  1. I like it. It's pretty similar to last year, but the gameplay seems smoother to me. The custom conference thing is cool if you're into customizing your dynasty like that. Also choosing Off/Def Coordinator or head coach in dynasty adds something new. If you want it just to play with UNT, I'd wait til next year with the new stadium/uniforms.

  2. No one cares what non UNT fans think about OUR uniforms. True story.

Then ask UNT fans. Poll our student body.

My comment was about which uniforms look better. The new Nike's or the UA. Sometimes fans like things for no other reason than because it belongs to their team. I said to ask non-UNT fans because then you could get an unbiased opinion.

I don't hate our new uniforms (even though I think they could have been much better). All I'm saying is that the Dodge era jerseys look better than the new ones, and I think most people would agree.

  3. I agree with this which leads me to more confusion about yesterday. Why not have a photo shoot with players wearing the gameday look? We also have no idea what the roadies will look like.

Everything else since McCarney's hire has been so top notch, but this "unveiling" felt thrown together.

In the end, after watching McCarney's press conference, I can deal with a lame uniform unveiling.

    Agree

  4. I was excited about today. I was planning on coming home from work and posting the pics of the new uniform on Facebook for all my friends to see. I had even thought of a status to go with the link to the pictures: "Hopefully the Mean Green will play well this season. But even if they don't, they'll at least look good."

However, after seeing the new uniforms I've decided not to show them on Facebook because I'm somewhat embarrassed. It's not something I want to show off. My friends would just comment about how boring and plain they are.

I like the "practice" helmet with the black stripes better.

    Generic, plain, boring.

Even with all the bashing, I am interested in seeing the whole uniform on they guys.

    Go Mean Green

  5. I was expecting something plain, but it doesn't get more plain than that. Hoping it will look better with the full uniform on the guys.

Assuming we will wear solid white pants, with possibly solid green as an alternate. But, the more I look at it, the more disappointed I am that we didn't get something better.

  6. Just a positive little side note about people knowing about Coach McCarney and our program...

I work in athletics for a high school in East Texas. We were out at practice today and one of our athletes asked me who my college football team is. I told him that I went to North Texas and that I know they haven't won much recently, but that I was still a fan.

One of our new coaches heard me say that and quickly turned and said "Yea, but they're about to start winning." He said that he thinks highly of coach McCarney and was very impressed with what he did at Iowa State. Also mentioned how great of a recruiter he is.

Not many people out in East Texas know much about the Mean Green, especially in our tiny town. So it was nice to hear someone mention our coach and program, and also believe that we are headed towards success.

  7. Waiting for Rangers Live to finish so the game will come on, but here is a little clip from ESPN.com.

"Dallas Woodrow Wilson LB Chad Polk swarmed with the North defense, keeping the South All-Stars off the board in the first quarter. He contributed with two tackles for loss in the opening frame and finished the game with four tackles. Polk almost pulled in an interception"

  8. BEST Case 7-5

    L - FIU

    L - Houston

    L - Alabama

    W - Indiana

    L - Tulsa

    W - Florida Atlantic

    W - Louisiana-Lafayette

    W - ULM

    W - Arkansas State

    L - Troy

    W - Western Kentucky

    W - Middle Tennessee

My prediction 5-7. Start the season with some heartbreaking losses to begin 0-5. Will lose to Troy and one other Sun Belt team.

  9. Agreed with all about, we are set with our QB situation right now.

That would put too many cooks in the kitchen.

We need play makers at WR and more meat on our OL/DL

I agree with UNT90. There is no way we are "set" at quarterback. Godfrey started the final 4 games for NM last year and won one of them. I believe it was their only win of the year. That resume is already better than what anyone on our roster has.

Here is a good QB that doesn't care if he goes to a big time school. He may not be a good fit for us, but if our coaches didn't at least consider looking into him, I'm not sure I have much faith in their decisions.

Here is his high school bio from NM's website:

Speedy, dual threat quarterback who finished his career as one of the most prolific signal callers in Texas high school history...named the 2009 Mr. Texas Football by Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine as the QB of the All-Texas High School Team...class 3A Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press after leading Gilmer to a 15-0 record, capped by the 3A Division I title last fall...the Buckeyes were one of 50 teams across the country to be honored on the MaxPreps Tour of Champions, but first 3A squad ever recognized...also named MVP by Rivals.com (The Old Coach Team) and HuddleUpTexas.com...three-star recruit by ESPN.com (No. 45 ATH)...chose UNM over scholarship offers from Kansas State and Tulsa...3,581 yards passing with 42 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions as a senior...also had 848 yards and 22 TDs on the ground...posted a 41-3 record as a three-year starter, piling up 11,694 yards of total offense (9,344 passing, 2,350 rushing) and was responsible for 165 TDs (116 passing, 49 rushing)...finished his career tied with Colt McCoy for 4th on the Texas all-time TD pass list and 10th in career passing yardage...2,883 yards passing with 34 TDs and 9 INTs, along with 885 and 19 TDs on the ground as a junior (12-2 record)...led Gilmer to a 14-1 record and state runner-up finish as a sophomore when he passed for 2,727 yards and 38 TDs (4 INTs), and had 617 yards and 8 TDs rushing...plays basketball as well.

Stump Godfrey. Saw him play in high school. Lead Gilmer to a state championship. Very gifted athlete. Was named "Mr. Texas Football" by Dave Campbell Magazine after the 09 season, along with other player of the year awards. Was recruited by some big time schools, but chose New Mexico because of the possibility of early playing time. Became the starter for NM as a true freshman.

Here are his senior highlights. Lots of videos on YouTube.

I love EA Sports NCAA Football franchise. Play it every year. I found this video of them talking about the new upgrades to their Road to Glory mode. For the demo, they have chosen for their high school athlete to play for the Mean Green. They show several clips of game and practice modes using UNT.

Sadly, this season will be played at Fouts in the game with the UA uniforms. I wasn't expecting the new stadium or uniforms (especially since they haven't been revealed yet) to make their video game debut, but I was hoping.

For those that play the game, you might enjoy the video. UNT has an overall of 69

  12. I was on the sideline for 3 seasons worth of UNT games (06-08) and being down on the field I definitely noticed the size difference, even compared to our fellow SBC teams. There were two positions that really stood out to me. First was the defensive line. But second and the one that got my attention the most was receiver.

Our receivers looked like high school athletes compared to other schools, and not just when it came to their heigth. Our receivers, with the exception of a few, were all skinny without any definition.

Occasionally we'd get a Sam Roberson (6'4") or a Forrest Rucker (6'6"), but they didn't have that thickness and definition that I noticed other schools had. Maybe they didn't stick around long enough for the effects of the weight room to pay off??

But even our studs like Casey Fitzgerald and Johnny Quinn didn't have size. Both did happen to be two of the hardest workers I've ever seen though.
