Random addition to a 2010 thread, but it pertains to UTEP. Mike Canales just was hired as the new OC/QB coach in El Paso

I believe what you are describing is a grayshirt.
Blueshirts show up to campus in the Fall and are essentially a 'walk-on', but are placed on scholarship as soon as the semester starts and their scholarship will be applied to the next year.
Ah yes, you are correct! My apologies, it’s been a few years and we didn’t have Blue shirts when I played! One of my roommates was grey shirted in 2013, I figured the terminology just changed.

Thanks...I didn't see that update. Can you please define Blueshirt. I'm familiar with Grayshirt. Blueshirt, not so much.
Similar to want MGNation92 said, a blue shirt means Fall 2018 he will not be on campus unless it is on his dime, and spring 2019 he will be on scholarship and redshirt fall 2019.

The buyout details will be key. He’s said he loves it there, and if he’s constantly winning conference championships he’ll most likely stay till something extremely attractive comes along.

Drought breakers?
I think there's a chance for one or more seniors to get into this years NFL draft.
Jeff Wilson (1215 yards in 11 games 6.5 yards per carry) might be the one to do it. Probably 2 or 3 others have outside chances.
What say you?
Lance Dunbar didn’t getting get drafted, and Jeff Wilson isn’t close to as good or consistent a as Lance was.

What if he drops another 30 pounds like he did last off season? He very well could and would still be massive but much lighter and move better.
He lost 30lbs this year and didn’t move much better. At 6’9” 330lbs he’s plenty lean. Feet are something you either have or don’t have. Think back to the days of Antonio Johnson playing LT. I don’t recall ever seeing someone beat him with speed.

I'm almost certain you mean holder, but really wish this wasn't a typo.
Having seen Quinn do both, both apply

The current OL coach cannot carry Brad Davis's water bottle (Brad Davis is worth two more wins on the season). The OL lived off what Coach Davis had taught them last year with very little, if any assistance from new guy. From Beaumont to Denton he was outcoached thoroughly at this level. What was exposed yesterday was the same damn thing the DE from SMU did to us the first game of the year, I was just amazed more opposing "D" did not pick up on it. When you have one OLineman have bad game or bad group of games, then we can point to the kid or kids, and lets remember these are kids, but when you have a group of three or four or the whole damn group having bad games back to back to back then its coaching and no changes were ever made because the current staff can point to the 9-3 season and go "look at the improvement". Put the blame where it belongs NO WAY Littrell keeps this guy.
The line with Brad Davis allowed more sacks than the line with Livingston. When a DE can run the hump and beat your tackle play after play, that isn’t on the coach. That’s on the players, you can only coach someone so much. And if your whole group is getting beat, then maybe that’s a clue that we don’t have the talent on the field to compete with good defensive fronts.

Sid Moore: Kicked off the team. I picked a good one this year.
Don’t forget he was a captain early on

I agree with seeing the younger guys. We need some serious help at offensive tackle. Both sides. Murray has proved for three years he can’t get it done on the edge. If we want to run the Mike Leach offense we need the Mike Leach lineman to do so.

Man, its hard to knock Mason Fine about anything since he has been such a pleasant surprise but he doesn't exactly have the best pocket presence and escapability I've seen from small quarterbacks. So yea, we need to find him some immediate help.
It’s hard to have pocket presence and eacapability when 3 seconds after the snap you’re having to run for your life.

Can we take a moment to address the horrendous play of our offensive line? I recall Vito writing an article about how Coach Langston had improved the play off the offensive line but the numbers do not lie. In 2012, UNT offensive line allowed 6 Sacks. In 2013 they allowed 11. 2014 was 33 and 2015 was 19. Brad Davis took over for Mike Simmonds last year and that line allowed 43 Sacks. This year going into the bowl game we’ve allowed 33. Mason Fine is getting absolutely assinated out there and running for his life as he has most of this season. When will the offensive line be held accountable? Jordan Murray has the size of a dream lineman but moves like he’s stepping in quick sand. The other tackle isn’t much better. I know a lot of the blame has been placed on our defense but a good offensive line changes the game as well.

Offensive Line Play

Barr couldn’t handle the speed of the games. Couldn’t call blitzes nor pick up stunts. And couldn’t learn plays. He’s an athlete with a lineman’s build, but up top can’t handle it
