  1. I am totally wrong, ignorant, misinformed, have completely ridiculous pre-concieved notions of the SBC, be an AQ elitist homer, etc., but it doesn't matter cuz I'm am not intellectually taking into consideration how bad the WAC will suck with their new team alignment and forever be the bottom dwellers of FBS football!

    Updated quote nough said!

  2. At first glance I thought we were getting the great ex-UCONN/Bobcats Center.

About 2 weeks ago this kid shows up to my neighbor's house for a birthday party while I was sitting on the driveway listening to us play K-state. He heard the game and asked me if that was the North Texas game. When I replied yes he told me his name and proudly proclaimed his commitment as a recruit. He talked about the excitement of the new stadium and how he liked Coach Cannales.

The kid is a beast, someone that's looks to be feared on an offensive line. One of those guys that made me think the future is bright if we can recruit talent like him.

  3. But look what happened last week. TCU won but dropped a spot in the polls.

TCU has proven they don't care about travel. They want a National Championship.

Right now, going undefeated in the Big East gets them there. Going undefeated in the MWC does not.

Don't think so. TCU dropped a spot because they played weak against an unranked SMOO, not because of the conference they are in. Both Boise and TCU are closer to a national championship than the Big East Champ without being in an autobid conference. The only advantage the BE champ has is an automatic bid to a BCS game. The Big East champ hasn't played for the national championship in recent memory.

  4. BULL

I went through a Houston media guide a couple years ago. The only difference in Houston attendance now and in the SWC is they don't get the attendance spikes that Texas, Texas A&M, and Arkansas provided. Their fan base is their fan base and it hasn't changed. The only people they lost were the ones who were there wearing burnt orange, maroon, or Hog red. Those weren't people donating or buying season tickets.

    HMMMM......

2003 Baylor at UNT attendance ~30,000

2007 SMU @ UNT attendance >25,000 (Approximately same result with UNT @ SMU)

I'm sure others could list more games to add to this........

Conclusion: When UNT schedules even the lower echelon of other conferences that are more regional, attendance spikes significantly because of who we play. Its not just some of the time or here and there. It has happened every time in the last 10 years. Having more regional / attractive opponents absolutely gets the students more excited about coming to games and causes some alumni who wont' show up to watch xyz Sunbelt team to come.

  5. "Overall" it is a lower tier 1-A schedule ONLY because of the SBC portion. OU, Ark, SMUt, and Navy games are fine. It's the SBC games, and quasi 1-AA WKU game that we need to upgrade. Never be satisfied with being in the SBC. We must continue the push for CUSA membership. To say otherwise is like being happy in the Southland forever.

CUSA? Regional Rivalries, yes, but quality of conference NO. SBC had a winning record against CUSA last year and Troy smacked Rice around in the NO Bowl game.

  6. I'm not too familiar with TD's system, so I expected a lot of quick hit short stuff...slants, quick-outs and the like. Most of the completed passes were deep routes where the receiver got behind the defense. I'm a bit concerned, from the defensive side, how often this happened.

Receivers getting behind the defense using unconventional route directions is signature TD. The short stuff / slants set the deep stuff up. Defenses think think they have figured out how to stop either the deep or the short and then here comes the other or a running play. TD's game is completely unpredictable. He didn't just do it to our own defense on Sunday, he's been doing it to every defense he has played over the last 9 years.

  7. The guy is a great coach, but obviously trash. How long will he be at Kentucky before some ACC, Big East, or NBA team comes calling? I would've gone with Mark Few.

The guy is a great coach, and Kentucky is possibly the ultimate college BB coaching job. There's nothing wrong with him furthing his career anymore than you or I furthering our career.

I say good for him and God Bless him.

  8. ---Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. None of those involved were Iraq citizens or had ever lived in Iraq and no terrrorist acts against the US has involved the govenment or people of Iraq. 16 of the 19 were from Saudi Arabia.... perhaps we should invade them (not serious about that)... but we could justify it at least. Saddam was terrible person but he hated Islamic fanatics and terrorist as well (he just shot them), that is why he killed so many, he considered them political enemies but he was so mean he would just kill the entire family or village because he thought they might try to overthrow him as they had done in Iran. He was not a nice guy but had no connection to 9-11 as your picture implies.

I beg to differ on whether Al Queda personell lived in and had ties with Iraqi officials:

Why does the Czech Republic have documented evidence that Mohamadd Atta (911 planner) met with the an Iraqi Consul in April of 2003?

    Atta

What was Atta doing in Baghdad in the summer of 2003?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../14/wterr14.xml

Oh, and let's not forget the account of the Iraqi generals who said the shell of an airline jet was used for the practice of hijacking airplanes.

I think the purpose of the picture posted by FFR is that the way we look at the world changed after 911, and we could no longer afford to take the risks that we had taken before that day. We could no longer idly sit by attempting to appease maniac dictatators who verbally threatened to wipe us and Israel off the map. Some of us still take what happened to us on 911 serious, and realize that had we done nothing, it may have happened again.

  9. Good for them. They were speaking their minds when it was an unpopular thing to do, and temporarily paid the price for it.

I have never heard any former fan of the Dixie Chicks (myself included) ever question whether they had the right to say what they did. What we did question was the gutlessness of saying it in London. (Yeah, that's the issue, they didn't have the gaul to say what they said in Texas, or any other place in the South because they knew the crowd would would have thrown eggs at them for such a stupid and unwarranted comment.

As for the freedom of speech issue, no one stopped the Chicks from speaking their mind that day or any other afterward. Freedom of Speech does not equate to Freedom of the consumer to buy what the hell they want. But the Chicks learned a hard cruel economic lesson. "Piss Off your customers, and you'll Piss Away your Paycheck". Every country music lover has the "Freedom of Choice" to buy their records, and they spoke loudly by dropping the Chick's record sales by more than 50%. And last I heard, less than 10,000 people showed up at the 66,000 seat capactity Texas Stadium to hear one of their concerts, so I'd say they're still paying the price for their actions.

The recent Grammy awards only proves that the Grammy selection committe is tone deaf to record sales, and concert attendance and fan popularity. Grammy Awards or not, the Chicks have politicized themselves right into music industry irrlevance.

Lastly, what a waste of amazing talent.

  10. First off, I am now 2 for 2 on Basketball trivia during 2nd half timeouts! Yes that was me down there answering the toughest trivia questions they can throw out at me!

I was impressed with the way the team played defense. Defense on the perimeter really limited the outside shooting of the MUTS, and forced several turnovers. On offense we moved the ball around well, but sometimes we were reluctant to actually take a shot or get the ball down low. Keith Wooden was open in the paint all night, and we didn't get the ball to him enough. The MUTS made it close a few times, but never led in the game. Really fun game to watch!!!

(P.S., they give you the answer before they ask you the trivia question)

  11. Colts by 4.

Its been a long time since I have seen a defense that is as fast, strong and mean as the Bears. (and they don't even have Tommy Harris) But I think the 34 points scored by the Pats is very deceiving. First they had a int returned for a TD, and the Colts special teams sucked and gave the Pats short fields all game long. I don't see a repeat of those things, and without them, the Colts defense is good enough to expose Grossman for the "Ridealong QB" he is.

  12. ----- I liked the fact that during the funeral (and related) broadcasts they pictured Ford as being often non-partisian while in office. I have been around a while (born in 43) and politics once was not near as hateful as it is today... It got a lot worse when Gingrich and the Christian extremists came onto the scene about 15 years ago. The non-stop radio talk shows have contributed as well to the polarization..

Musings from someone born in the 70's to balance out the one sided comments from our esteemed alumni above.

I like how talk radio provides an alternative medium for the public to listen and respond to what is happening in our society. For many years we were held hostage by the main stream media networks, having to suffer through the joke of the biased product they produced. (See Dan Rather's fake Bush Air national guard story which he refused to apologize for 3 days). Now we can get the facts and a little bias if we so choose. BTW, I'm not the only one who likes talk raidio, it happens to be one of the faster growing mediums and millions of people choose to tune in. If they didn't like it or think that it had value, then talk radio stations would go bankrupt.

Oh, wait that's what the liberal talk radio station network "Air America" is doing, going bankrupt because not enough people believe or care to listen to their ridiculous rantings or hate musings.

I don't think we can lay the politics of hate totally at the feet of people like Gingrich and Christians (BTW, Christians didn't hate Clinton; he was just so stupid he was an easy target to attack). Perhaps we can give Clinton a little blame for that as well since everytime he got caught in a particular "Gate" (i.e. rapegate, real estate gate, lying to a grand jurgate, pardon gate, etc) he turned his hate and demonization machine (James Carville) on to discredit his detractors no matter the evidence.

  13. If you go to sunbeltsports.org you can see how we compare to ]other belt teams. Right now we are the highest scoring team. Kd's legs are fresh and Watson should be healthy. Even though everybody says that UALR is a good rebounding team, WE ARE BETTER. We should win all of our games leading up to the home stand vs. UWK and UNO.

    Whoa!

    Free Throws Made: 234

    Free Throw Attempts: 361

    FT % 64.8%

We attempted more FT's than anyone else! Lot of room for improvement in this area.

  14. Just to let you guys know, you should definitely try to get there at least an hour before because traffic on 183/loop 12 is really bad news. It took me an hour and a half from Keller and most of that was sitting in 183 traffic. You can also park off the service road in the Days Inn parking lot and other business lots for $10, I believe.

  15. Well Dickey sent his message to boosters, admin, RV and the fans....

Black Jerseys is the future of NT football, resembling death to the program after his untimely dissmissal...He and others think that RV will get a random person in here to run the program and bury it even furthur in the ground.

Untimely dismissal is correct! Based on the black uniformgate, he should have been fired sooner!

Dickey went out and proved that firing him was the right decision. What's worse is that he went out and lost to a team he should beaten in the black uniforms. If they had won, maybe they would have had something to beat their chest about. Dickey, Come on! You are winless against the not so mighty FAU owls who just started playing Div 1A football less than 5 years ago! How much worse can you get?

  16. Actually I think Dodge is a good HS coach, and that is about  it...Thats all he is successful in....

What has Dodge recruited since he's been at SLC....having snobby kids in your own school district is not called recruiting.....

I want a Mike Price type hire....Maybe Price is tired of UTEP already....

Actually, Dodge is recruiting at SLC. Their #1 receiver this year was the all district receiver for either Newman Smith or RL Turner High School last year. Suddenly he discovered he had an aunt that lived in Southlake and transferred in. Just one example. Amazing what success and winning will do.
