...but that's all he did last night.   It's all he ever does.   If it's not a designed run, he'll make 1 very quick read & tuck/run if it's not there.

And obviously FAU did not know this about him, even though every Mean Green fan knew exactly what was coming.

It's like they thought, "Oh, next man up... same old Air Raid offense though.  We won't make any adjustments to our defense."

That said, I'm glad he got to do that in his last game at Apogee!

He did not tuck it and run at Iowa last year. From what I have heard is that he is very good at reading the Defense coverage which entails multiple reads. Those run plays last night were designed runs. He didn’t even drop to fain the pass. He is a run and shoot QB which is why different plays were called to take advantage of his style and capabilities.

good grief Littrell put Fine on the bench. What good is it doing other than padding golden boys stats, while also risking injury

You hit the nail on the head. This is all about padding Fine's stats. Shanbour has proven to be a capable player. They act as though there is no backup. If I were Shanbour I would be very upset.

Got it now. I do think it is time that Shanbour got some snaps with regularity. I understand the old cliche that if you have two quarterbacks...you have none. In spite of that school of thought, SL/GH need to work Shanbour in for a couple of series (minimum) in each game. It can only benefit us if Fine takes another shot and has to leave the game.

I cannot agree more, my sentiments exactly!!

Another sign that the team is improved over last year is that when Mason Fine went down right before half their second team QB took the team in for a score as if there was no change in QB's at all.

Of course mentioning that would require that he might have to mention Mr. Shanbours name. And it would also require an acknowledgment that Mr. Shanbour is capable of playing at this level.

Too much to ask I suppose.

Oh but there is a "significant drop off" should Fine ever go down!! Shanbour has no pedigree!! Walk ons rarely produce!! Now ask the Iowa Hawkeyes about his pedigree and if he can produce.

And while I'm at it. Coaches aren't the only ones with big egos. Sports writers who for a long time totally ignore the existence of certain players, and when they do acknowledge them they use dismissive terms, can have big egos too.

Have anyone particular in mind? 😊 What is kind of funny is that Shanbour's story and performance is a journalist's dream but we are talking about an ego that refuses to admit he was wrong and thinks he is more knowledgeable than any of us and that we shouldn't trust our own eyes and just listen to him. Shanbour was never broke in half while running and there is definitely no drop off in capabilities should Fine go down. He still can't admit Shanbour's positive impact on the team and his abilities. At least Littrell has admitted this to his credit.

I have no idea why coaches "hitch the wagons" but they (many of staffs) do this kind of garbage for no good reason.

Oh there is a reason. When asked in their interview at their next coaching job how well can you recruit? The coach can point to their recruit's stats. The alternative answer could be devestating to their career. An answer such as "well actually an unrecruited walk on beat out my recruit." This is why Shanbour will be used only as an insurance policy should Fine ever go down. In my opinion, he never really had a chance to start from the get go let alone be given the opportunity to see if he could build on his performance of that 1 series which he was in.

  7. Very dumb decision but totally understandable. Some coaches care more about stats for their recruit than wins, if you get my drift? There is no reason to put an injured Fine back in with 1:57 left and the game out of hand. Even when the SMU game was way out of reach, Harrell left his recruit in the whole game. Shanbour's curse is that he came in as an unrecruited player plain and simple. My hat is off to the kid who came in cold off the bench and put a Big 10 defense on their heels and stuffed it down their throats running and passing engineering a 66 yard TD drive in just :28 seconds only to be rewarded with more pine sitting.

This L isn't on the offense.. it's on the defense and crappy punting..

Preston, Kensworthy hurt us A LOT

BS. If we are going to beat teams with more talent, we need more playmakers back there other than Wilson. It is the O. The D is fatigued. You can't expect them to beat the teams with talent by having no sustained drives and constantly not convert on 3rd downs. That is a lot to ask a D to constantly hold the opposing offense. This so called D who lost the game held Iowa to 10 points in the 1st half when they had their legs.

Now, go back and look and see how many of those yards came after the score was 52-17 and SMU's 8th team was in the game.

The football intelligence of this board is f'n below zero.

At the half he had 105 yards passing.

    ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE!!!!

Ever think 10 in the box might affect the running game????

    So freaking stupid.

Yes, most of those deep passing yards were against the SMU subs. Harrell had confidence in him throwing downfield when the dogs were called off by SMU. Even last year he rarely threw deep downfield but when Morris came in, Harrell had no problem calling deep balls. Even when Shanbour came in on his only series last year, he had a long pass play. UNT90 is not off in his observation. I was wondering why wasn't there a play called for  Fine to go deep from the start?

But, much like Dajon Williams' game against Nicholls St. was a mirage, you can't look at one Spring Practice stat line and say he's an amazing QB.

And you can't just look at what's on paper and evaluate a kid like Vito does all the while ignoring what he is doing in practice and scrimmages. I am no fan of Shanbour or any other player for that matter. That being said, every time I have watched a practice or seen a scrimmage, he seems to stand out among the others. And with Harrell and Littrell speaking highly of him (see coaches caravan), I just think it is odd why Vito and you go out of your way to discount his abilities and effectiveness. Again I am not a Shanbour or Fine band wagoner . I just want to see the one who can best move the ball for UNT out there. UNT all the way!

Who's going to do better?  The guy who notoriously tucks/runs way too early?  The injured guy we have no idea about?  The true freshman who's "head is spinning"?

Fine is already ~1/5 of the way to your goal of 2K yds simply due to swing passes to Wilson/Tucker/Smith.

Make no mistake, Wilson is the engine of the offense.  He's going to get the ball.  "Air Raid" or not, you get the ball to your best playmakers.

Unless you are referring to someone other than Shanbour, I wouldn't call a guy who threw for 2 TDs and 253 yards with limited time in the spring scrimmage an early tuck it and run guy.
