  1. SAM Coach, are you still on the same kick? If we were any FBS league except the SBC (which even most its top teams are down this season) conference wins might pack more punch --but in 10 years of the SBC we have (still) not had any of our schools in the Top 25 and I'm not sure even Top 50 (although I stand to be corrected on that one).

So just sue us, SAM Coach, because Harry's polls still say most NT Exes want to go another direction with this hire. We've tried all the others the last 6 hires. Can you accept that w/o making all this so personal to (it seems) mostly you?

Be around Mean Green football since the early 1970's and then try to understand where some of us are coming from, OK?

    GMG!

"SAM Coach, are you still on the same kick?"

    -PlummMeanGreen

No Jim...I'm not on the same kick. But, what else can a coach do if it's not win games? Lose them! Would that be more acceptable? You obviously don't care about wins or losses because neither pleases you. Your entire agenda is transparent and has nothing to do with football. Why else would you publicly scoff at your school for winning games. What a shame!

And if Dorothy's Aunt Em had balls she'd be Uncle Em! But guess what? She didn't; and UNT does play in the SBC

See that's the problem right there! We've moved on and you're still stuck back in 70's

  2. My bet is that neither Leavitt nor Leach gets a head coaching job while their lawsuits are unresolved.

It's a shame because they're both good coaches.

I'm guessing Leavitt will be an assistant in the NFL before he gets an opportunity to coach at the college level again. He recognizes that he needs to reinvent himself and that probably won't happen at the college football level.

  3. Well actually what I said is that the SBC wins should not even be considered. The not-stellar K-State team obliterated Texas. Now I have seen Texas play several times this year, in person, and one must wonder if they will get by FAU. (Of course I recognize they may come together and obliterate FAU but man have they been bad.) But still, KS did prove they are a big-time program. If the coach can prove he can get our little program a win against a big program, I'm on board. Do you recall any such thing ever happening before for us?

"Well actually what I said is that the SBC wins should not even be considered" -Aquila_Viridis

Apparently some have lost their perspective when conference wins are no longer good enough.

  4. Besides the OU guy when will we get another to compare with a 25 year journeyman "assistant" coach who for whatever reason he and his politicos have some sense of entitlement for this job at "OUR" school?

Hey, 25 years as an assistant and now North Texas is the chosen school to make his HFC's debut with wins over pathetically weak SBC schools as his measuring stick? Who at North Texas will be able to use those cognitive skills to interpret that alone?

Something is beginning to smell afoul with all of this "hurry up & make this happen" M.O. and I hope the right ones on campus will just do more research here.

Can he recruit Texas? (So UNT would give him a 5 year contract as to get the answer to that question)? How many more 5 year plans do we really want in Denton? Seems we've really had our quota of those the last umpteen years.

I hope this Prez' and the BOR's will really think about the P.R. aspects of what they are going to do very soon--no matter the hire.

I defer to the signature below:

Well Jimmy I agree, let's hope the University President and BOR's can handle this decision on their own. With the PR aspects of what they are going to do very soon; they may need an objective well connected resource like yourself. I nominate you to be the unbiased voice of the people to choose our next HC. I know this would take you out of your comfort zone, but please don't hold back. Let everyone know how you really feel (over and over and over and over and over again).

  5. A PM from one of the Sicilian's hit squad has made me change my mind. Sicilian, right?

Go over to the UTA board and try to get him hired there! Just tell the Movin' Mavs people he's been a HFC the last 25 years and this year he's beaten some mighty powerful SBC schools  to get on an alleged candidate list at UNT. Also, tell them to get ready for a no hold barred self promotion that Professor Harold Hill (The Music Man pied piper) would be proud of. Can you handle it?

"Please Do Hear Me Out: I don't care who we get for our next new HFC at UNT as long as he has the talent and true capabilities to take us up to the next level"

    -PlummMeanGreen

"If Rawlins and RV and Neinas all agree its Coach Chico, then those of us who can will bury the hatchet, sing Kum Bah Yah and will fall in line with Coach Chico with our undivided support and that is a promise because.....If he is successful then our MG football program will be, too, and isn't that what this is all about in the first place"

    -PlummMeanGreen

Multiple Personality Disorder at it's finest on display for all to see...

Which Plumm will post next? Happy Plumm? Mean Plumm? I don't care Plumm? Sing Kum Bah Yah Plumm? Hit squad Plumm? I support anyone Plumm? I support only a former HC Plumm? Isolate and demonize Plumm? I have so many connections, friends etc... Plumm? I defer all the decision making to Rawilns and Neina's Plumm?

The only thing consistent about PlummMeanGreen is the inconsistency...

  6. Heard Venbable was a Texas HS recruiting goat ropin' son of a gun.

Whoever we hire would probably know that Houston is in south Texas (near Galveston) and Dallas-Fort Worth in the northern part of our great state (near, uh, Denton), but should he might also have a general knowledge of where Tenaha, Timpson, Bobo and Blair, Texas are, too? Interpretation of That? Small Texas towns where project recruits and a staff who can evaulate talent at smaller Texas HS settings of which some such recruits might turn into good FBS college football level players.

I don't care who we hire, but am really trusting (and defering) all this discussion going on at GMG.com to our new Prez'(with his BOR's input, too); again, our UNT president who had the same title at much larger athletic outposts than UNT with Washington State and Memphis. I believe our new Prez' will listen to Chuck Nenias who UNT is paying nicely for us to maybe listen to his recommendations?

And then......... whoever Neinas suggests UNT actually highly considers in light of the very high stakes now with possible the need of (hopefully) a familar face kind of hire with FBS HFC experience to enhance & help sell to the casual fans our New Era/New Stadium/And Need of a Corporate Sponsor (to basically pay for the rest of our stadium that our UNT student fee will not pay for); anyway, then our UNT powers gently persuades RV what direction we probably really need to go on with this next hire (since our past hires have not taken us to any Top 50 finishes might just be one of their criteria)? NOTE: Of course, Top 25 would be nice but we need to jump this huge hurdle of getting past where we've been for quite a long, long time first.

It would be a win-win for any AD at North Texas to want to share this hire with a new president since the Todd Dodge hire just didn't work. I have no idea how many bad football hires an AD at any FBS level school is allowed? And then how long till our powers start wanting higher echelon hires to start producting (minimum) Top 50 football programs. (Boise sorta' showed us if the can be in Top 25 then surely North Texas will soon be able to be at least a Top 50 fixture?

Or do we keep our goals where they've been most of us Old Gun Alum's adult lives? Young Gunners, on your behalf, you don't want to wake up suddenly being 60 and see your athletic dept. has not in most your lifetimes produced any major varsity sport with any ranking inside the Top 50.

So.......Local Media (all 1 of you) are you really in support of the same ol' 6 & 7 in Denton? What level of the the FBS would you, Denton Local Media, have the most fun reporting on anyway? Your answer would tell us much;)

You say you don't care who we hire in one sentence, and spend the rest of your post saying the complete opposite. Unfreakin believable! If you read this post by PlummMean Green; you've truly witnessed someone posting from both sides of their mouth.

  7. He doesn't care about the junior high popularity contest, just what is best for North Texas.

    Rick

Really? So Jim Plummer writing letters to school administrators telling them how to do their job is what's best for North Texas? Really? Let's not forget the fact that these are highly compensated administrators with years of experience making these types of decisions. I sincerely doubt a part time DJ/message board troll has any influence on their decision. But, if Jimmy wants to keep writing his letters, than dat-gummit Jimmy you keep writing your letters.

    Peace out!

  8. I stand by what I will thank you for highlighting so effectively and one of the main themes with some of that group was:

"How come this guy's obvious smack board hit squad think there is such an "entitlement" for him to get our UNT HFC's job? 25 years as an assistant coach and beating SBC schools with losing records gives him that entitlement? Oh, brother........."

I feel Lane Rawlins will take the recommendation of Chuck Neinas and "suggest" to our AD who we probably need to hire. I (with others) wish our AD would have nipped much of this in the bud when he could have.

    That's all...signing out...good night, irene!

That's why I highlighted YOUR WORDS Jimmy. You're are so connected and talk to so many people with so much insight that I wanted to engrave your comments on my signature.

"Entitlement"? Dude please! Your opinion means no more than any of the other posters on this board. "Smack board hit squad"? WTF -There isn't a poster that talks more smack than you. You've got so much red as a result of all the shat you talk, a year supply of tampons wouldn't bail you out.

  9. Be Put On Notice This: One alum (and it wasn't me) has already reported to Rawlins the guerilla warfare kind of "isolate & demonize" tactics Canales supporters (most with very few posts) have used toward longtime supporters of UNT and I will take a wild guess that he will not be amused with that style and that's a fact, Jack.

OK, it was a poster who works at UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth whose connected, but that's all I can or will say.

That's ironic because one alum I know reported to Rawlins that UNT just won 2 of 3 games by isolating and demonizing the competition. He's well connected also. He said Rawlins was very pleased with this tactical approach. That's a fact Jack!

Must be nice to be so connected like you Jimmy...

  10. No. It's an indication that 71 recruits (if that number is correct) took a recruiting trip. No one has signed on the dotted line.

He should have to present his history of recruiting while at S. Forida, including player names and contact info for said players that he was responsible for bringing into the program. Ditto for Arizona. The claims should be verified with the graduated players (which could also give insight into Canales value/problems).

He should have to present a comprehensive plan for taking this program forward.

Winning against a bad WKU team and a MTSU team that is falling apart is nice (hell, any win at this point is nice), but there should be greater criteria applied in the interview for a new coach.

Interesting points, yet even more interesting is the opportunity to be considered for a HC position while being a HC. In most cases, it's a coordinator with no HC experience that's in line for HC role or a former HC. Is there any guarantee to what someone will do as a HC? Not really.

I believe Canales has demonstrated the ability to put Ws on the board immediately. How is he doing it? I have no idea. But he is doing it RIGHT NOW AT UNT. Does that guarantee it will happen next year if he is retained? No! But there is no guarantee that someone else will either.

I feel confident he will be a HC somewhere soon. If not UNT, than somewhere else.

  11. We are not going to compete with K-State. Period. I don't care who the coach is, we do not have that kind of talent. Whether or not we can be a future top 25 team is not only going to take great practice week and game day coaching--which we have certainly seen from Coach Canales--it is going to take great recruiting.

Agreed...UNT is not at the level of K-State at this point and time. Top 25? Probably several years from that, but I like your outlook. Another good win for the program today!

  12. You do realize we are 2-7 with him as a coach on this staff, right?

Don't think a "continuity" argument is the best way to go here.

Good point, and just think last year he was part of a staff that went to a bowl game and won. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Canales. He went to a bowl game the last three years at a BCS school and now what does he have to look forward to after this season?

  13. In looking at today's (11/12/10) Wall Street Journal there is an

early look" at projected NCAA Tournament seedings for March 2011.

Our very own NORTH TEXAS is listed as a number 15 seed along with fellow 15 seeds Princeton, Morgan State and wait for it...Sam Houston State. AND, above 16 seeds Maine, Quinnipiac, Bucknell/Jackson State and UNC Asheville/Lipscomb as the two "opening round games".

Hows that for an early shout out to the MEAN GREEN? NCAA bound....not too early to be thinking of those tickets! At least the Wall Street Journal doesn't think it's too early.

    GO MEAN GREEN!

The Wall Street Journal = Las Vegas Odds Makers

  14. Glad they won, thought it was closer than it should have been. UAM's zone defense seemed to work, held us to settling for the 3 more often than I would have liked to see. If Shorter doesn't shoot such a high percentage we could have been looking at a different outcome. The zone d's seem to give us fits last year as well. Hope to see them play a lot sharper Friday, which I'm sure they will, as it's their last game before TT...

By-the-way, anybody see who won the pizza in the first half around the 12min mark? That was me (being completely uncomfortable)!

A win is what we are there to do. I'm happy with that. UNT will build on the success. Congrats on the pizza!
