Safety, 16-13 UTSA.

If it weren't for the first play in the game, Arizona would probably be a little scared right now.

The American Athletic Conference is a joke.

When I read this Sunday, I laughed at the thought of Rick Villareal at UTSA.
Why?

This is hardly a trophy for the defense. Ash has been one of the least durable quarterback in the country the last couple of seasons. I think Sam Houston State could have roughed him up enough to end his career.

Should be fun to watch UTSA play Arizona on FSN1 in San Antonio next Thursday.
-
That's some serious coin.
-
C-USA looking pretty legit right now.
-
Fans are going to start booing soon.

21-0. It doesn't look like a fluke either. UTSA defense is rock solid right now.
-
Yeah, it has been really sloppy football. It's super humid which is probably making throwing the ball and fielding it a bid harder, but still... Houston has 4 TOs, UTSA should be leading by more.
-
Probably more indicative of a Tulane Grad being involved higher up in the spot's production.
I have to believe that since I don't think they ever even sniffed a BCS national title.
-
We just don't know how seriously Strong is taking this game though. Is he out to really make a statement in his first game or is he really just overlooking UNT?

In state rivals at this point should be UTSA and SMU (considering our schedule). I would not mind adding Texas State or Rice. I am all for regional games. I rather play Texas schools then have the team travel half way across the country to play some other team...
Of course. Besides, interstate games always mean more to people unless you're playing a powerhouse program.

For me, Rice is already a rivalry game. My brother has season tickets for Rice and I have mine. This season, my family will be down there rooting for the Mean Green, right in the middle of the Rice season ticket holders. Our teams should have a strong rivalry. The two largest cities in Texas should be rivals.
The 10 game series with SMU should create a true rivalry. School and conference smack is on the line. It will be interesting to see if DFW recruiting for the AAC and C-USA is influenced by the winner of that annual game.
Since UTSA came to Apogee and kick our cans last season, I guess they will be a rival too. I'm still angry about that loss.
I love the line-up in C-USA West. Any of our match-ups have the potential to become a rivalry.
UTSA seems like the most likely candidate for a rival. The similarities between UNT and Rice and pretty slim. UNT is a large public school with above average academics whereas Rice is a small private school with elite academics (top 25 in the nation -- UNT is just nowhere close to that). Both UNT and Rice are in large metro areas, but really neither school has a dominant presence in its metro area, so whatever benefits come from the size of each's metro area are pretty well blunted as far as their contribution to a potential rivalry is concerned.

That was then and this is now. We can win this game.
It can be competitive, but UT still has a ton of talent and they are going to hyped. I see UT getting the win wrapped up by the end of the 3rd.

Yes -- this isn't going to be your typical UT opener -- this will be Strong's first game and there will be a lot of UT fans interested in seeing how his team plays. Not saying it will be a sell out but it could be close.
Yeah, it will be pretty close to a sell out. No doubt.

Diggs is good against guys of similar size, but the rest of the secondary is definitely not up to par with what Texas has put out on the field in its glory days under Mack Brown (i.e., 2001-2009)

They have good athletes not elite. Their roster is not loaded like a Texas team should be. They have a lot of unproven players. QB is a position that is up in the air for them.
Will they be favored by 2 tds? Yes. But the gap isn't as wide as someone of you think in terms if talent. Not hard to see that.
They will be favored by a lot more than 2 touchdowns at home.

Impressive way to end the streak.

It's on the Comcast Sports Network here in Houston.

yea but 8 K less than SA's team and about 10.5K less than San Marcos's team
San Marcos' team was playing Tech, which probably brought in as many teams as Texas State. UTSA, on the other hand, is the only game (college or pro football) in town, so they are probably going to have solid attendance numbers no matter who they play.
That C-USA logo on the field might bring in some more fans by itself next season for the Mean Green.

It was on the BOR agenda, tho. "permission to accept and negotiate the CUSA invite" or whatever?
UTSA hasn't even made an official comment on the move. That thing was buried on page 127 of a long list of agenda items that a blogger picked up.

This thread was not what I thought it was about.

UNT can't afford him like the other posters have said so it's a non-issue. Isn't going to happen.
