  1. I am pretty sure the GB band director comes here and reads your comments. Whether he feels your comments have merit is his decision.

I have cheered on this losing football team for the last five years hoping for a win. When you criticize the supporters of this losing team, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth. This team doesn't deserve much support - so be grateful for the supporters this team has.

  2. I've only gotten to page three so far (but glad this discussion is taking place), but here are some of my thoughts...

UNT has a more than qualified marching band director and I wouldn't ever second guess his decisions on when the band plays. I always want the band to play more, but I would have to think he knows what he is doing. Maybe it has something to do with class. He promotes and demands UNT spirit all the way.

Yes, music majors (at least music education majors) must participate in three years of marching band. Other students can also participate if they desire, and you do get alot of other students who like this activity. Nerds, nerds, nerds. By the way, I am a fan of the nerds.

That brings to another thought - the Green Brigade represents about 1% of the university population. You would think that would represent 1% of the trouble makers on campus (not that we have a lot), but you just don't hear anything negative about this group. Give this group some support - they aren't the jocks or jerks.

Basically, the Green Brigade doesn't get any kudos or perks but criticized by the footbal fans when they give you team spirit, bodies in Fout Field seats, and 20 hours plus a week of work for one hour of college credit. Most (a lot ?) of them enjoy the unappreciated experience.

Anyway, some of you have convinced me - I just got finished scraping off my UNT rear window sticker, and am comtemplating which to replace it with - SMU PONIES or SFA LUMBERJACKS. Please vote to help me find a better school to support.

Sorry to hear that UNT sucks so badly (football, marching band, school in general) - but glad you finally showed me the light. I have always disliked wasting my time on losing endeavors.

  3. I know everyone is depressed over yet another loss, so the best way to redirect frustrations is to give a little hate to the Green Brigade...

My son spent four years in the GB - those members work their tails off, have loyal team spirit (even after loss, after loss), standing there in the heat, cold, rain (7 overtimes) even when there is only about 50 alum fans on the other side - and all they hardly ever get from this forum is critism.

  4. I will be there for the game with a couple people (one UNT alum and a current UNT student). I am looking forward to seeing the GB perform for the real opening night of Jerry World!

Be sure to give the GB some love (especially the trumpet section). Go GREEN BRIGADE! (You have to say it with the emphasis!) If you have the tools, tape it and post on youtube - you will be my favorite person for months.

  5. Very cool! Are they marching during half or pregame or just playing from the stands? Was the number limited because of seating?

My son didn't know when they would be playing, and I am guessing that they were offer "only" 200 seats so that is why the entire band will not be there. Pretty nice of Jerry Jones and a great perk for a GB player, though. I hope to hear or see them on Sunday sometime during the game.

  6. Remember Mack Cole (Topeka, KS) - he was recruited from Fort Scott JuCo. He's had some positive plays this year - I remember at least one blocked kick. I would say he probably had some influence with Antonio Charles making the decision to come play for UNT.

PS - I grew up in Fort Scott, although never attended the junior college.

  7. Question: Was the student section empty to the left of you? As you were panning and view the Navy section it looked dead empty in the student section but the Navy section looked packed. That is what we need to model ourselves after; getting in the stadium 20 minutes early....i know 'calling the kettle black'.

That was probably the Green Brigade section - which were on the field playing the National Anthem.

  8. From ponyfans.com:

"We have got to be the poorest example of fans I have EVER seen."

"I have never seen such a lack of support for a team and the team includes the coaches. It is embarassing that the school spirit coming from the UNT sidelines was 10 times what I heard from SMU -- and that was from the first snap after they had suffered a bigger loss than SMU the prior week. What does that say about SMU fans?"

  9. We had the best time yesterday, even if we did almost melt. Tailgating was fun, food was good, meeting you all was great! Gave Dr. B a hug (I'm sure she enjoyed a very sweaty fan hugging her). The Green Brigade was full of energy and spirit.

Thanks Rick for selling us those great tickets. It was a blast cheering on the team in the mists of all you long-term, hard-core UNT supporters. We didn't beat SMU but I think we had a better time. And Ford Stadium is a nice place for a football game.

  10. I haven't purchased tickets yet for the SMU game. Will I have any problems getting tickets if I just go down on Saturday? Do they only sell tickets to the visitors if they have visitor tickets available? Will I get snobbed to death if I sit in the SMU section in my MEAN GREEN t-shirt? We really want to go see the game, so advise me if you know. Thanks! Oh, and yea, GO MEAN GREEN!!!
