    Whooo?

What's wrong with giving Shanbour a shot ?

He's worse than Fine, okay?  He's been here forever and a day and has never been able to beat out anyone.

He should have gone to an FCS school or Central or East Central Oklahoma...or, Missouri Southern or Pittsburg State...if he really wanted to play QB in college.

Our problem is that we have too many Shanbours on our roster - guys that belong on FCS or DII rosters.

I think a lot of kids in Shanbour's situation come here because it's the absolute last step before you go down to FCS.

You can't blame them for trying.  But, after two seasons of never seeing the field, a kid should be able to see that he's not ever going to start.

Shanbour probably would have been a decent FCS QB, and potentially great as a DII signal caller.

This coaching staff and the last one have been so thin at QB that they probably asked him to stay - knowing full well he'd never play.  Coaches need practice players.  That's what Shanbour has been here.

Reffett was not good in this game.  He seemed to have no answer or ability to make adjustments in the secondary.  Disappointing to see our secondary, which was supposed to be a strength, look so bad.

    True.

This goes without saying. Our OC jabbed with the run early. Saw that smug had 7-9 on any given play within 3 yards from the LOS and proceeded to call 50 out routes in a row. We were way, way out coached in this game. Everyone that throws in their 2 cents goes on to say "IF IF IF Sutton wasn't playing...." Well, he was. If we had to triple team his ass to take away half of his yards and touchdowns then you just have to risk it. Lowly fan board posters were saying this days leading into this game. And the coaching staff just, just, said, "Nope. Not doubling or tripling. And we'll do it 1 better, we're going cheat our safeties down. Then when it doesn't work early we're going to ignore it for 170 yards and 4 touchdowns."

The bottom line is this:  SMU beat our ass and didn't give up jack to Fine until they had ripped off 38 points in a row.

Shortly thereafter they get the stupid safety because our idiot coaches are throwing out of our end zone (a la Todd Dodge late in the 79-10 blowout at OU during his debut 10 years ago).

Just accept that you are beat and get the back ups some work at that point.

SMU had already begun to remove starters.  It was over.  Back ups need game experience.  Cosmetic scores and stats against their backups prove and help nothing.

  3. Between leading 10-0 to being behind 38-10, Mason Fine was the quarterback.

It was 54-17 with more than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, and SMU has guys on the field that will never see the field again this year...and, you are trying to sell Mason Fine as a great QB.

It's a joke.  He disappeared like last season.  Quit trying by to paint it as anything else.

Wilson couldn't bail us like he did three times last year.

The SMU game proves what many said before the season:  as Wilson goes, so goes UNT...in a supposed "Air Raid" offense.

  4. Please, stop it.  Here's perspective:  the same thing that happened last year happened last night - the offensive disappeared off the map for a large part of the game.

During that long stretch where the offense went into a coma, SMU began to kick our asses.

Last year, we won three games because Jeffrey Wilson busted loose in the second half of games we trailed and saved our bacon.

Wilson couldn't bail us out yesterday, and that was that.

After SMU lifted its starters, our offense magically reappeared.

You want me to be impressed that we scored 22 and piled up a bunch of yards against SMU's back-ups?

Sorry.  Not going to happen.  Statistics are not wins.

We had no Players of the Game yesterday.  The whole team got its ass kicked until SMU let up and took out its starters.

Wren can't make tough decisions. Hank and many of the hold overs from the AD are still here. He let Benford keep coaching about 4 months too long and extended a lame duck softball coach for no reason. Same ole same ole small time UNT athletics

11 people out of 10 can't even name the softball coach anyway...but, the rest of your post is spot on.

UTSA looks good running that McCarney style offense.

    *duck*

    Michigan, anyone?

Truth is, any offense looks good when it's working.

By the way, remember when Rich Rodriguez tried to bring the spread to Michigan?

The MTSU and UTSA  wins over P5 teams helps with the status of CUSA.

UTSA looked very physical and determined.

The Baylor coach looked a little lost.

He's not from around these here parts.  His dad was a Baptist pastor...in Pennsylvania!  That is what qualified him to move to Texas to miscoach a faltering Baylor program.

The special teams did no help for the defense with muffed punts in back to back weeks and putting the offense in shitty position as well..

wasnt entirely in the offense, but the 2nd quarter and early 3rd was terrible.

I will give Mason credit and we all should, at least his deep ball is A LOT better now..

    ...against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

YOU thought way too highly of them. I bet you BillySea didn't. Because he understands what the F is going on in recruiting.

You WANTED to lie to yourself. That lie is exposed. Will contact bye to be exposed next weekend. And will possibly be driven like a steak through your heart in the UAB game.

    But keep on being you.

Not just Billy, but also Cooley, who used to post.  He was too honest about the recruiting for most people's liking.

SMU bent us over like an FCS school because that's mainly what has been recruited here.

You simply can't be recruiting a roster half full of guys who didn't have even one other FBS offer.  Littrell has not changed the recruiting here.  It's hurting us.

I stayed and watched till the bitter end.  Do I earn a merit badge?

Calm down.  Fine and the receivers need all the work they can get.

Really?  When are they going to be facing another school's 2s and 3s on defense again?

    3 minutes ago, UNT90 said:

Actually I think they are about the same. Still no snap from under center in short yardage. SMU used it. We don't. Same stubborn mindset

No answer.  The truth just is what it is.

Honest question. Will we win more than 5 this year?

C-USA does suck, so...yes.  UTEP, Rice.  There's two.  Get lucky in two more and you're at five.

Hey...UAB!  Haven't played in two years, right!

See, five is still doable...in this conference, with this schedule.

It'll be just enough wins to keep many delusional through the FCS-worthy recruiting effort in the winter and into next fall.

In fact, I'm going to predict that if we get to five wins, Wren gives Seth another raise...and extension.

  11. SMU handled us the same way they did their FCS opponent tonight.  And, it makes sense because we recruit against FCS schools, stealing from the SFAs and McNeese States of the world.

Fortunately, Conference USA is about half full of schools like ours, so we could still go 6-6.

  12. Bean doesn't have anywhere close to the total yards, rushes, or passes as Rogers.  So, Rogers must start and play the majority of the game.  We've offered a scholarship to a guy who can't win the job at his own high school.  Pull his offer and give it to Rogers, the starter.

Or, better yet, hold it for a QB whose school does run an Air Raid or Spread offense...and, who is actually starting.
