  1. Lets see, Lama has just signed what has to be the greatest tennis class in NT history; and you want to pass on unsubstanciated comments and condemn the new coaching staff based on a possible disguntled player. Maybe it is true, maybe not, maybe the player just does not want to put in the effort that Lama demands. I am sure you know there are plenty of very successful coaches that are far from popular with their players. As far as the former coach, she did not produce a Belt competitive team and had plenty of years to do so. Maybe she did not have the support from the university to succeed. I would not know, however there are many people who have been replaced both in sports and industry because they did not produce, whether it was fair or not. I think I will give Lama at least a year or two with his own recruits before I am too critical.

Well, I know a couple of the players and it def. isn't an "effort" issue. I heard they didn't have a huge demand at the practices last year?? I still will be shocked if he produces a winning SunBelt team. But, that is just my opinion and what I have heard from others around the area... As for the 2 new recruits that they are talking about, why exactly is Wilhelm leaving a better team in Arkansas if she is apparently so good?? And why is Cruz leaving her school? Maybe her coach wasn't "popular" with her?? Hope the girls do good this year... We will soon see!

  2. Don't know why this is just now coming out? Heard this about 3 months ago! As for the 2 that left, one just didn't want to play anymore and the other is through because of her injury, or that's what I have been told by others. I overheard some man talking and he said by the looks of everything, he didn't think they would miss being around Lama much!! What does that tell everyone? And everyone thought DP was the only one to lose players because of not being liked??

  3. I have been told that Allie Chermel and Shannon MacKenzie are walking on. I don't think they received scholarships. As far as I know everyone is returning and there are 4 spots open. Narine from Texas and two foreign girls have signed, leaving one spot open.

  4. My friend actually knows the girls on the team pretty well and Giles didn't leave TJC because she didn't like it there. UNT was just a good offer. Also I was reading that she came to the Mean Green Invite last year, playing for TJC, and she beat K. Harris in straight sets. If she was healthy, she would be playing top 3 for sure. She hasn't really been injury-free since she has been here. I heard she played the entire semester last year with a stress fracture. She found out after their last match that it in fact was one. I think you all need to get off their backs and give them time. Yall are so quick to jump on a bad day or tournament. They are not going to make a huge turn around in 2 months. It's going to take time. So just chill out.

  5. I think yall need to give it time. It is still early in the season. They have the entire fall season to work on things for the spring. I heard they possibly may have someone coming in in January, but not for sure yet. As for # 2 leaving b/c of DP... she isn't here anymore because she failed classes, not b/c she hated DP. Lama is a decent coach, so why did he leave UI?? As for Giles leaving TJC... she obviously got a better offer and couldn't pass it up. That's part of coaching junior college, your players may get good offers and leave at semester. I believe once all six players are able to play, they will be better than last years team.

  6. I know about the JUCO through a coach friend, as for the frosh if she is homesick then that is sad but happens all of the time. I think Greenster knows more than most. I hear from present tennis coaches and other ex-coaches around the area.

One candidate that I hope UNT interviews would be great. I assume a decision should be coming soon, hopefully with the season around the corner. To bad no coach right now with The Summer Grand Slam happening down in College Station.

Well, I am pretty sure even if there was a coach right now, the people playing Sectionals in CS right now would have already signed somewhere else since the signing date is in April. Who is the great candidate you are talking about?

  7. Guess that explains why the Top Freshman wanted out, one of the JUCO transfers wanted to leave at semester. Yeah it is all the fans faults, like everything else at UNT.

Doesn't really matter you guys were all friends so the green-tinted glasses are in high use.

As for your comment on Denver, your right they are totally different situations, UNT stayed static and Denver skyrocketed, why wouldn't we want to use them as a model, unless ths status quo is all we seek.

Well, I know a person who knew the freshman really well and her main reason for leaving, or so they told me, was that she was very homesick! Not that she hated the coach that much! She just missed Arizona. How do you know all this anyway? You act like you were a part of the team or something!

  8. fair-weather fan, your opinion, or not I do not count the success by wins and losses. You can schedule Tx State, Lamar, Idaho level schools plus a few JUCO's and there are you wins.

Look at how UNT compares to other schools and the progression.

UNT should be ahead of Arkansas State and UALR but they have lost to them regularly.

I hope they would have been able to hang in and follow Denver's lead but they blew past us. At least the team did not lose to UNO again. Still could not get by NMSU. They lost to SHSU who was behind UNT years ago.

Finally hope they would have at some point been competitive with a Top 75 program but 6-1, 7-0 losses are not competitive.

Again much like Football and Basketball if your left wanting more your just a fair-weather fan. Guess I'll just deal with the shame of being labeled a fair-weather fan  sad.gif

GET OVER DENVER!!! Stop comparing UNT to Denver... It's different. Team, Coach, Town, Atmosphere!!!

  9. I dont need to ask previous assistant coaches, or players. I have worked with her more then you ever have and I have never had any problems with her.

I agree... I know many people who either worked with her or played for her who had no problem with her. And yes I attended some of the matches and watched her. She did fine! I hope she is very successful at Baylor!

  10. Oh well, best of luck to her as an Assistant @ Baylor. Obviously you never had to work with her, just ask her four previous Assistant Coaches and players. ph34r.gif

kinda surprising hire considering who they had in prior (a former Top 25 NCAA player from UT).

Oh well lets see if UNT can make a good hire.

I am and many others will not be biting our tongues, this next hire will be all RV.

its awfully easy to criticize from here... good luck to her and on to bigger and better things at UNT!

  11. For all you DP fans out there saying how much she brought down the program, and did such a horrible job at NT in the "arm pit" of a conference, it is to my understanding that yall must be the only ones to think she did such a horrible job. She must be good to have been picked up by a Big 12 Tennis program rank within the top 5 of the nation. So she can’t be doing as bad of a job as yall made it out to be.

I for one am proud that Dawna is onto bigger and better things, and I bet soon yall will be biting your tongues wishing she were back at North Texas.

Go LadyGreen! I couldn't agree with you more... at least there is someone out there who supports her besides me!

  12. Latest news I have heard is they have extended interviews to whom I do not know, should be interresting on who they hire. The coach should have 1-2 scholarships available to recruit with, although it is getting late on the recruiting scene.

I heard the coach would have 3-4 scholarships to fill. Did they fill some already? Also, do you know when they are supposed to make a decision?

  13. hmm interesting, hopefully RV and company will be willing to shell out and also allow the coach to actively recruit all areas and not just stateside.

I hope they can find some US recruits. I know that the really good teams have all foreign players, but give the americans a chance too. There are many americans out there that are just as good. Not to say I'm against the foreigners or anything, but come on where are we living? DP did a good job of looking at americans first then foreigners.

  14. DP was lazy - didn't scout the opposition - could have won more matches with better preparation.  Had enough talent to win but demoralized the team with her repulsive behavior.  Had zero interpersonal skills and little common courtesy.  Her assistant would have had a better record this year as head coach.  Our AD would be wise to consider a male coach if a good one like Colorado is available.

I totally disagree with your comment. I believe DP did all she could with what she had. It just wasn't a good year. She def. wasn't lazy. She had a lot injured, and not because of all the running they did because they didn't run that much this spring season, so I have heard. She just had a rough year.
