  1. To throw a coaching name out there, there is a guy who lives in the area that would be a great choice, James Vilade. He started the baseball program at UT Tyler ten years ago, and built them from practicing at a local high school to building a new facility to eventually a potential NCAA tourney team in D-III every year. He resigned last year and now lives in the Dallas area and works as a scout for the Marlins. Were going to need a guy who has experience building a program from the ground up and who has recruiting ties to the area and who doesn't cost too much, just throwing it out there.

  2. I love getting info and good discussion from message boards but HATE that some people use their anonymity to act like fools. Shaft, DallasGreen, Adub, MeanGreenBob wouldn't dare speak about or to someone the way they phrase their comments here. Sad, just sad.

If you're goal was to get me offsides consider it a success. But YOU are 'incredibly weak.' Not Riley.

I agree with you 100 percent

  3. I have makeshift hate of TCU and SMU cuz why not? They're private schools so there is always that, they don't play us so we can pretend they are ducking us (SMOO did split a football series with us, however), they are the schools of record of their respective cities as UNT is of Denton, they are close.

Honorable mention: UT-Arlington because of basketball.

Why its hard to hate on SBC schools: They are in the same miserable boat we are in and it really is just mean to wish ill on any one of them.

I would agree with that, UTA and UNT is the best basketball rival, im hope that we development more of a rivalry with WKU, thats if the Belt stops making us go play there every year.

  4. I have a quick question for you folks...

Who would you guys consider your biggest conference rival? Being the only team from Texas in the conference you don't have an obvious "team to hate". Everybody has to have some team they like to kick in the junk extra hard.

For obvious reasons I think the Iowa Hawkeyes need to go down in flames everytime they play a sporting event.

On that note and for the record.. Hayden Fry is the devil to most Iowa State fans :D He took the Hawks from 20 losing seasons in a row and being the 2nd team in the state behind ISU to national prominence. Don't much care for that guy... lol

He got Iowa winning while Iowa State went from having Johnny Majors and Earl Bruce as coaches to Donnie freakin' Duncan and Jim Walden. We sucked for the next 20 years (until Dan Mac)... and are still trying to catch up. Dan McCarney beat Hayden's Iowa team in Iowa City the last year Fry was coaching there and went on to win 4 more in a row over Iowa... He has a winning record against Kirk Ferentz and Iowa doesn't suck. He'll get your guys to play ball against anybody...

The Kansas Jayhawks are probably next in line for me. In basketball I-State and Kansas have had some real doozies. The only other team to win the Big 12 conference basketball championship outright more than I-State is Kansas.

    Anywhoo... Who do y'all hate?

    GMG!!! and Go 'Clones!!!!

It sucks not having a real rival in conference, eventhough I would say there is some blood with some teams like WKU and Troy, which is more of a basketball thing. But to be a true lover of the Mean Green you have to hate the school 30 miles south of Denton on the Hilltop, SMU!!!! One of my best friends is an SMU guy and Im tired of hearing his crap the last few seasons, ready for Coach Mac to change all that.

    Go Mean Green!!!

  5. Listening to Chico on the radio right now is amazing. I want him here. I want his passion and his desire. I want a coach that wants to be HERE!!!!! Not a coachthat just wants a job amd doesn't care where.

I think Chico is out guy

That was a great quote, I WANT COACH CHICO

  6. I wish Todd Dodge the best, he will land on his feet, say what you want about the job he has done at UNT but his is still one of the best coaches this state has ever seen. I think Canales will do a job the rest of the season, and if so he should be considered for the job, the coaching search will be fun to keep up with. A new stadium, a new coach, a new start

  7. It amazes me that the Fan is all about trying to boost ratings through fan participation though texts, calls, and instant feed back, but then they alienate a large fan base by trashing on a local University, (the largest local University)!! They will never even get close to The Ticket by doing that, just one more of many reasons The Ticket is better, they support local teams and sports. They don't rag on UNT or the Stars, sure they will make jokes at UNT's expense but they do that will every team, and with the way the Mean Green have played over the years who can blame them, but to say that we should drop football, what dumbass said that? Im glad Greggo is back on the air and his show is ok and I will listen but the Morning show and the afternoon show and that night time show with that blow hard Arnie ragging on UNT while we just made the tourny no less, well they need to do alittle more research and know there fan base.

    "Were having fun here, no?"

  8. This is very encouraging, he really likes Riley. I guess I haven't really considered how Riley will fit into the offense. You have to think Jackson will be the number one choice, then Stradford as the deep threat, followed by Carey and Outlaw. But when it really comes down to it, Riley is still the best athlete on the team. He can really add a different aspect to the offense that DC's will have to account for each week. And don't discount the heart this kid has and the fact that he will want to prove to people that he can still be a huge part of this team, just as Phil Steele does I think Riley will have a hugh season.I am catching some slack for my 7 plus wins prediction on gomeangreen, on this blog, and from friends, but I am not backing down from it, and articles like Phil Steele's is just making my reslove that much stronger, like you said Mr. Vito talent is not the problem it's the use of said talent, this season UNT will use it to have a winning season.

  9. Well it goes without saying this is not a good sign. But being the Mean Green optimist I am I will say this. What if UNT wins just two of the games that it let slip away last season, remember there where 6 games lost by seven points or less. There are two of those six that have really got to0 me more than the most, Army and Ohio. We had Ohio on the ropes many many times, and if Micheal Outlaw can catch just one of the two balls he droped in the endzone UNT wins(one in the 4th and one in the first OT) but I don't put the loss just on him, the D can't allow a team to score on 4th and 20, and Nathan Tune can't throw a pick six with a four point lead in the 4th quarter. And remember Ohio won 9 games last season and played for the MAC title. The Army game; Riley throws three picks and has a fumble inside the Army 20, but saying that, the Army game was lost by some awful game mangement in the last few minutes and some not so cluth kicking,(hopefully Zach Olen will make that a non issue next season). My point being if UNT wins just those two games I beleive they are looked at alot different going into the fall. I truly believe this team is much better than 113 in the nation, and I truly believe that it will be proven next season, am I a Mean Green homer? yes, but that doesn't change the fact that UNT has 19 starters coming back and a new top notch OC. 7 wins plus I really believe it!! Who's with me?

  11. What I wrote to the Sports Editor of the DMN Garry Leavell @ gleavell@dallasnews.com

    Garry,

I find the lack of coverage of the UNT participation in the SBC Championship Game Tonight very very discomforting to say the least. To add insult to injury your staff has decided that heavily promoting an article about TCU and SMU's lack of a basketball program that performs was more valuable to your readers than reading about UNT's season long accomplishments and potential tournament appearance decided tonight. With over 100,000 Alumni in the DFW area, the 4th largest school in Texas is just up the street and many consider Denton to be as part of DFW as is Rowlett or Grapevine. How could you justify burying the story of UNT over this coulda, woulda, shoulda story of two schools that combined do not have the active enrollment of UNT? I find it very uncouth to have made this decision which has obviously (see the comments on the story) disturbed many of your readers. JJT is already considered by many to be a controversial figure but his article has placed the nail in the coffin for my opinion of him as a true local news writer. Some facts about UNT's season that should be brought to reader attention are as follows:

1.) Second Tourney visit (potentially) in 4 yrs.

2.) Johnny Jones is in his 7th year as a coach and we have now had over 4 yrs in a row of 20+ win seasons

3.) We beat OSU on our turf last year and had a very formidable game against top 25 ranked TAMU this year (outscoring them second half)

4.) We set a school record in most games won in a season

5.) Most of our talent returns next year for another round of a great season

Please ensure that tomorrow's headlines incorporate a least a little bit of enthusiasm for DFW's largest school and their hard-earned and triumphant season of basketball.

    Thanks so much,

    Jozef Foerch

    I gegree, very well said!!
