  1. He gave us his all for 3 years, he doesn't owe anyone anything other than to do what's right for him.  I can't think of any player in a UNT uniform that put as much effort on the floor as this man did.

This should be a thread celebrating his achievements and nothing else.

Its the head coach's job to backfill with talented players that aren't seeing playing time at p6 programs or with high producing players at lower tier programs.  That's how this works, get used to and quit crying about it.   If the coach cant do it that's on him and him alone.  Adapt or die

  2. What brought them here was 2 good teams competing against each other with an added bonus of the opponent being local.

Nobody did anything extra to get people out other than both of them being good. As long as that is the focus, attendance will naturally improve.

  3. Stone Earle is probably good enough to get us 7-8 wins if we had an average defense.   The problem is that we relied so heavily on the QB to get us just 5 wins and that's with one of the best QB seasons of all time.

How many wins can Earle guide us to if our defense is as bad as it was last year.  My guess would be 1 or 2.

Its kind of unfair to put this all on the QB, what are the odds that we find a player who can repeat last year's performance in year 1?

tldr; the defense's historically bad year puts unfair pressure on getting a QB to perform at all conference levels on day 1

Thought I would share the numbers

     Defense allowed avg per game

    2022 (Bennett 4-2-5)

    Rushing - 197 yards

    Passing- 262 yards

    total - 460 yards

    Points- 31.71 per game

    2023 (Caponi)

    Rushing - 255 yards

    Passing- 221 yards

    total - 476 yards

    Points- 37.08 per game

Additional differences: Tougher strength of schedule with the move to the American Conference, a Power 5 opening opponent, and the first triple option this team has faced.

What are your thoughts before I share mine?

To me this just means they're both terrible.  I'm also not a person who blames it on the scheme (3-3-5).  I think the scheme can work fine if the coaches know how to implement it, which obviously this staff doesn't

    Dead last in yards allowed.

2nd to last in points allowed.

Another year? Caponi should be fired as he leaves the locker room. If we don’t, we’re not serious about football.

yep, could easily make the argument if he was only 100th place that he needs more time to develop his guys.

not when you're dead last, that indicates gross incompetence. i dont even need to see the stats to know they come out flat every single game.  the lack of preparation is out of this world terrible.  there is nothing to build on here, time to move on

  6. We can't even celebrate the heritage of players with a tiny barey visible sticker on the back of a helmet without people getting offended?  Not even sure why this nonsense crept it's way into a discussion about the design of the helmet, this is an extremely common gesture in many sports, let it go.

I am a fan of Morris. I like that he is transparent and admits that his initial plan didn’t work like he thought. I have faith he is going to correct these issues and we will see marked improvement next year, especially on defense.

I concur.  It should not be that hard to find a competent defense after building an elite offense.  I think he is on to something special

We scored 7 in the first half this game and 0 in the first half against Tulane. Zero in the first half against Cal. 10 in the first three quarters versus Navy.
This is not a very good offense. It is an explosive offense that is wildly inconsistent.

We have statistically the best offense in the American.   485 yd/game.  And it not just passing 180 comes from the ground.   This offense has been the most consistent in the league.  Because they score in bunches and not on every drive, "they aren't very good".  If my expectations were this high, I'd give up watching college football, you're just going to be disappointed every game

  9. I'd love to see actual data on this but swear our D gives up a 40+ yard run on the opening drive every single game.  I think even ACU had one.

Why does this happen every single game? They seem to improve (slightly) as games go on but that's only because they start off so horrendous that even a bad performance looks like an improvement I'm comparison

And at this rate we never will,  the playing field has become so tilted.  What made college football great in the past there was a semi level playing field.  I mean the players that we might get can get a free car going there or play for free for us.

If all the big boys do this and I am sure they are 85 scholarship players each will not be alot left over plus they will taking the good players from the smaller conference schools.   The talent gap will grow bigger.  I dont know why the SEC,Big 10, and Big 12 just become the minor leagues for the NFL.   The players wont have to go to class and can just be paid to play for four year. Most take their classes on line now and never step foot on campus.  I sure someone in the Athletic Department is taking the on line classes for them.   It is not about the student athlete it about big tv contracts and winning.

Maybe the big schools should pay the the lower conference teams money for each player they take through the portal.

College football has always been top heavy.  Look at our all time record vs power schools if you need a reminder...hell, look at our all time record against SMU for God's sake.  I really don't think this changes anything for us

    Your point?

Texas has what 11 D! programs, plus supplies hundreds of players to out of state teams.

Yes, there are way too many D1 teams in Texas.  However, if you are commenting on the lack of quality of Texas players, than you are way off base.

Per capita, I bet Texas isn't in the top 10 of most FBS teams.  Alabama has 4, Wyoming at 1, and Oregon at 2 all have more FBS schools per capita than TX, and that's just off the top of my head without even trying hard.

If we're talking about P5 schools per capita, TX is probably in the bottom 5
