Is it time to rethink the paycheck games?

Easy to spend someone else's money isn't it Yes, the Texas Twins both pay the maximum but that is far from the norm. It is mostly the G5 schools that depend on student fees as their largest source of income. By the way where do you think those extra millions the School has to kick in every year to balance the athletic budget comes from? It is not from the state or donations, it is from students tuition and fees; so I am not sure many schools' students pay more than NT students for athletics.

I am not against NT raising the dedicated athletic fee to the maximum, but I have a big issue with complaining fans who don't contribute or spend near that amount in support of the team advocating that students contribute more.

Well, you are just plain wrong. UTSA, a member of our is conference, has double the athletic fee we do. I believe UTEP does, also.

Students should know what they are getting when they enroll. If they want to go to a university that doesn't support athletics, there are plenty of them out there. No one is twisting their arm. That is why the fee was delayed 4 years, so students would have a choice .

I am so sick of seeing so called supporters of athletics post against raising the fee when members of our conference have double what we have, and it is PERMANENT and TIED TO NOTHING. It the same small time thinking that has allowed miserable coaches to hang out for 4 years when they should have been gone after one or two. It's the same type of thinking that allows a certain AD to have complete job security after the Dodge and Benford hires. You claim to support athletics but don't even want to take the most basic steps to allow us to be competitive in our own conference. I honestly think you would be happier if we were playing FCS football.

We talk about culture problems. Those problems also exist inside our own fan base and your post is a prime example.

And if you think I don't contribute to this program, you are sadly mistaken. The sad thing is, I would actually contribute more if I felt the administration was doing everything they could to make athletics as successful as the other programs at UNT.

Do you ever bother to read what you are responding to? I just stated the Texas Twins have maximum athletic fees. Also you seem to gloss over the fact that students end up paying much more than the stated athletics fees to support athletics. Also I addressed the fact that our Administration allowed the current athletic fee to be tied to construction. The fee was delayed because it was tied to construction of the stadium not to give anyone choice in anything.

I'm not sure what you are citing as small minded and then tie it into coaching decisions. I don't claim to support anything that would be you.

Someday maybe I'll be a good fan like you and rant about everything and have all the answers. Hey actually I can, here my list as a good fan of the program.

1. Lets raise fees for students to the max, hell lets go over the state max and dare the state to do something about it. NT has a good record of taking more from the state than is due.

2. Lets fire RV and staff; and then his successor if he ever makes a bad hire.

3. Schedule all home football games and limited opponents to only three plays to make 10 yards.,

4. Mandate all living alums buy season tickets.

5. And foremost, assume that anybody that does not agree with my approach is the problem for NT athletics.

Ya, you are right, I didn't read your entire post. My apologies.

But you say it is generally only G5s that have this fee. Well, we are a G5. Incoming students (mostly their parents) should recognize that and decide whether they want to pay the fee before enrolling and then griping about it. They also should realize the fee can and should be raised.

That said, the students didn't tie the fee to the stadium, the legislature did. I honestly don't know what Dallas Lee does to earn his money, other than being friends with Rick Perry. But in this day and age, I guess that's all you need.

There are those on here who don't think the fee should be raised. I'll just redirect the previous post to them.

As far behind as we have fallen, we should be doing everything we can to right the ship, much as we should if our business school had fallen behind the curve, or our accounting school, or Lord forbid, the school of music. Maybe even more so, since it is mainly athletics that keeps alumni connected and gives them a sense of pride about their school. By continuing to refuse to raise the fee, it just reinforces alumni perception about UNT and athletics.

I've got no problem with money games with the following exceptions.

1. UT is an ass whipping. Crappy officiating, having to deal with their network, etc... I am just tired of them and my hatred towards them grows every time we play them.

2. Not the first game of the year!

3. We get top dollar or no game.

Add OU and LSU to the "is an asswhipping" list.

Beyond that, many of you long complaining toothbutts are an asswhipping as well. I'm not T. Boone Pickens yet, so I can't give the athletic department $125 million. Neither can any of you.

So, just shut it. It's the same claptrap every year.

The ship of dominating football sailed decades ago. Embrace it and set your sights on more realistic goals than beating huge state schools coached by the likes of Charlie Strong.

Because of the conference we are in, we will compete for the C-USun Belt title and go to another bowl game. Even then, you'll still be complaining. Complain to your imaginary best friends from here on out, though, because, sheesh...it's gotten really old.

You know what else has gotten old? 5 game home seasons at Apogee, yet there is another on the way next year. Hopefully we buy an FCS game for our only OOC home game. Again. For the 2nd time in 4 years in our new stadium that we were told would help improve scheduling.

You ok with that?

I'll keep posting about it until it changes. Read it. Don't read it. I really don't care.

Now, please get back to your porn viewing with a cut out of RV's face pasted over your favorite porn actress/actor's face... ;-)

We only have 5 on the schedule for next year? How do we know that? I missed it. That would really suck. I already had a hard time convincing folks to buy season tickets with nickels state, fow, and fios...not that south mrs. and los angelos tech helped....

We currently only have FOUR home games scheduled for next year. We will have to scramble late to find a 5th. And it will probably have to be a bought FCS.

RV mentioned ongoing negotiations with Tulsa. Who do you think holds the upper hand in those negotiations? And there are scheduling flexibility issues with adding another home and home series, but that has been discussed ad nauseam. And, yes, we are capped at 5 home games next year (at Tennessee, at Iowa, at SMU). Expect SMU to be sold as an alternate sight home game. TFLF is already trumpeting that cause.

Here is a link to future schedules if you like disappointment:

Holy sh!t! We've got a lot of ground to make up in one year...really one week, but we usually give 'em a year.
