North Texas College softball bus crash leaves four dead

Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the driver of the 18-wheel tractor-trailer as Russell Staley, 53, of Saginaw, Texas. He was treated in hospital and released. It was not immediately clear why the northbound truck lurched across the median and into the southbound lanes, or whether the driver has been charged with any offense. Police said they would investigate the accident as if it were a homicide.

The tragedy shocked the close-knit Texas community college, where counselors were brought in to console grieving students and athletic teams on trips for away competitions were called home.

"This is the most traumatic event that NCTC has had in its 90 years of history," North Central Texas College President Brent Wallace said at a press conference Saturday in Gainesville, Texas, about 60 miles south of where the crash happened.

The four players killed were identified as Meagan Richardson, 19, Brooke Deckard, 20, Katelynn Woodlee, 18, and Jaiden Pelton 20, according to the highway patrol.

My wife works at NCTC. Lots of folks badly shaken by this. The quote that the school is "close-knif" is very very accurate. It's cliche, but they are very much a family. My wife left a few minutes ago for a prayer vigil at the Gainesville campus with some co-workers. Please keep those girls and families in your thoughts.

yes very sad news, the NCTC Tennis Team was playing in a tournament locally and left first thing Saturday morning to be with the family and friends, plus one of the UCA members had played at NCTC. Very somber day having to finish the tournament.

Prayers for the familes, friends, and the NCTC community as a whole.

      Tim Pernetti's (new AAC Commissioner) remarks regarding exploring more corporate involvement seems interesting and innovative, sort of. Getting some heavy-hitter businesses on board with their big advertising/public-relations budgets. They get to splash their logos all over the AAC venues, ceremonies, uniforms, etc in exchange for some NIL type moola. I don't know, it all just feels weird and uncomfortable to this old fat guy.

      The Athletic on DFW Football recruiting

      We have complained for years about being left in the dark. The Mean Green Club was promised quarterly meetings that never took place, now there is little to no coverage of the spring practices, player movement is constant so the days of watching a last second scholarship player developing in to a Hall of Fame performer are long gone ala Johnny Quinn, there is little to no fan engagement, etc... It just keeps getting worse and without a push to really involve the fans, I foresee a bleak future. They, the AD, has to create excitement around the team/program or Apogee will just become a waste of money, the new basketball arena will never happen and future adds like baseball will just be an idea that came too late. The days of the G5's are on their way out. It will be whittled down to the top 40 or 50 programs as D1. We might as well go back to our D1AA days and play at the FCS level. I am just about done with sports from a financial commitment position. The greed has ruined it for me. Their is zero loyalty towards the program by the players. It is all about them and how much money they can cram in their pockets and it appears our basketball coach encourages the lack of loyalty. I will watch on television, but that's about it, much like pro sports have become. I have no interest in attending a Cowboys' game live once the prices became ridiculous, same with the Mav's and Rangers' in that stupid new ballpark that was a waste of money. I had arrived at a point where I was only willing to invest in watching North Texas live, but the current situation has ruined that as well. The future of all of college sports is a disaster if some type of control isn't put in place. It is ridiculous and very sad. Guess I will end up spending my money on golf, fine food and drink, drugs, etc. and become a more interesting person.

      Opportunity to beat up on one of the worst teams in the country in Memphis (5-34, 1-17). Really can't let them steal one like UTSA did a few weeks ago. This could help solidify a top two seed (top two seeds would only need to win two games in the conference tournament to win the title) if Tulsa takes 2 of 3 from Charlotte this weekend.
