  1. We have not had a rival since East Teas State way back in the thirties and forties. We tried to have Memphis and Tulsa as rivals in the old MVC,  but it didn't work. We have a chance at rivalries now if we can  just do it. Good attendance at in`state contests will certainly help. This week`end is a good place to start so get to town early and be in your seats for the kickoff.

  2. I predict  ( or hope ) 19-20K. Could be much more with proper marketing involving the A Train. More about that later.

Sorry for the double rely. I have been off the board for awhile.

  3. How does a game day schedule with shuttles launch in July? It is admittedly late, so maybe I'm not comprehending.

As for that building downtown, for some ungodly reason, I had to take ethics there in 2010. Not one student or the professor was Dallas based. UNT just arbitrarily decided that everybody needed an extra eighty mile round trip and paid parking every week. Sucked. And I got one of my only two B's in that class. Screw that building.

Well hells bells, oldguystudent. Excuse my young ass for living. If I had KNOWN you got a B in that nationally known architectural treasure, I would not even have considered wanting a law school there. Only two B's you say? Don't worry, we won't hold your remaining C's and D's against you.

  4. Yep, let's extend the football season by expanding the number of playoff teams. And the same people are concerned about concussions in football?

Not to mention student athletes and finals and all that. What a ration of hypocritical garbage. Good news - we are getting a baseball team and playoffs are in the summer. Why don't the colleges just go ahead and sell their football teams to Jerry Jones and the other owners and let them run their own farm teams? Of course, that would be the honest and ethical thing to do and money got in the way of honest and ethical when it comes to college football a long time ago.

  5. We are burying the lead here... this is exactly what so many have been clamoring for for so many years! the school and the city collaborating should be making this board jump for joy, not bitch about the law school or lack there of.

We all know that it is going to take more than one year of winning and more than one year of this project to achieve what we know the potential of this place to be, but damn it, we have to strike somewhere and finally we have a hot iron!

    GMG

I agree, hickoyhouse, Brandeis University and law school are relatively new (1948) and started from scratch. Of course, UNT-Dallas Law will not be Brandeis for a while, but it's a start. I think the UNT letters on old Dallas City Hall , a wonderful and historic old building by the way, in a booming downtown Dallas is kind of neat.

  6. Texas A&M filled the need for a public law school in DFW by buying Wesleyan Law. Something we had the opportunity to do years ago but made another stunningly bad decision and passed.

I doubt you ever see Royce West Law... I mean UNT-DALLAS law open its doors.

Someone told me once that it was Weselyn that backed out of this deal. Whatever, we should have had both a law and engineering school a long time ago.

  7. UNT Law opens this Fall according to their website: http://lawschool.untsystem.edu/

I went to to website and it showed the old Titche's building. I thought the law school was going to be in the old Dallas City Hall building that the city of Dallas donated millions of dollars to renovate. Renovating and using that venerable old building has always been a major appeal of having a law school there, whatever the name. Harry, if you (or anyone) has any information on this, please let us know.

  8. That number also includes Houston's law school students. Soon we will be able to do the sane thing.

    Oh, wait...

I forgot we have a waste of space for a Chancellor that screwed that and many many more things up.

Good News? I doubt UNT-DALLAS law ever happens

It's supposed to happen, but things are sure quiet around old Dallas City Hall every time I go by there.

  9. This is great news and a long time coming. As I wrote in a previous post, we need to get schmoo involved in the DCTA/ DART thing. I want to see a lot of their fans at Apogee every year that we play at home and vice-versa with us at Ford. It is time for the Safeway series to give way to the A- Train series. This could be a real event every year and this could be the year we sell out Apogee. Long distances or short, trains are fun, convenient and SAFE. GMG!

  10. The "flat enrollment" reference in the DMN today is disappointing for a school that has shown increasing enrollment for years. Are we about to be left behind by the likes of UTA and Texas State? I realize that selling a university is not the same as selling soap, but we are simply not projecting a very attractive image lately despite our recent success in football and other sports. Is there any one out there capable of producing an effective and attractive billboard for example? Are we so ashamed of our campus that we avoid showing pictures of it. We advertise ourselves as the most comprehensive university around here, but seldom seem to present any visual evidence that comprehensiveness. The visual promotions we do project are generic and lackluster while our slogans are uninspired and fall into the counterproductive "Were cheap, come here" category.

We are a wonderful university with a rich and unique history, but who would know?

  11. It was not a signature win, but the game I remember against Texas was in the seventies when Darrell Royal and Hayden Fry were coaching. We came very close to winning that game against Texas and Earl Cambell. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember Walter Chapman missing that game after being hurt the week before. He might have made the difference. We sat right behind the Texas bench for that game and, believe me, those guys knew they had been in a ball game and were fortunate to win.

  12. We need some kind of signage around Dallas to promote the SMU game ( perhaps in conjunction with SMU) that would get our alumni base and SMU fans to the game. To do that, we should advertise the hell out of DART and the A Train as a way to get to the game. The SMU express could get people to the DART line that connects to the A train and the UNT shuttle could bring people to the game from downtown Denton. If I were a downtown merchant I would be pushing this idea like crazy. Why should all those fans from Dallas bypass downtown and completely skirt Denton in their automobiles?

We need to use billboards, newspaper ads radio-tv spots and any other means possible to promote this game and safely get people to Apogee. I know these things can be expensive, but they will more than pay for themselves if we can get people to our games in something besides an automobile. The SMU game is an excellent opportunity to really get this thing going. Billboards and newspapers may seem old fashioned to some, but they still work.

  13. It is difficult to believe that Amtrak, given sufficient notice, would not gladly provide extra cars for an event like this. It a train, after all. not a stadium or theatre and cars can be added. Whether some part of the administration has the forethought, imagination or even the intelligence to pursue this or not, I will be disembarking at Austin station around six- thirty friday afternoon, fully refreshed following an afternoon nap and perhaps a few cold ones in the club car. I will be ready to rock and roll. For those of you who will be stuck in the traffic hell of 1-35 outside Austin following a tedious and dangerous four hour drive at that time, good luck and I will see you at the game. Oh, did I mention the ride home? I'll be snoozing and cruising. GO MEAN GREEN.

  14. This right here, this needs to be marketed by North Texas ASAP.

I agree. How about a "GET ON BOARD WITH SCRAPPY" campaign? This thing, promoted well, could be very effective in getting fans to away games (UTSA, Rice, perhaps UTEP etc.). It would also be a lot of fun and the start of a new tradition {actually a return to an old one). The sight of hundreds of UNT fans boarding the train in Ft Worth And Dallas and then disembarking in Austin would be media worthy as well. Hells bells, it is even environmentally worthy for a school that is supposed to be pro environment. I could go on and on. Lets do this thing.

Incidentally, the Amtrak station is in downtown Austin and in walking to downtown hotels with many good bars in between.
