UNT finances could be better than expected

DALLAS — The University of North Texas might not be in as big a financial hole as officials thought in April, financial consultants told a group of UNT System regents Tuesday.

A few months ago, it looked like UNT would need to shave $23.2 million from anticipated revenues in its 2013 and 2014 financial statements.

Now, Blake Rodgers, an audit senior manager with consulting firm Deloitte and Touche, estimates the number will be closer to $13.5 million.

This means UNT has less ground to make up in future budgets than it thought earlier this year.

UNT hired Deloitte and Touche in February to help straighten out its finances and financial practices after discovering accounting problems dating back to 2004.

Rodgers said the earlier revenue estimate was off by $10 million because there was little supporting documentation of the financial problems.

This is great news--now the athletic department shouldn't have to lose any funding for the upcoming year...

      Doesn't seem new, but unlimited transfers

      I can't blame them, the system in place allows them to profit and to move freely. We may not like it, but it's the system. I'm hoping schools taking over the collectives, it's already happening for reasons I stated above, will usher in contracts and buy outs for players. We've opened Pandora's box so we aren't going back to amateur sports, the best we can get out of it is payment on our investments.

      Agree, there was some semblance of programs doing the right thing and following the rules even though they were always getting busted for violations, and everyone knew cheating was going on. It's why I was saying the veil is off now, and making everyone play by those rules has supercharged the whole thing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the schools aren't supposed to work with NIL collectives to get players right? But everyone including UNT is 100% working with these collectives to send out deals to players. Same kind of fake rule following like we used to have, just more of it now.

      Doesn't seem new, but unlimited transfers

      I’m not the type who’s going to say, “I’m done with college sports” and that be it. I’m moreso the guy whose interest is just going to wane to the point that I don’t watch anymore. It would actually free up a lot of time that I could be more productive🤣🤣
