  1. If ya'll do not have much going on you should head out and see the Southlake game this friday night. It is taking place just south of Denton at Northwest Stadium against Northwest High. I know we have seen many southlake supporters at UNT games with no ties to our team. I do not think it would hurt to go check them out? I think they would appreciate it and it could lead to even more support from that town! Plus it is a good chance to see Riley in action!!!!

  2. After reading most of the posts this week after the Razorback game, it is apparent that most have decided that Vizza should be our QB.

I feel the same way but I do not want to get into that argument.

    Let me ask you this....

Do you think Dodge is hesitant to put Vizza is the game becasue he might have great success? Now wait, do not start bashing, hear me out. Say Vizza starts this week and does fantastic. Then the remaining of the season he shows greatness as our future QB. What does this do for Riley??? If Vizza turns out to be pretty damn good then it will put Dodge in a pickle with his son! All of a sudden the people will want to keep Vizza in the as our QB and we will have a kid on the sidelines who de-committed from Texas! If Dodge just lets Meager play the rest of the year he knows he can bring Riley in next year as the front runner for the job (or atleast give him a better shot) because Meager will be on his way out! I would not want to be at that dinner table when Dodge has to tell his son "thanks for coming to UNT but we are going to move you to reciever because Vizza is our starter".

I know this is crazy talk but it has just crossed my mind lately with all this VIZZA talk! What are your thoughts......

  3. You are right about the Defense. They did goive up 30 points. But Meager is our GENERAL. You say he did not lose the game for us? The kid did throw two crucial picks in the endzone and a bonehead pick in the 4th qtr. I would say he did play a major role in the loss. The fact is, with Dodge's offense, he can make a 5th grader look good a QB when you pass it everytime. Plus most of the routes are quick, short passes. The reason the spread works is for the short passes but those are set up by the ability to strike deep. FAU realized in the 2nd half that we cannot throw deep so that is why you saw the breakdown of our offense. Without the threat to go deep, the spread is not worth a lick! It was apparent last night! I would like to see what Vizza can do for a whole game though! Probably not against Arkansas because that would not be a good game to judge. We will probably get steemed rolled so I would wait to use him till teh following week.

  4. I did not get to go to the game but I did listen to most of it. George Dunham made it sould like DM was day dreaming most of the game? His passes seemed flat and his picks came at the worst possible times. He also questioned his arm-strength a few times? I did not get to see it so let me know what ya'll think?

  5. NCAA rules sanction alcohol sales from any on-campus stadium. I am not sure why but I lived in vegas for a while and went to a few games at UNLV where there stadium was off campus. The beer was flowing and it really helped attendance since they were horrible.

  6. Roman definitely has a good attitude and plays all out... I like his demeanor. He does things that annoy me, but I think it is correctable. EVERY CB was giving up yardage last night. Roman ran down a guy from the OTHERSIDE of the field to prevent the long TD. That was pretty impressive.

    good point

  7. I do not want to be critical but in a game where we go to SMU we need to look our best! I do not want to hear that it is too hot and that they need to be comfortable. Does our football team wear shorts because it is to hot? Yes, our band did a great job but there appearance was right up there with the Denton Ryan Band. This is not a shot by any means, they are great! I just think that we need to be at our best and represent our school the best way possible especially at SMU. I heard numerous SMU and OU fans say "they are good but it looks like a bunch of kids off the streets" We hear enough of that crap from them about our school anyway. Am I being to harsh? I jus think that is pure laziness on part of our school and organization leaders to make that happen. In my eyes, there is no excuse not to be in full uniform for any game, SMU or OU.

I would love to hear feedback?

  8. The secondary is a concern but our biggest concern should be a lack of a pass rush. We put pressure on Justin Willis and he becomes the average/below average QB that he is. The few times that we got to him proved it.

I totally agree! Our pass rush must improve or else our DB's are in for a long season. Similar to the Dallas Cowboys problems last year (NO pass rush equals= Roy Williams TOAST).

I also agree that Willis is way over-hyped. He is a great runner but he makes bad decisions and has minimal arm strength. His deep ball makes Meager look like Farve!!!!

  9. You're kidding right? The two "fair catches you're referring to" were textbook situations where you DON'T field the punt. On one of them he was standing on our 10 and the other one he was standing on near the 20 but had two SMU players standing almost nose to nose with him as the ball came down. On BOTH occasions he wisely got away from a ball that in 95% of situations rolls into the endzone for a touchback.

You can look for places to place the blame for last night...and there are plenty...but this aint one of em.

Your wrong, yoy never call for a fair catch on the 20 and do not field it. If the SMU players are in his face that is fine. He can catch the ball and they do not touch him. I did not know you can get tackled during a fair catch? I will give you the first one, he was about on the 14 and the kick was great. The second was was not good! Luckily our offense turned it into a score but 99/100 times that would have killed us. If he is scared to field the ball then he does not need to be back there.

anyway, I do not want to cause a argument, we are all in this for the Mean Green. I just thought it was a fair point!

  10. Everyone is going gaga over Meager and his passing tonight, but what I mainly witnessed were great catches by the WRs. Nearly all of the long passes were under thrown and the WR was forced to sit and wait for the ball to get there. Yes, his numbers were gaudy but they would have been even better if he could just hit the receivers in stride. That is accomplished by throwing the ball to where the receiver will be if he keeps running rather than throwing to where he is when you decide to throw to him.

It's no secret that I'm not a Meager fan, but I vowed to give him a chance this year since TD named him the starter. Yes I know he threw for 601 yards tonight, but I really haven't seen anything from Meager that I haven't seen in the last two years. He still throws behind the receivers, holds on to the ball too long and panics in the pocket.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Vizza but, from what I have seen, he tends to do a better job looking downfield and hitting recievers in stride and he doesn't panic when the pocket starts to collapse.

Also, SMU's defense looked really bad and if they don't get it together they're going to rank higher than us for most points allowed per game.

    Great post!

  11. I do support our team but I am a realist. I do not know about you but I want to win! I am sick of our fans saying "Dodge will save the day" lets give everyone a second, third, fourth chance. "atleast they gave ter all". Do you think they say that at TCU, Texas, Tech, etc? If we want to start winning we need to start thinking like winners. I might be a little harsh but after seeing the past two games I just do not have any confidence in the kid, especially returning punts. He did make a fantastic play on the stop at the 2 yardline but we need to face the facts. I do not blame him for everything. Our whole team made mistakes..

Fitgeralds drop in the open field that would of put us up 21-10

    Meagers bad throws

    Our stupid defensive penalties

These all played huge rolls in the loss.

  12. Even though we lost the game last night we did play our hearts out. A little help from the ref's and a few stupid passes and idiotic penalties kept us from a win. But the biggest victory last night was the fact that UNT fans came out in the thousands!!!!! It is a true embarassment to SMU and ther fans that they had an equal amount if not less fans at there home stadium than we did. I would be ashamed if I were there alumni! UNT was much louder and more into the game than SMU. I give them credit, they did pull the game out in the end ans showed some good signs of a contending team.

I want to say gret job to our fans though, I bet SMU was shocked when they saw all that green in the stands. Keep it up!

By the way, Justin Willis might be the most overrated QB out there. Good runner but horrible passer! My 10 year old nephew puts LESS air under his deep balls. Where the hell was that guy throwing the ball half the time? I especially liked the deep route to the kids on the hill by the scoreboard. He almost hit them in full stride.

  13. The poor kid cannot cover a beached whale. I give him credit for his effort but he plays 15-20 yards off the reciever. This is not JUCO San Mateo buddy, either step up or turn it in! And that is not the worst part of it all. Yes we did go 99 yards on that drive but on 2 seperate occassions he called for fair catches at the 20 and let the ball land right behind him during punt returns. This could of been detrimental if the SMU defense was not so horrible. There has to be someone better we can but pack to return punts. Sooner or later this kid is going to kill us in key conference games!

On a good note, the offense looks great! I think they will be very explosive come conference time! Our defense had signs of improvement (big hits, deflections, int's, run defense, etc) but it is still miles from okay! I see this thing coming around but we HAVE to do something about our DB play or else every team we play will torch us on the pass!!!

    GO MEAN GREEN

  14. Tre' Newton has done pretty well under Dodge. Jamario is the same way. However, whoever hands off the ball needs to get his damn hands out faster. There was one run Sat. night where Meager give JMo the ball, but is still holding on to it like he'll take it back if the defense bites.

you are dead on! Every exchange with Meager and J-MO looked uncomfortable. When Vizza was in there he looked so much more poised than Meager.

  15. I also disagree. Latif Nurudeen did a good job cleaning up what Roman couldn't handle. He's got speed and can take guys down. I think he'll be outstanding once we play teams that aren't amazing like the Oklahoma Sooners.

You both make good points. Weathers was great, but you cannot have someone cleaning up our DB's mistakes all game. Bottom line, it does not matter who we play, whoever lines up against Roman will have a field day! That is what worries me. There has to be a better corner on our roster.

  16. I feel bad for Jamario. I know it was OU and unless your Reggie Bush you should not plan on ruinning the ball but....... it sure looks likes our running game is not on Dodge's priority list for this season! I just do not know how we can utilize JT? I just hopw he stays positive and hopefully breaks some big runs this week!

  17. I have not posted on here in a while but I do take time ot of my day to read the forums and enjoy it.

I was in attendance in Norman with a few of my buddies to witness the game this weekend and I just wanted to share

a few of my thoughts and see what you guys think?

    1) I love the mean green and its players but what the heck is #37 Roman doing on our team. Did I miss

something? First of all he is no biger than 5'8" tall and 165 pounds ( I do not care what the program says).

Here I look down on the field and we have him matched up numerous times man to man with 6'4" 235 pound All-

American Malcolm Kelly!!!! Are you kidding me? You cannot tell me we cannot reruit better DB's than that? Godbless him but

that kid looked horrible defending, running punts back, everything. Please let me know what I am missing here????

    2) I thought our offense looked okay but do not get excited with the passing yards. With that style offense we should throw for

300+ yards every game no matter who is back there. I know it is OU so it is tough to measure. As far as Meager, did he not hold the ball

way to long before he released it? The guy is slow, has a mediocre at best arm, and cannot even make a clean hand off to our RB's. Vizza is going to be the starter eventually. Yes, it was the second string he marched doen the field on but you could just tell from his demeanor on the field. The kid was throwing his body in front of people, his ball is thrown alot tighter and harder. He will hurt us sometimes with his "I take chances" thoughts but that is what we need in this offense. Dodge is making a bid mistake going with Meager next week and I predict he will be pulled by the second quarter.

    3) finally, I know it was OU and it looks like they are going to be unbeatable this year but........do we have any type of defense? Our D-line looked

okay for going up against guys twice there size. Our corners and safeties are down right horrible. OU could of easily hung 125 on us and scored every possesion if needed. It was truly embarrassing! Our linebackers could not tackle the ocean. I understand we will get these things in the first game but I am getting the feeling that Dodge has that "We will outscore you" mentality alla Texas Tech. He could get away with that in Southlake but if we do not get our defense straightened out it is going to be a very long season no matter how good our offense gets.

Thanks for taking the time and would love to here your feedback? Go MEAN GREEN beat SMU!!!!!

    Tommy
