got committed. Pretty crappy!!

Is the lack of OL and DL in this class. So far there is a total of 3 big uglies and that just isn't enough. You guys are tuned in much better than I am, where do we stand on getting some hogs in this class?

Many posters continue to ignore the content of the article; regarding Chapman? Chapman stated, in his opinion, “there are different set of rules for the black players” The issue is not whether the kids missed practice, used profanity at a coach or was insubordinate. Their claim is that the punishment has not been consistent. Right or wrong, they choose to involve the NAACP for mediation.
Thank God many of you have no decision making authority for the University. If you did, your actions would certainly have UNT all over Nightline and CNN. These individuals should not have their scholarships taken away because they filed a complaint with the NAACP. Secondly, they should not be retaliated against for filing a claim. UNT has a very active chapter of the NAACP for all students.
The great thing that should come out of this is that RV should ensure, going forward, that a liaison person be identified (between players and the coaches) This may already exist but the individual(s), unlike an academic advisor, would be the buffer between the player and coach; making sure that proper communication is always open and two way. Additionally, this person would be the sounding board for any other athlete with personal issues. We need to keep these young men in school and not thrown out because they were marginal ball players and/or brought some adverse attention to the school.
We have always had challenges maintaining the maximum number of scholarships due to various attrition reasons. RV, Dodge & staff should never be caught off guard with these types of allegations. The fact that they were, further indicate to me that a system of this nature is not in place and/or not working. Assign kids to mentor to help address their concerns.
Communication goes a long way in solving and/or avoiding conflict. Biases are often not intentional. With any new coach, there is a tendency to go with your guys opposed to those that you may have inherited. I see this in the work place all the time.
I would venture to guess that some frustration may be a result of the coaching staff desiring to use their kids. We have, after-all, burned a number of red-shirt to get their kids on the field. Green & Chapman are from the prior regime.
This season can’t end soon enough for me and others. The good news is that our coaching staff should not be labeled HS coaches anymore.
One last note and certainly not meant to be personal to any poster. Please understand that if Dodge didn’t have problems with Trey Newton and a few other black players (who grew up in affluent Southlake, Texas) that they have the same experiences of someone from the inner-city. Moreover, no one black person or Anglo person can speak for anyone else. We are all individuals with different backgrounds and experiences.
To our coaches and fans, don’t pigeon hole everyone into a set situation. Let the kids express themselves, listen to them and try to understand. Likewise to the kids! Understand and respect authority. When unsure, confused or both, ask for a discussion.
It tells me all I need to about a person's character when they run to a racist organization like the NAACP. It shows that they themselves are racist and it shows there character.

Anyone that goes to the NAACP shows the racism in their heart. This team is trying to build something special and to have people be racist and use a racist organization isn't what this team needs.

that game shows why the NFL is no where near as good as college football. The game is decided on the field, not by a coin toss like the NFL. NFL needs to have a real OT, not the joke they have now.

My first allegiance is to A&M, but I know players and coaches in the program at UNT. All I can say is give them some time. Guys you trully don't understand how bare the cupboards were when this regime came in. They are almost having to start from D1AA level as far as talent goes. That doesn't mean there was no talent, but there was very little. It will take some time. This year is not a rebuilding year, but a year of learning.
He didn't inherit alot of talent, especially for the style of play he wants. I am not talking about just skilled players but also the big uglies. Remember what those guys were recruited for. Smash mouth, grind it out football. TD wants his linemen to be athletes, not just big bodies. This will take some time. The explosion ability of many of these guys was not there and that will take more than 1 offseason to help improve.
Give the guy sometime and you will be glad that you did.

Telling friends or those affilliated with the school things you don't tell the press or public at large is not the problem. The problem comes when you sell that information for $1200 a pop. Was Dennis Parker trying to profiteer off the information he had like Franchione is? I hardly think so.
Yes, each coach does it. Do you think Parker invited everyone to that meeting. You had to be a big money contributor. Just like Beamer, Meyers, Brown, Stoops and such. They don't give info, they sell info. It makes the big money contributors feel special.

Don't be so quick to point fingers about this. I know for a fact that Dennis Parker use to meet with donors on Thursdays for home games and give access to information and would have something printed up for out of town games.
DD did something very similar to Parker and if I was a betting man Dodge does to. This is something that happens at every D1 school and there doesn't seem to be anything illegal about it.
Now with that said, there are plenty of other things to get Franchione canned, but this isn't one of them. If that was the case, there would be many schools without a coach.

Great Blog Vito. The ignorant haters on this board refuse to look at the facts. I don't hear them throwing the coaches under the bus when they pull a player from his scholarship b/c he isn't performing. Like you stated in your blog, players not given a 4 year scholarship. They are only guaranteed year to year.
