  1. No the worm hasn't turned. We are off to playing some good football on both sides of the line of scrimmage. The front seven on defense and the OL have been the biggest difference makers this season, imo. Deloach has steadied the ship and Lefty has the line playing extremely well.

We have not played anybody that can throw the ball yet. Alabama throws the ball fair but so far this season, no one has had a QB who can throw. Our DB test is coming up in the next few weeks.

  2. #44 plays with an attitude on defense, who is gonna be that kid on offense? Cam, would be my pick along with Mosely.

Last year attitude is gone, #87 played with an attitude along with a "bum" who left the program.

I would like to see Outlaw or someone take over the role that Fitz held last season.

Close game will solely depend on the OL and DL play. DL favors Ball but OL favors Mean Green heavily....

Our offense line will be the difference this season with many of those getting to start their 3rd season.

  3. Because he has too much class, that's why.

    Rick

Oh Ricky, come on now. Senior football parents, who you "chatted' with last season, were just like these coaches, and you were right there with them.

You were right their with the Meagers and the Chad Roses knocking the crap out of our program and our staff.

Come on Rick, is class defined when your on tv or when you off camera?

  4. He CAN't be any good....... He wasn't coached by Todd Dodge...

TD has coached hs football for many, many seasons and up to now he has had two QB (QB's) become an All-American of some sort by several publications?

    Name that QB (s) ?

Will Riley out play this red shirt being a red shirt himself?

Riley should kill this kid, KNOWING THE DODGE SYSTEM SINCE HE WAS IN DIAPERS, shouldn't he?

Riley will toss out every freshman record at UNT, big pappa will see that through... Dodge boys LOVE RECORDS, especially about themselves.

    WE will BEAT Ball State...

I know of two Qb's Dodge coached who made All-American status. Chase Daniel and Vizza (freshman All-American). I believe his only other ALL-American was the overachieving stud named Casey Fitzgerald.

    Don't know of any others.

  5. Riley will be fine. Defense and special teams will win us games. The offense will be the exact same from the previous two seasons. Its up to the defense and special teams to show up and keep it close.

Riley will dink and dunk early on. Dodge will play it smart his first three or four starts with his son. Riley will set every freshman record imaginable considering he will be starting every game. That will be great for his confidence for next season. We are still one more year away but we should expect huge gains in the OL play (keeping Riley from getting the crap knocked out of him), we should have more legitimate WR's instead of just one possession receiver and an occasional snag by Brock. Hopefully, the wideouts catch the ball this season. I look for Dunbar in the slot and more screens to Lance as well.

The bulk of Vizza's rushing attempts were from sacks. His "planned" rushes were good. Riley's zone read rushes will be good and he will net possibly more yardage. Riley is faster but they both have quick burst speed. Vizza brought the fullback mentality that set a different type of tone. Riley brings the big gainer opportunities. Arm strength and toughness is a different story.

But its Deloach's season to make strides or he and Dodge will be burnt toast.

  6. Good answers. IF Texas State actually does increase their athletic budget to $25M and keeps focus of the goal they should get a shot. The trip to San Marcos would be easier than any we make now for a conference game. Good luck.

Texas State wants no part of the sun belt based on what I have read. They are looking for a completely different conference.

The track sucks but that could change. Much easier to build a simple track somewhere else than to build a new stadium, as we all know to well.

  7. 1. UNT's defensive front will be better.

It is hard to imagine that it will be worse. However, NT did lose it's most consistent player in Thomas and the fruit basket turnover at the defensive end position in the spring seems to indicate that the large number of returning de's are not deemed adequate. I would have thought that with Gilmore at one end and Skyes, Brown, Owusu-Hemeng, Cole available at the other end that this position would improve. The Spring starters at de were Cantly and Akpunka who neither looked as good as walk on Nailor in the Spring game. The defensive tackle positions looks even more unsettled with Ross looking like the most likely starter. The staff does not seem that impressed with the rest of the dts available in the spring and it is likely that Atkinson will take the other position or Cantly will be moved back inside.

I will buy that the defensive front will be better but I am not sure it is going to improve enough to be even Belt level average. If Gilmore stays at end, I think that position will be significantly better than last year, but I am not convinced that NT has the answers at the tackles position.

    2. UNT's defensive secondary will be better because it is more experienced.

I think the secondary will be much improved not primarily because of experience but because I think the talent level is been substantially upgraded.

Yes, a years experience will benefit Royce Hill, Adams, Shorter, Williams and others. The addition of transfers Smith and Chatman will also help. It is not lost on me that Bush a three year starter at corner back is having to fight for a spot in the rotation against Adams, Smith and Hill. The safety position with Shorter, Williams and Cook also seems to be much stronger.

IMO, the defensive secondary could turn into the strength of the team. The problem is can be defensive line give them some help with a decent pass rush.

    3. UNT's linebackers will be a strength of the team.

Two of NT's best players are Nwigwe and Robertson and both have experience and talent. The third line backer is the question. Will Kyle Hill remain in that position or will Phillips, Prior or perhaps even Penson, last years starter, end up in that position. Whatever happens with the second outside linebacker position, NT should be almong the leagues best at the linebacker position.

    4. This year could be the turning point - finally - for UNT's defense.

Despite last years lesson, I don't think NT's defense can get worse. In fact I think with the talent level improved, experience at most positions, and an a coaching overhaul that the defensive unit will be significantly improved. No, it will be far from dominating but with just a little help in the defensive line; I think it could at least be competitive in the Belt. In fact, I can see the defense being better than the offense this year.

Defense, barring injuries, will win us some games. And definitely keep games more respectable. Lets start with Ball State, be competitive and it will give us some much needed confidence.
