  1. Story isn't up on MGSports yet, but NT finishes 6th in both the Men's and Women's. A bit disappointing to be honest. Hopefully we have acouple of folks who move on to the Regionals as individuals.

The whole team can go to regionals, its not a qualifying event. The question is, will the coaches take the whole team? Probably not, as they should not. The guys team consists of two New Zealanders and a handful of walk-ons. I blame this poor finish on the coaching change that occurred this fall. The new distance coach has not had any time to recruit as he came in during August. Also, it takes time to develop runners, so he has not had that time either. Give him a couple years and I think we will be at the top of the Sunbelt again. He is a very passionate young guy. Good recruits will love him. I think they will only take the top two guys to regionals as Patrick Strong might have a chance to move on, if he has an outstanding race at regionals.

The cross team has consistently finished in the top 4 in the past 5 or 6 years. This is not terrible though. We beat half of the conference. I think the team will be there once some recruits come in. Let's not be too disappointed. How many pointless years did Dodge have?

  2. So, if RV were to reassign him before the season ended what position would he take?

    Fundraising? Assistant AD?

I would find it disrespectful to make him an assistant HC under a new HC. I would hope he nor RV would stand for that.

It would also be in poor taste to demote him to a lowly position within the athletic department... janitor or even a strength coach or the like.

Any comments on this? Has any other school done this in the recent past?

After looking at the way the season is playing out and TD's contract, I would not put this past the school... I wouldn't put it past myself if I were in RV's position.

  3. I think that I know the answer to these questions as to why Chase and Teagarden are not listed as QB's.

    QB's listed at 6' exactly:

    Riley

    Chase Baine

    Teagarden

    QB's listed at 6'4"

    Derek Thompson

    Nathan Tune

We all know that Riley's height has been a question mark all along. I have a feeling that the same standard applies to Chase and Teagarden. But, Chase and Teagarden did not come in as 3 star athletes.

I know for a fact that Riley is not close to 6 ft. I am 6'1" and he is much shorter than me as compared in person.

  4. Its funny how the length of time it takes for a coach to develop a team increases a year each year.

Four years is more than plenty. They are all Dodge's athletes.

I'm not on the Dodge train... I'm on the North Texas train. If Dodge is best for NT then so be it, if he is not then so be it. I'm starting to think he is not. I don't understand those who are 100% for Dodge this far into his career with us. The fact is, we are loosing.

When the track team placed 4th in conference this year, you guys thought that was terrible. Yet we have a team that has not won more than 2 conference games a season and you're ok with the coach? Ridiculous.

  5. I agree with most of your post.

However, you are falsely attributing the Report that Lane Rawlins asked his colleague to produce for UNT administrators to RV.

I should have clarified what I meant. I did not credit RV with assigning the report, yet I meant that the report should not have changed the outlook of his job because all it did is repeat stuff that he should have known.

  6. Thanks for the reply.

I like to try and keep things realistic. I believe that we have much hope in realistic thought. Sometimes it just sounds bland at best. But I understand and I am not trying to "steal" anyone's happiness. We have a reason to be happy this week and a reason to celebrate! I do hope that this change in the coaching logistics will continue to carry though to the field like we saw yesterday.

Both the men's and women's teams dominated the annual home meet this weekend (8k). It was not the most competitive of meets but sure did have some good runners involved. The women should take pride in beating SMU, who usually dominates this meet. The women took the top 2 spots and the men's Patrick Strong took the top spot beating the 2nd place runner by a minute (impressive!).

The women's team looks strong this year but the men's team is not as deep as it has been in the past few years. I think the new coach is really going to do well with this team in the coming years. I look for both teams to place in the top 2 of conference next season. He has had no time to recruit or develop this season.

  8. I'm amused at the people on this board that predict that we win 90% of the games we play and basically say "I told you so" when we win the few that we have. They fail to realize that they are wrong the majority of the time.

Nonetheless, this win is a breath of fresh air for us all. Something finally went right for the Mean Green. Let us not be overly zealous though and keep expectations high, hoping that this is one of many more this year. Just because we squeeze this one out, Dodge should not be even close to off the hook and neither should RV... especially with such a bogus/waste of paper report that came out this week.

  9. That report is ridiculous. Whoever hired this fool should be questioned. I, as well as 75% of the members on this board, could have typed that piece of trash up and told you exactly what it said. Although I think most of us would be able to count to four: it first states that UNT has the 5th largest budget in the Sun Belt and goes on to say, a couple paragraphs later, that only three Sun Belt schools have budgets larger than ours and ends with a bar graph that shows that we are fourth in the Sun Belt.

I'm positive that everything in the report has been discussed on this board within the last six months.

I'm thankful that I received free tuition to this school. I would be very disappointed if I paid for a joker to type up a ridiculously freshman level report that included everything we had already known. Our hope is slipping away.

  10. Isn't UTSA starting a football program in the next year or two? I think it was them that I read about a week or two ago. Anyway, a lot of "younger" schools start without football and then build up to getting it. Very few Universities go without football in the long-term. Though not everybody's into it, it's one of the biggest marketing and retention tools overall. I wish art was the same way, hell, that would definitely help me and some of my friends, but it just isn't. Schools that don't have football and actually grow instead of folding almost always end up with a football program. Well, at least in the USA ;)

But all that is beside the point. THE OTHER TEAMS STILL COMPETE WHEN THE SCHOOL HAS NO FOOTBALL TEAM.

Again, I am for our football team. I am just making the point that it is not holding up the other teams.

  11. Well football isn't going away because we are getting a brand spanking new stadium one year from now so get over your whole get rid of football rant. Even with a god awful football team even our athletics are making it. We aren't Texas and probably never will be but if you think things aren't looking up then it only seems you are stubborn to look beyond Dodge era. I hate this Dodge era just as much as anybody but I think the next coach will be legitimate and credible and will produce far better results than Dodge.

Can you guys read? I stated already in my first post that I am not for ridding NT of football. I just said its possible for an athletic program to make it without football. READ, DON'T JUST POST NON-SENSE.

There are plenty of school across the nation without football teams that successfully compete in other programs. Look at UTA and UTSA. Both of them have decent athletic programs without football. Therefore, you don't have to have football to have an athletic program. They are both fully funded athletic programs.

But I must finish by saying this again... I AM NOT FOR RIDDING UNT OF FOOTBALL. I just was stating the point that football is not make or break for the other teams.
