  1. Noone really knows what happened except for those coaches that were on the staff...speculation and stories from other sources are usually just rumors or half of the story. And what could Kenny Evans had done about the uniforms? Tell Dickey no? Stop trying to put Evan's judgment in question. Of course I have a more personal view on this subject...the Dickey regime is what gave me an opportunity to become a captain and contributor to UNT my final two seasons. Evans, Dickey, and De Loach have all earned my loyalty for life. I've made mistakes and I would hate for one of my loyal friends or associates to turn on me for those mistakes. Everyone has moved on...Dickey is happy, Evans is happy, and UNT is happy. This started off as a blog updating us on Coach Evans, now it turns into a Dickey Black Uniform Bashing Party....If Evans was really going along with the Black Uniform idea don't you think he would've worn the black coaching shirts and pants too...Get over it and let's support the current Mean Green Football team and coaches. And please stop the speculations...like the JFK murder you will never know...unless stone makes a movie about it.....

I am not the athlete I used to be. I played in last years game and didn't perform very well.

    Positives:

Played for the Mean Green from 1997-2000 was voted all Big West 2nd Team Saftey and Honorable Mention in 98 and 99. 4th on the team in tackles both of those years. I coach football that might be my best asset to the team. I was coached by Gary Deloach

    Negatives:

I'm a better coach then I was a player (well except for that one year I coached at UNT, I was horrible). My hands are very average, I had one int (Against Arizona State) in my career with numerous PBU's that should have been picks.

    Predictions:

I'm guessing no one will listen to my warnings about my football skills being gone....I'm guessing on a top 10 pic in the draft....

  3. Damon West was the starting QB for the Mean Green in 1996 I believe. I don't know if he started the whole season, but I know he started against Arizona State. We were going in to score, ran an option play and he fumbled it at the 1. I beleive they picked it up and took it 99 yards for the score. Remember Arizona State had Plummer that year and were number 1 for the majority of the year. I believe they lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. My details my be a little sketchy, but he did play QB for us.

  4. I would say that Sean Warren is a very solid player and probably got better while at Blinn. How would I know this? Well, I recruited Sean out of Texas High pretty hard, he even came to one of our mini camps. The only problem people had with him was that he was "undersized". I guess he got lost in the shuffle with the coaching change. Good kid and a great support system within his family if I remember correctly. I hope he finally get's a chance to play for the Mean Green.

  5. I took a look at the 2008 Oil Bowl web site this morning. I could not see all of the web

site addres to enable me to post the Oil Bowl address for all of you.

The Texas team roster has 3 North Texas class of 2008, recruits listed.

One of the 3 players, is a surprise listing- Chris Brainard, WR, 6-0, 175lbs

South Lake Carroll. Did Chris sign a LOI, or is he going to walk on?

Either way, I hope he does come to North Texas.

The other 2 Oil Bowl players are Troy Franklin, OT-DL, 6-5, 295lbs, Celina, and

    Darien Williams, QB-DB, 5-11, 195lbs, Vernon.

Looks like both the Texas and Oklahoma rosters have many "undecided"

players, many from 1A-2A and other programs. I noticed on the Oklahoma

roster, Andrew Rodgers, OG-DT, 6-2, 290lbs Tulsa East Central HS as a

undecided. May be worth checking out? This game will be the last football

game for most of these HS athletes, unless the undecided kids are going

to walk on to some school. Either way, being invited to the Oil Bowl is

a honor, and these kids should be proud of their accomplishments!

Now, I hope none of the North Texas recruits get injured. Some other schools

like Texas and Tx Tech do not allow their recruits to play in these "All-Star" games.

Like UNTLifer said it's a great honor to be selected to play in these all star games. I know the THSCA All Star game is the biggest honor a kid from Texas can achieve in high school. By the way Texas and Texas Tech along with every other major university in Texas allows their kids to play in this game. I actually coached in this game a couple of years ago and we had several players from these univesities on our roster. The Oil Bowl i'm not sure of, but if you're invited to the THSCA game, you're playing.

  6. I had a great time! I must admit i'm really feeling it this morning. FFR talks about us being able to fly, but I must agree with Emmit us "ringers" were very much on level with everyone else. How many balls did I drop? Two I believe. It was nice to finally put some faces to the names. Next year I vow to be in better shape......or maybe not. The good thing is we won!! Thanks guys!

Positves: I use to play football for the Mean Green. I use to run a 4.47 40 yard dash. I use to be one of the best open field tacklers that you've seen. I use to have a 38 1/2 inch verticle jump. I once tackled LT (yeah that one) one on one in the open field. I use to be a pretty darn good athlete.

Negatives: All those things listed above where things I use to be able to do. Now i'm older, slower, less athletic and way out of shape.

Draft Predictions: Don't be fooled guys I played in a flag football league last year and I swore I would never play football again.

Career Highlights: 13 Tackles vs Oklahoma. 14 Tackles Vs Texas Tech. 17 Tackles vs Arkansas State. Three beautiful children Ethan Ramone (5), Victoria Denise and Tristan Antjuan (4 year old boy girl twins).

Player Quotes: "You either like me or love me...choose one."

    Okay Fellas i'm in!

  8. Looks like North Texas went all out in trying to get DeLoach. Now some of you are probably saying "all out"? Malaone makes 80,000 more as an assistant at A & M! We have to also look at DeLoach is probably the highest paid assistant in UNT history. I'm not positive, but I bet that's true. I'm sure they got DeLoach as much as their budget would allow. I'm glad he took the job and that he believes in the Mean Green!

  9. I've been told by someone who was/is close to the program "Deloach was never surprised on game day. There was nothing the other team threw at us that Deloach hadn't seen."

That is true. DeLoach spent hours in the film room drawing up cards and studying tendacies. When he said "Watch out for this..." , you could bet that it was about to happen. I think i've posted more on this topic then any other on the board. I'm just saying that I was a well coached individual.

  10. Ramone,

Would you ever consider coming back to North Texas as a coach? It sounds like you have a very solid relationship with DeLoach and with most of the championship players graduated - it would be nice to have someone in the locker room talk about how the Green Curtain was such a dominating force back in the 2002 run. Sometimes inspirational stories do just that - inspire players to play above their natural ability. I really appreciate how you have become involved as a fan... I think that you would be an asset to the coaching staff. Just my $.02.

I love North Texas. What else can I say?

  11. I can't say enough about how much I loved DeLoach. Not just as a player but as a person. He really cared about the players that he coached and it showed on the field and off. I knew nothing about the defensive backfield when I was moved from running back. I must admit I was lost. DeLoach comes in that spring with Dickey. I go into fall two a days as the 5th cornerback. In two weeks i'm starting against Oklahoma. I give DeLoach alot of credit for that. I was so excited for him when he got the UCLA job. If he comes back I will be even more excited for the Mean Green!
