Greer tightens grip on position

Recommended Posts

North Texas ran even more quarterbacks into its game against SMU on Saturday at Apogee Stadium than it did in its season opener against Texas last week.

Those backups just didn’t get in until Josh Greer seemingly tightened his grip on the starting job in his second outing with the Mean Green.

The sophomore wasn’t asked to do a whole lot in UNT’s 43-6 win over the Mustangs, but took advantage of his opportunities and looked comfortable.

Greer finished 9-for-12 for 86 yards in a performance that was a dramatic turn from just a week ago. The Navarro College transfer went 2-for-11 for eight yards with

two interceptions in a loss to Texas and was pulled in favor of backup Andrew McNulty.

UNT coach Dan McCarney opened up the quarterback spot for competition in practice following that game, before settling on starting Greer again against SMU.
